Email sent to Region IV Financial Aid Directors Regarding Consortium Agreements 5-20-14 QUESTION ASKED TO ALL COLLEGES: Good morning everyone! I've been asked to do a quick survey about how many of you are still honoring consortium agreements between colleges? If you are, approximately how many do you process each semester? Are they attending other CC's? or a CSU? What impacts does this have your staff time monitoring this process? Do you have any specific requirements such as the course must be on the student's ed plan? thec course hasn't been offered at your college in the last year? etc. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you! Andi Schreibman 10:00 AM (12 hours ago) to me at Las Positas COllege we do not utilize consortiums. We will sign off on another college's consortium, but will not provide our own. Livermore, CA 94551 (925) 424-1585 Veronica Martinez 10:27 AM (11 hours ago) Hi Mary, We don’t do consortium agreements anymore (it’s been about 3 years) for few reasons: *Students don’t submit official transcripts to verify completion of course. *If they don’t return transcripts, we were reversing payment & billing them (if we paid Pell) *Balances were creating institutional liability *Oftentimes, students weren’t successful with concurrent enrollment in 2 schools. Hope this helps. Additional Information: We were getting requests willy-nilly (sorry for the technical term) and students were very demanding and wanted them completed immediately. If you do them, make sure that students understand there is a staff time & resources commitment and that it is not solely a matter of “signing off.” Also, read each individual college/university’s contract to determine if you are agreeing to some or substantial continued leg work on behalf of the student and the FA school. Some contracts require you monitor and provide updates on a regular basis to the home school – I wouldn’t sign off on a contract with that wording. Subject: Quick Survey Good morning everyone! I've been asked to do a quick survey about how many of you are still honoring consortium agreements between colleges?[RG Adds] The only consortium agreements we allow are between universities that have articulation agreements with us to provide a bachelor’s degree here at Mission from them. For example, we currently have Menlo College, Notre Dame de Namur, and (can’t remember the name) which does Child Development baccalaureates. If you are, approximately how many do you process each semester?[RG Adds] minimal ~ about 6 Are they attending other CC's? or a CSU?[RG Adds] no, just our articulated colleges/universities What impacts does this have your staff time monitoring this process?[RG Adds] Not much any longer as we are never the host school giving the financial aid and we also do not allow the wording of the consortium requirement to include any demands on my financial aid staff. Do you have any specific requirements such as the course must be on the student's ed plan? thec course hasn't been offered at your college in the last year? etc.[RG Adds] No. Rita Grogan Registrar and Director of Student Enrollment & Financial Services Mission College (408) 855 - 5072 direct Francisco Tostado (MPC) 4:31 PM (5 hours ago) Mary, We have about 15 consortium agreements. We have them with CSU, and CC’s. My staff has been trying to get away from consortiums. There is follow up needed. We must get transcripts at the end of the semester. Some students get upset because we are not releasing the funds until we have verified their SAP standards for the prior term and evaluated by our A&R office. Staff time is about 1 week for the year. Usually, is at the beginning of each semester. Have a nice day.
