D’Souza Pastor: Fr. John Nosan Reconciliation On March 10th at 1:00 we are very blessed to have Fr. John from St. Leonard Parish join us for a celebration of Reconciliation. During Lent is a perfect time for us to reflect on how we hurt our relationship with God each time we sin. We turn to Him through the Sacrament and ask for God’s healing and peace. Together as a community we will pray and journey through an examination of conscience. Following this Fr. John will hear private confessions and together we will experience the great joy in God forgiveness and mercy. March 2016 Newsletter Issue: 7 Passion Play On Thursday, March 24th, 2016, the Grades 7/8 students will reenact the Stations of the Cross. Through a series of reflections, the students invite us to reflect upon how these stations relate to our lives, now, in 2016. The school community is invited to watch this performance that will take place in the gymnasium at 1:00pm. Dance -the-Day-Away We are pleased to report that just over $400.00 was raised to support ShareLife at our dance. This came from donations to the dance, profits from our special Snack Shack and photos at our Photo Booth. Thank you to our Sacred Heart Community that generously supported this fundraiser. Easter Prayer Poetry Slam Lord, the resurrection of Your Son has given us new life and renewed hope. Congratulations to Sara and Taylor, our junior and intermediate Poetry Slam winners. They will represent Sacred Heart at the upcoming BNE Competition on March 2nd! A special thank you to Mrs. Dassios, who kindly represented the parent community and served on our panel of judges for the competition. Help us to live as new people in pursuit of the Christian ideal. The Great Gulp Event On Wednesday, March 23rd Sacred Heart will be participating in “The Great Gulp”. The Region of Peel is sponsoring this event to help create awareness about the importance of Peel drinking water in our lives and to promote action to improve water resources. Students are asked to please bring in a reusable water bottle that day. We will fill up our reusable water bottles and join a network of schools in Peel as they sip, drink and gulp in celebration of tap water! Thank you for your support. Grant us wisdom to know what we must do, the will to want to do it, the courage to undertake it, the perseverance to continue to do it, and the strength to complete it. Amen. Both teams competed in the Pod D mini tournament on February 11. The girls and the boys displayed great teamwork, awesome hustle, and terrific sportsmanship! The boys went 4 – 0, and had a thrilling game against St. Cecilia. At the half we trailed by a score of 6 – 1. In the second half the team gradually came back, but was still behind by a point with only a couple of seconds left on the clock when Adam M. made an excellent pass to Collin D. for the game winner! The boys played beautifully in the third game against St. Joachim, led by the amazing outside shooting of Jaiden C.M. In the championship game the Storm won again in a re-match versus St. Cecilia. In the afternoon our girls’ team took to the court, and they also had some extremely competitive games. The first game against St. Joachim was neck and neck until the very end, but the opposition was able to pull out a victory in the last few minutes. The Storm girls were victorious in our second contest, coming through with a tough win versus St. Cecilia. Our final game was against Lester B. Pearson, which was the number one team in the tournament. Our girls definitely held their own, only trailing by 2 points at the half, and coming closer to the eventual victors than any other team. In the end they were third in the tournament, and they should be proud of their tenacious play! Team members were: Kathleen B., Carissa B., Jackie P., Emily P., Sophia B., April M-H., Megan H., Leah C., Sara R., and Elissa H-M. Way to go Storm!! As a result of their win at the mini tournament the boys advanced to the BNE Family Finals on February 26. The boys gave it their all in four hard fought games, but unfortunately came out with a 1 and 3 record. The team played well and worked hard all the way to the buzzer in all of their games. The highlight of the tournament for Sacred Heart came in their comeback win against St. Leonard School. Adam B. scored the winning basket with two seconds on the clock to cement a 13 – 11 victory. Team members for the Storm were Jaiden C.M., Jamal R., Matthew M., Matthew B., Collin D., Eric H., Andrew A., Adam M., Adam B., and Roldan M. Mr. Blackmore, Mrs. Morton, Mrs. Altobelli, and Mrs. Callahan are extremely proud of the boys progress this season and also their never say die spirit!
