With Thanks…
We hope that our St. Herbert
community enjoyed a restful Easter
weekend with their families and friends.
It is our wish that the hope generated
by the Resurrection of Our Lord and the
spring season, brings everyone
happiness and a renewal of the Spirit
for the remainder of the year. A special
thank you to all who attended our
school Lenten Mass and our Virtue of
Kindness Assembly. As always we thank
Father Joseph for celebrating mass with
our community. We would also like to
extend a sincere thank you, as well, to
all families who supported Sharelife and
our ongoing events.

Catholic Education Week
Jubilee Year of Mercy officially proclaimed by
Pope Francis, began on December 8, 2015 when
the Holy Doors were opened at St. Peter’s Basilica
in Rome.
“The Motto, Merciful Like the Father, serves as
invitation to follow the merciful example of the
Father who asks us not to judge or condemn but
to forgive and to give love and forgiveness
without measure.” Pope Francis
God of Love and compassion,
Help us to open the door of mercy in our school
communities, in our families and in the world.
Let mercy guide our living and bring us closer to
the heart of the Gospel.
May we live as Jesus with mercy that welcomes,
loves, forgives and calls us to live the gospel
joyfully. Amen.
Our school community will celebrate Catholic
Education Week May 1-6, 2016 in ways that are
appropriate to our students’ age. We invite you
to participate these activities as your personal
time and work schedule may permit. Schedule
of events to follow.

Congratulations to our students who completed
their First Reconciliation and will be preparing for
their First Holy Communion in April. Our Grade 7
and 8 students continue to prepare for their
Confirmation. Confession dates for our Grade 7
and 8 students will be April 23rd and April 30th
respectively. Confirmation for our Grade 7
students will take place on April 27th and May 3rd
for our Grade 8s at St. Joseph Church. We thank
Father Joseph and Marc Andre and their parish
team for their continued support.
Our next meeting will take place on May 26, 2016.
The meeting will take place in the staff room at 7:00
p.m. All are welcome to attend. Volunteer and Help
Make A Difference! For example, the School
Council’s fundraising efforts have made it possible
to provide agendas to our students free of charge.
Making regular use of agendas are an important life
skill for our students to acquire.
Youth Faith Ambassador Rally
We are extremely proud of our students who
volunteer their time to be Youth Faith Ambassadors.
Their service to the faith community here at the
school is invaluable. Our Ambassadors are involved
in school prayer liturgies, community outreach and
so much more! Each school year, they are invited to
attend a Youth Faith Ambassador Rally where they
get an opportunity to listen to motivational
speakers and watch inspirational presentations.
This year’s Rally took place on March 9th at the John
Paul II Cultural Centre.
Our Youth Faith
Ambassadors this year are; Claudia D., Monique C.,
Rachel D., Carol I., Merit S., Allanis P., Tianna R.,
Jalen R., Reanna M., Denize D., Jenna J., Daniel A.,
Sandra L., Liam S., and Stephanie A.. We would like
to thank Mrs. Cristobal for making this valuable
school group possible.
The grade 3 and 6
students at St. Herbert
continue to prepare
for
the
EQAO
assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
Testing will take place the weeks of May 25th to June
8th. The results of these tests will be received in the
Fall of 2016. How to prepare your child for the test?
It is important that you take the time to talk to your
child and help reduce the anxiety related to any type
of testing situation. You should also be sure that
your child has enough sleep, eats a nutritious
breakfast and is well hydrated. It is important that
students in grade 3 or 6, be in full attendance during
the assessment.
Pizza Lunch Days
Thank you for supporting our Pizza Days. We thank
all the families that have use and plan to continue to
use the pre-payment order forms. As we approach
the end of the year, we are looking for volunteers to
help distribute pizza on our Pizza Days next year.
Please feel free to visit the school on Wednesday
mornings at 11 a.m. to see how it works.
School Organization for September 2016
The staff of St. Herbert School will be meeting in
May to discuss class placements for September
2016. When determining placement, some of the
criteria we consider are: academic ability, learning
skills, social factors and placement history. Since
you know your child best, we appreciate your input
concerning any special needs your child(ren) may
have. We request that you submit in writing, by
April 30th, your child’s strengths, needs and a
description of their learning style, including the type
of learning environment that would provide your
child with the most success. Please do not make
requests for a specific teacher as teaching
assignments may change between now and
September. When staff meets they will take into
consideration the overall needs of the students in
relation to the make-up of the class. They will also
take into consideration any parental input received.
Milk Bag Mat Club
Our Milk Bag Mat Club members would like to thank
everyone for their milk bag contributions. Please
continue to send your milk bags to the school
instead of your recycling bins. Mrs. Rampersad and
her club student members have created 8 milk bag
mats so far this year and will continue this
worthwhile social justice initiative next year.
