Biography update 4/21/16
Our biography writing is coming along…..
“What a challenge” is an important page. Students will be able to identify challenges or struggles that
their subject may have faced. From those challenges or struggles students should be able to identify
attributes ( students have a list of those also) about their subject and express their own opinions about
them. We have been looking at different biographies and I have been modeling for them.
“Who Else Matters” is also an important page as students collect information from their reading about
the people in their subjects’ lives, and how they influenced the subject ( the person they are writing
about.)
“The Importance of a Quote” is a place to collect a quote or two and then infer what these words say
about the person, and how it shows their importance to the world. We found a website
BrainyQuote.com which seems to have quotes from just about anyone you might look up! Students
only need one for their biography paper.
We are setting aside the lined papers of lists and focusing on these three items. Students will bring
home a outline that is on blue paper for making an outline for the body of the biography writing.
In class we will be crafting our endings and beginnings for our biography writings.
I would like all students to have their blue outline filled out by Tuesday, April 26th. We will be working
on it in class, but some time at home may be needed. We will then use that to write or type the body of
the biography.
That is where we are and an update! Please discuss and talk with your child helping them to connect
the struggles and challenges with their subjects attributes, that will help greatly so they can get the blue
outline filled out with 3-4 events and the important supporting details so they can then use that for
writing the body.
