MR. KALAPARAMBATH’S GRADE 3 1 Mr. Kalaparambath’s Grade 3 September 2015 WELCOME BACK NEWS The Grade 3 Classroom Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to the start of an exciting new school year. Over the course of the year we will have many opportunities to celebrate special events and activities that will help us grow both mentally and spiritually. I hope to build a strong sense of sharing and caring for one another, as we learn the importance of community and how to solve problems in a positive and constructive way. Academically, we will explore nature, the environment, and our community, as well as discover math, science, social studies, reading and writing, and so much more! Students will have daily opportunity to read and write, work in small and large groups, and share their personal thoughts, and opinions. By working together we will all enjoy a wonderful fun-filled and enriching year. During the year you will receive newsletters and calendars. These will allow you to keep track of monthly activities and events, as well as let you know about upcoming PA days, events, and other important information. I encourage you to reference these frequently during the course of the year. If you need to contact me, please feel free to connect whenever you have questions, suggestions, or any concerns regarding your son/daughter’s educational program or progress. If you wish to arrange a meeting, please send a note via your child’s agenda or the home communication folder, or contact me at the school. I will make every effort to respond to your calls and correspond as quickly as my teaching schedule allows. Since timely and candid contact between home and school is helpful in assuring a child’s educational success, I look forward to communicating with you throughout the school year. Students will be writing EQAO later in the school year. (May/June) Students have been preparing since they were in Grade 1 and will continue to prepare throughout this year. Students and parents will be kept informated and will be provided opportunities in the new year to dwell more into the understadning of what is EQAO? St. James is in its authorization year and will be continuing with the great success of the IB program and inquiry. We thank you for your continued partnership to achieve this great accomplishment!! MR. KALAPARAMBATH’S GRADE 3 | Issue # 2 Classroom Procedures School begins at 9:00am and ends at 3:30pm. All students are expected to be standing in their class line at 9:00am sharp. We always line up in the same location, even after recess. This practice will be reviewed with your child. Late arrivals in the morning or afternoon must report to the office. Students will be dismissed through these same doors at 3:30pm. If pick-up plans for your child change for the day, please write me a note so I can ensure your child gets home safely. If your child will be away for the day, a parent or guardian must call the school to report the absences. Agendas: are used on a daily basis in the classroom. Your child will write down any home study and/or upcoming events. The agenda also acts as a source of communication between us. Please check and initial the agenda nightly and ensure it is returned to school every day. I check agendas every morning for messages. Indoor Shoes: Students are expected to have a pair of nonmarking shoes for the classroom. These shoes should be closed toe shoes and easy for your child to put on independently. These indoor shoes will be left at school. If they are a pair of running shoes, students may use them for physed indoors, as long as they have non-marking soles. Snacks and Lunches: Students will be given two snack times during the day; once in the morning, and once after lunch. Please send healthy snacks with your child (ie. fruit, cheese and crackers, yogurt, vegetables). Please do not send snacks with peanuts, nuts and/or other nut products, and please check if they contain traces of these items. Lunch will take place at 12:00pm. Students will continue to participate in an eco-school friendly environment with “LOL” Lights out Lunch Hour and Litterless Lunches whenever possible. Inquiry in the Classroom Students will continue their journey through inquiry and the IB classroom. This upcoming school year will be full of exciting new topics that we will explore and discover together. Parents you will continue to be our partners through this exploration. You will soon start to see all forms of inquiry tickets, problem solving tasks, topics of investigation and even invitations to join us with your own expertise to further enrich their learning. Our first themes will be WHO WE ARE: An inquiry into nature of the self; beliefs and values, personal physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.
