2. Enrollment Priorities Update
Mary discussed AP 5055 updated draft located on the website. This is part of the student success
initiative. The AP outlines the priority registration requirements. Priority group 1 contains groups that are
federal mandates and cannot be changed. Priority 2 are: Trio, student athletes and DSPS note takers.
Priority 3 are continuing students that have not lost their priority registration, first time students who
have registered and completed an Ed plan. Not everyone enrolled in Priority 1 and 2 groups are eligible
for priority registration. Students must complete orientation, assessment and complete and ed plan.
Students must also maintain good standing in their priority group to continue to be eligible for priority
registration. These new regulations apply to new students who have registered in Fall 2015. Any students
registered before Fall 2015 are grandfathered in. The student must meet specific categorical program
requirements and be in good standing in that program.
There was a processed developed in Student Affairs Council in May 2014. A rubric was created on the
process of obtaining a new priority registration group. Mary will be developing a form for use in
submitting a request for a new priority registration. The application form will be brought to Student
Affairs Council for review and approval. Students who have an associate’s degree are exempt from all
three criteria to meet priority registration. A student will lose their priority registration status if the
student has been placed on academic or progress probation for two terms. Any course that contains over
60 units are considered high unit majors. Students who are over the high unit limit will lose their priority
registration status. Students will be given a 30 day notice if they will be losing a priority registration. They
will also receive a 30 day notice if students are reaching the 100unit limit and may be losing their priority
registration. Students can appeal a loss accidents illness or incidents beyond the students. Foster Youth
are the only group exempt from all the criteria. The policy will be brought to shared governance for
review.
Mary reviewed the grid pertaining to Enrollment Priorities located on the website. The grid outlines
notification and appeal dates.
The priority registration committee meets every two weeks. Their goal is developing procedures in terms
of rules and guidelines.
3. “Ask Hartnell”
Romero Jalomo
Romero displayed the Foothill College main page to inform the council regarding the software by
Intellisource. There is a section at the bottom that reads “Ask Foothill”, the link is in both English and
Spanish. Students are able to type in a question and receive an answer at the click of a button. If there is
not an answer available, students are given suggestions to questions or answers. There is also a top 10
list of frequently asked questions where students can click on individual questions. There are pre-defined
questions with pre-defined answers. The company Intellisource will construct the question area on our
website. For an extra fee, the analytics can be obtained and will inform the college on which questions
were asked and how many times the questions were asked to narrow down the top questions asked by
students. Mary stated she was informed that the “Ask Foothill” section has significantly reduced phone
calls to the college. Foothill will share their database of questions with Hartnell.
