the social, cultural, and economic vitality of our region and the global community.

academic goals in an environment committed to student learning, achievement and success.
ACTION ITEMS
1. Consider Approval of Minutes – October 19, 2015
Rebecca Fields
Motioned (Marble), Seconded (McDonnell), unanimously approved.
INFORMATION/DISCUSSION/PRESENTATIONS
1. Mid-Term Report
Lori Kildal
Dr. Kildal invited the Team Leaders to update the Council. Dean Mendelsohn shared her
progress, and explained that her report is separate from the main document. This was
for ease of writing due to the large number of updates in her area of responsibility
(Recommendations 4, 5, and 6, and corresponding planning agendas). She welcomed
feedback from the members. Dean Mendelsohn will be working with members Dr.
Wright, Dr. Fields, and Ms. Hatch. She will also be incorporating feedback from Dr. Mark
Sanchez, Faculty Jason Hough and Cheryl O’Donnell, and Peggy Mayfield and Librarians.
Dr. Lofman shared that he assembles all his evidence before he begins writing the
narrative for Recommendations 2, 3, and 9, as well as planning agendas. The only
problem with this method is that members are not able to view his progress. There are
certain pieces of evidence that he has gathered, but most of his evidence is pending.
Currently, his team is in the middle of the Strategic Plan so he doesn’t have details to
report at this time. However, his team has high percentages for Program Planning and
Assessment. Council member, Dr. Atallah, has met with and reviewed evidence with Dr.
Lofman. He looks forward to hearing from Ms. Carrasco.
AVP Pyer reported on her progress with Recommendation 7; she did not have planning
agendas associated with this recommendation. She was pleased to report that they have
fully resolved the issues. With regards to evaluations, Hartnell had evaluations for all
employee groups except adjuncts. They have incorporated this employee group, and
she anticipates the percentage completed to be 95 - 100%. One of the problems they
have encountered with adjunct evaluations is that they are generally completed in the
spring. Therefore, they may not have accurate figures until January or February 2016.
AVP Pyer is working with Ms. Kimbrough, and receives data from Ms. Marble.
Dr. Kildal reported that she is responsible for four planning agendas regarding
curriculum. Dr. Pinet will be reviewing and providing feedback. We reported out 12
transfer degrees last year; we now have 18 transfer degrees. Dr. Kildal is obtaining the
Curriculum Committee minutes and Governing Board of Trustees minutes for her
evidence. She was pleased to report that her planning agendas are completed.

HARTNELL COLLEGE VISION STATEMENT
Hartnell College will be nationally recognized for the success of our students by developing leaders who will contribute to
the social, cultural, and economic vitality of our region and the global community.
HARTNELL COLLEGE MISSION STATEMENT
Focusing on the needs of the Salinas Valley, Hartnell College provides educational opportunities for students to reach
academic goals in an environment committed to student learning, achievement and success.
Team Leads unavailable to report today are: Superintendent/President, Dr. Willard
Lewallen, VP Marty Parsons, and VP Dave Phillips. Dr. Kildal will remind the Team Lead’s
that narratives and evidence are due December 11th. Academic Senate is the only
constituent group that replied to her inquiry of preferred draft review date. However, all
constituency groups will receive the document on December 14th. She acknowledged
that there will be miscellaneous items that we will add in for the final report.
ACTION
Dr. Kildal will follow up with Team Leads, and make sure that the constituent groups
receive the first draft on December 14th. Final reports are due from the Leads by
December 11th so the editors can begin their work.
2. Accreditation Game
Celine Pinet/
Flor Blancas/
Monica Carrasco/
Jennifer Hatch
Ms. Blancas reported the sub-committee decided the best time for them to do an
accreditation event is the Festival of Trees. They will decorate a sandwich board with
accreditation questions in a Christmas tree format. It will be housed near the ASHC
Office, and will be advertised through the Director of Marketing and Communications.
This will be open to the campus community.
Dr. Pinet shared that she has not collected questions from other members, but has
started a folder with questions.
ACTION
Dr. Pinet will work with Dina to send out questions to the campus community.
3. CHEA
Rebecca Fields
Dr. Fields shared the reports on the council’s website. The first report she reviewed was
shared by Dr. Lofman at the last meeting. CHEA reviewed the ACCJC on its six
recognition standards, and returned the matter for further discussion.
Dr. Fields reported that the second document has to do with renewal of the bill
introduced to have changes made. Dr. Kildal advised everyone to take a look at the
“Senate Committees Hold Hearings on Student Achievement and Student Success” on
page 2.

Dr. Jalomo shared that one of our requirements is providing “consumer information” to
our students. This information is posted on the Student Affairs website.
OTHER ITEMS/BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. Dr. Kildal shared that the administrators attended an event sponsored by the United
Way. There are thousands of community members in Monterey County interested in
improving the preparedness of students. Dr. Jalomo shared data on the percentages of
children from kindergarten to community college who are under-prepared for school.
There are a high percentage of students attending Hartnell, MPC, and CSUMB that are
required to take at least one basic skills class.
Dr. Kildal also shared that the United Way did a survey of high school juniors last year.
They asked these students if they plan to go on to college once they graduate. The
majority stated they want to achieve a master’s degree or PhD. The top degree
requested by students is Business. We need to take this information into consideration
when planning our classes.
2. 5th Annual Student Success Conference
Lori Kildal
Dr. Kildal asked everyone to mark their calendars for January 19 and 20, 2016. She will
have Dina send a “Save The Date” to everyone when we return from Thanksgiving
break. We have big plans with several trainings and guest speakers.
