WARD 2 TRUSTEE We are very fortunate to be associated with trustees who welcome opportunities to serve you as elected representatives. Linda Zanella, (905) 840-2707 is your elected representative for Ward 2 in Brampton STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE As required by the Education Act and the Ministry of Education, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board annually provides parents with information about cost-effective student accident insurance coverage via student courier. Although enrollment is voluntary, the board encourages parents to take advantage of the inexpensive insurance coverage, especially if their child/children participate in sports, excursions/field trips, or, if parents do not have dental insurance coverage. Enrollment is required in writing so there are two options for enrollment: 1) Complete the traditional form and mail it in or 2) Photocopy the form and fax it to Reliable Life at 1-905-522-7211 or 1-800-463-KIDS (5437). Parents alone have the right to insure their children. ATTENDANCE AND STUDENT ABSENCE If your child will be late or absent from school, please contact the school at (905) 846-0802. If your child is absent and we are unaware of the reason, we will attempt to contact you or your emergency contact. We need your cooperation to make our attendance procedures work effectively. REORGANIZATION FOR 2006 We find that families are still registering new students. The number of students determines the number of staff and classes. Once our registrations stabilize, our staff numbers will be confirmed for us and we will confirm or change our classes. Until that time, all of our classes are tentative. This is not new. It happens annually in all schools. The movement in the community will determine the arrangements at the school. We will attempt to create as little disruption as possible. If any changes are required, you will be notified in writing and with a telephone call by the classroom teacher within the next two weeks. BUS DISCIPLINE Our bus drivers have a difficult and onerous job. They are charged with the responsibility of getting our children safely to and from school on a daily basis. There are rules for bus behaviour. Where students break, the rules the bus driver will notify the Principal via a "pink slip" which is a form for reporting misbehaviour. Upon receiving the first slip the student will meet with the Principal, the second, the Principal will notify parents, and the third, the student may receive a suspension of bus privileges for a period of time. TRANSPORTATION Transportation for Sacred Heart School will be provided in accordance with the policy set out by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel Board of Education. Students who have been eligible for transportation last year must reapply under the “Empty Seat Policy” for the school year 20062007. These forms will be made available upon request in September. No decisions about riding the bus will be made until the beginning of October. PARKING LOT/DRIVEWAY SAFETY For safety reasons, extreme caution is required in the school parking lot. Some safe practices include: • Please do not drive into the school parking lot at peak times when students are coming and going from the schoolyard. (Fifteen minutes before school starts and end times, including lunchtime). Instead, please park on the road and escort your child to and from the sidewalk during the following times: 8:30-8:45 a.m., 11:15-11:20 a.m., 12:30-12:45 p.m., 3:15-3:30 p.m. • Cars are not permitted to park in the bus lane at any time. This lane is only for school buses and emergency vehicles. • Please adhere to the one way driving in the parking lot. ANAPHYLACTIC ALLERGY - NEW POLICIES The Board has developed new procedures and policies as a result of Bill 3, passed in the Ontario Legislature and effective Jan. 1, 2006. The new procedures include maintaining an anaphylactic file for every student requiring an individual plan. There are some students in our school with a severe, life-threatening allergy to peanuts and nuts. This is a medical condition that causes severe reaction to certain allergens and can result in death within minutes. Although this may or may not affect your child’s class directly, we require your continued cooperation in sending foods to school with your child that are free from peanuts, nuts or their by-products. We cannot guarantee that any classroom is nut free, but we are attempting to minimize the exposure and keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible. Thank you for helping us to keep our school environment safe for everyone. • Never enter or exit the school against the flow of traffic. • Students are regularly reminded not to play at the front of the school, and to avoid walking through the middle of the parking lot when coming and going. Students should use the sidewalks to enter or leave school property. Thank you in advance for your continued support and co-operation. 26th ANNUAL TERRY FOX RUN... HOW FAR WILL YOU GO?
