Jan M. Torres, MS, SLP-CCC is the Program Director at The Rehabilitation Center of Thibodaux
Regional Medical Center.
Kristyl Vicknair, LDN, RD is the Marketing Liaison, Home Health of Thibodaux Regional Medical
Center.
The goal of this educational activity is to identify current challenges associated with communication among
health care providers and to provide an understanding of the importance of excellent communication
among health care providers in promoting safe optimum patient outcomes across the health care spectrum. Upon completion of this activity the learner will be able to understand the contribution of good
communication to safe patient care, concisely summarize a concern about a patient, actively listen to
information communicated by other healthcare providers, assertively and professionally communicate
concerns about a patient that are not being adequately addressed and to initiate multi-disciplinary professional collaboration from various health care providers. The target audience is RN’s and other Healthcare
Providers.

acute care and family practice.
Andrew Gustavson, MD, is a neurologist at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.
The goal of this educational activity is to focus on the latest developments in neurological care. Upon
completion of this activity the learner will be able to evaluate recent advances in the diagnosis, treatment,
prevention and rehabilitation of neurological injury and demonstrate enhanced nursing knowledge of
the updates in neurological emergencies and national guidelines for TBI, stroke and seizures. The target
audience is RN’s.

Louisiana Public Health Institute.
Amanda S. Eymard, DNS, APRN, CNE, PMHNP-BC is an Associate Professor of Nursing
at Nicholls State University where she teaches Nursing Research in the BSN Program and she is
also faculty in the MSN Program.
Dottie Landry, MSN, RN is the Clinical Research Coordinator in the Research Department at
Ochsner- Chabert Campus and an Online Instructor teaching Nursing Research at LSUA in the
RN-BSN Program.
Linda Manfrin-Ledet, DNS, APRN, PMHCNS-BC is a Professor of Nursing at Nicholls State
University where she teaches Nursing Research in the BSN Program and she is also faculty in the
MSN Program.
The goal of this educational activity is to enhance knowledge and ability needed to participate in the research and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) processes and to discuss opportunities for research and the application and dissemination of EBP. Upon completion of this activity the learner will be able to state the importance of clinical practice through research and dissemination, explain what every Principal Investigator
needs to know, distinguish between non-experimental and experimental research designs to promote EBP,
describe theoretical and research methodological approaches, understand research ethics, identify how to
use survey design to answer nursing research questions, explain sampling and sample size considerations,
describe how to do a literature review, propose innovative strategies to use nursing science to influence
EBP, examine approaches to promote translation of research findings, state how to organize and word the
findings section of your research report, discuss ways on how to get your research findings published in
nursing journals and how to use community engagement through research. The target audience is RN’s.

Ochsner- Chabert Campus where she is a Certified Diabetes Educator and a Certified Insulin
Pump Trainer.
Seth Kunen, PhD is a clinical psychologist with 20 plus years in the Baton Rouge, LA area. He
specializes in depression, anxiety, dissociative disorders, and mood disorders with a focus on
developmental psychology.
Part I: The goal of this educational activity is to guide school nurses in their understanding of diabetes
and its management and enhance the opportunity to assure the coordination of diabetes care in school.
Upon completion of this learning activity the learner will be able to identify new and/or updated resources
and references concerning school aged children with diabetes, develop and implement written plans of
care for the student with diabetes, understand the role of diet and exercise when caring for the school
aged child with diabetes, describe how to efficiently utilize the insulin pump, and discuss the U.S. federal
and state laws/regulations and policy change that support and protect students with diabetes in school.
Part II: The goal of this educational activity is to guide school nurses in the assessment process of children
with psychological disorders and enhance their knowledge on medication administration in the school
setting. Upon completion of this learning activity the learner will be able to recognize signs and symptoms
of psychological disorders, understand when to seek referral, describe the medication regimen prescribed
and develop and implement written plans of care for the student with a psychological disorder. The target
audience is nurses who work in the school setting.

The goal of this educational activity is to provide comprehensive drug updates to nurses that will include a
review of new drugs, drug changes and FDA alerts. Upon completion of this learning activity the learner
will be able to discuss the new drugs with respect to their pharmacology and pharmacokinetics, state approved and unapproved indications, describe their adverse effects and drug interactions that may affect
patient compliance, identify recent FDA drug communications, compare efficacy, dosage and cost to existing agent, discuss the patient outcomes, compare pharmacotherapy outcomes vs cost/benefit between
newly approved agents and existing or lower cost agents, and examine the interaction of over-the-counter
drugs with medications. The target audience is RN’s and Advanced Practice Nurses (NP’s).

to examine new knowledge and skills in public health, including communicable disease response
and environmental health and safety, understand the current policy related to federal and state
budget, explore the role of public health in developing strategies, collaboration and
approaches to the implementation of community health priorities, discuss the
importance of healthy restaurants and food preparation on health, examine the impact of obesity,
nutrition, physical activity, genetics, and metabolism has on subclinical disease, clinical
disease, healthy populations, and global health, describe advances in measuring diet and physical
activity, and identify behavioral strategies to promote and sustain lifestyle modifications, identify
mobile tools and technologies that may facilitate patient engagement and behavioral change and
provide patient-centered interventions toward improving health. The target audience is RN’s.
