A RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN
Vice Principal

Each year, the Catholic community of
Ontario engages in a week-long
celebration of the unique identity and
distinctive contributions of Catholic
education during Catholic Education Week.
Head Secretary
J. Lonardi
This year’s celebration entitled, “Opening
Doors of Mercy” is scheduled for the week
of May 1-6, 2016. Catholic schools are
Catholic communities. Catholic schools
are faith communities. We all walk and
grow together in the faith which we
received at our Baptism. And it is the
“together” that we grow. Our growth is
primarily a relationship with God, who at
our Baptism, called us by name. But the
response of each of us to that growth is
both personal and communal. We grow in
our faith in the nurturing atmosphere of our
Catholic community be that of our local
parish, our home, or our Catholic school
community.
This year’s five sub-themes, one for each
of the five days of Catholic Education
Week, help students to understand the rich
meaning of this year’s theme:

students are encouraged to continue to look for the

Together we can STAND UP TO BULLYING!
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING
TRANSPORATION ELIBILITY FOR
STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN
GRADES 1, 4 AND 8
Eligiblity for transportation is determined based on
distance criteria established in Board policy. For
Dufferin-Peel C.D.S.B., these are:
JK – Grade 1 1.0 km
Grades 2 – 4 1.6 km
Grades 5 – 8 2.0 km
The purpose of this communication is to ensure
that parents of students currently in grade 1, grade
4 and grade 8 are aware that transportation
eligibility status for your child may change next year
as your child moves, respectively, to grades 2, 5
and 9. As the distance criteria for transportation in
grades 1, 4 and 8, may no longer be eligible for
transportation when they move to the next grade
level.
Effective June 1, transportation eligibility info for
2016-2017 will be available at www.stopr.ca.
Please visit the website after June 1, 2016 to
confirm the eligibility status for your child for the
2016-2017 school year.
ARE YOU MOVING?
To all Parents and Guardians, if
you plan to move before the
upcoming
school
year
(September 2016), please let the
school know by calling or visiting
the office. Your cooperation in
this matter is greatly appreciated as it will have an
impact on class placements for the next school
year.

competing with the other schools, showed great
sportsmanship and behaviour at the tournament.
The Junior team Tyra B, Ebin B, Stefano F,
Ethan L and Nosa O., won 3 out of 5 rounds, and
placed 5th out of 10 teams. Fantastic job junior
team!
Mrs. Kreuz and Mr. Longo would like to give a
special thank you to those chess team members
who came to every practice. Their enthusiasm and
dedication to chess made our chess practice a lot
of fun.
The Holy Cross team members consisted of
students who eagerly and regularly participated in
our Chess Club practices since October. Each
member contributed their own strengths and skills
to make this tournament a successful one for our
school.
Congratulations to the Chess Team on their

and dedication to making the team so spectacular
and fun!
