 COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course introduces the mathematical concept of the function by extending students’ experiences
with linear and quadratic relations. Students will investigate properties of discrete and continuous
functions, including trigonometric and exponential functions; represent functions numerically,
algebraically, and graphically; solve problems involving applications of functions; investigate inverse
functions; and develop facility in determining equivalent algebraic expressions. Students will reason
mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems.

 CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
Students are expected to attend class, to do their homework regularly, to come to class on time with
all necessary materials, to wear the proper uniform, and to adhere to the school’s accepted code of
behaviour.
PLEASE NOTE …
NO food or drinks are allowed in the classroom; NO technological devices (cell
phones (as a phone or as a calculator), Ipods, PSPs, walkmans, programmable
calculators etc.) are allowed in the classroom.
 MISSED MATERIAL:
It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to make up material missed due to an illness or a school
related absence. This may be accomplished by contacting a classmate, picking up missed notes,
attempting the homework and then, pursuing extra help.
Extra help is available by appointment with your teacher!
 TEXTBOOK POLICY:
There is a $100 replacement fee for a lost or damaged resource book.
 TEST/QUIZ POLICY:
Students are expected to be present for ALL math tests.
1. If a student knows in advance that he/she will be away for a test, he/she must approach the
teacher with the valid reason at least two days PRIOR to the test date and make alternate
arrangements.
2. If a student is absent on the day of the test, a phone call from a parent/guardian MUST be
made to the school before noon on the test day. Then, it is the responsibility of the student to
make arrangements with the teacher to make up the test. If no arrangements are made, a
mark of zero will be assigned and the parents will be contacted.
Note:
NO test marks will be dropped and NO rewrites will be permitted.
I have read and understood the above course description.
