Advent Prayer O God, As light comes from this candle, May the blessing of Jesus Christ come to us, Warming our hearts and brightening our way. May Christ our Saviour bring life into darkness of this world, and to us, as we wait for His coming. Amen Principal’s Message This year Advent began on Sunday, November 29, 2015. As Catholics we recognize that this is a period of simple living and extra prayer. We acknowledge it as a time to prepare for a new coming of Jesus, our Saviour. The word “advent”, derived from the Latin, “adventus” means “coming, a time when we remember Jesus’ first coming, and prepare our hearts for a new coming. We know, too, Jesus is a loving and peaceful Saviour. He asks his followers to make the whole world loving and peaceful. During Advent, we prepare our homes and our lives for Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Advent is also a time to re-evaluate our priorities; to “wake up” and to walk with God. It is also a time for active service towards those who are not only poor in body, but poor in spirit. Humanity seeks joy and goodness for all. During this season of hope, peace and joy, how do you see yourself bringing joy to others? On behalf of the entire staff of Christ the King School, I would like to humbly thank you for your continued support of Catholic education and wish you all blessings for a Christmas filled with hope, peace and joy. A. Lang Advent Celebrations You are cordially invited to: Christ the King Advent Mass Thursday, December 17th at 9:30 a.m. Come Celebrate Advent with Us! DECEMBER VIRTUE - HOPE JANUARY VIRTUE ~ SELF-CONTROL This month we will celebrate the Virtue of Self-control. This month we will celebrate the Virtue of Hope. We believe that God comes to us as a real human who can show us the way of life. We understand that both the world and its people are from God and so are essentially good. Furthermore, God has given us this Advent season year after year in order to focus our minds and our hearts on the good all around us. Year after year, we are reminded that God chose to send His Son to us because we are worth it. God knows how great we can be when we all come together. People of Hope… Keep up a positive attitude Can bounce back from tough situations Set and stick to their goals See the good in others even when they make mistakes Work to include others CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER The chocolate fundraiser was a huge success. We raised $5100.00. Thank you once again for your continued support. The following are the winners of the Chocolate Fundraiser prizes. IPOD Natasha D. and Khalil R. Pizza Lunch Winners Primary— FDK Mrs. Pendergast’s class Junior—Gr. 5 Mr. Celeste’s class Intermediate—Gr. 7 Mrs. Shaw’s class Thank you to Mrs. Pinto, Mrs. Michisor and Mrs. Colaco for organizing the fundraiser God has given us the ability to choose. We are able to control how we react to what happens around us. We may feel pressure from inside or from outside ourselves to react violently to a situation. We've all “lost it” at one time or another. We are never proud of those moments. As soon as they happen we make a promise that they will not happen again. Through prayer and concentration, we can get better at controlling our reactions. We can get better at showing self-control. Self-control helps us to resist the temptation to do something that we will regret. Self control helps us to resist the temptation to something that will harm ourselves or others. Self-control is one of the marks of a spiritually mature person. When we all use self-control, we can be sure that our school will be a safe, caring and inclusive place to live and to learn. A person with self-control… Is patient Knows how to wait his/her turn Can calm him/herself down and think before reacting to situations Knows how to avoid physical aggression (hitting, kicking, pushing, fighting, etc.) Can think things through and do what is best for everyone Cram-A-Cruiser Christmas Food Drive Monday, December 7th - 11th In partnership with Peel Region Police, students at CTK will be donating non-perishable food items to the Eden Food for Change food bank that services many families in our community. Once all donations have been collected, our Youth Faith Ambassadors will join our Neighborhood Police Unit Officers in “cramming” their “cruisers” with the food items. Breakfast with Santa on December 10th Santa & Mrs. Claus are coming to CTK for a pancake breakfast. Santa will be taking pictures with students. Order forms and information have been sent home. All proceeds will be helping families in our community. Thank you to Mrs. Dupuy, Mrs. Lopes, Mrs. Pinto, Mrs. Michisor, Mrs. LoFranco, Mrs. Colaco, Mrs. Beechener, Mrs. Scialdone, Ms. Adkins, and the Grade 8 students for assisting with the breakfast. Cold Weather and Illness In colder weather we often receive requests to allow students to remain indoors when students have a cold, flu etc.. Please note that we cannot comply, as we have neither the facilities or the staff to supervise these students. Please use discretion in keeping your child at home to recover if they are ill. A child who is wheezing, coughing… is not in a state to learn and will infect others. If your child is well enough to attend school, they should be well enough to go outside at recess. Clothing in Cold Weather Thank you to the CTK Eco-Team for the Eco-launch on November 18th Eco-Source presentations took place on November 12th and 13th. All students were involved in the school waste reduction workshops. Thank you to Mrs. Gizzi and Miss DaRosa for organizing this event. Remembrance Day Every year for the last 15 years, Mr. Masson, retired teacher from C.T.K. has transformed our school into a living Remembrance Day tribute. With a personal collection of over a thousand authentic World War I and World War II artifacts on display, students were encouraged to see, touch and explore numerous items of the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives, so that we can enjoy the freedom we have today. World War I and II era music plays in the background as students try on uniforms and hold disabled weapons and briefly enter into the lives of the soldiers who took part in these wars. Mr. Masson and current Grade 5 teacher, Mr. Celeste also organized the Remembrance Day ceremony, which was celebrated in the school gym at 11am on November 11th. The staff and community of C.T.K would like to thank Mr. Masson for all his hard work in setting up the fabulous Remembrance Day Exhibits and helping us to understand and appreciate the sacrifices of so many. Children will go outside for recess and lunch hour, weather permitting. On extremely cold days we limit the amount of time students spend outdoors. During morning announcements, we remind students to wear all winter clothes. Children should come to school with boots, winter coats, scarves, hats and mittens. As well, in order to keep their workplace clean, please ensure your child has a pair of “hardsoled indoor” shoes, slippers are not recommended due to possibility of immediate evacuation . It will reduce the amount of dirt and mud brought indoors. This will also assist our custodial staff in keeping our school clean. Thanks for your continued cooperation. Peel Regional Police Community Partnership Welcome Constable Markowski and Constable Goirill as our neighborhood community officers through the Region of Peel. They will be stopping by the school on a regular basis and visiting classrooms to speak with students about their role as Police Officers. We would also like to welcome Constable Moore, who will be sharing all the Grade 6 Peel Regional Police Education.
