Sestito APRIL: Vice Principal God has given us many guidelines and examples of how to live our lives. He sent his Son Jesus to make sure that we could see what life could be like. M. D’Alessandro Head Secretary J. Lonardi Assistant Secretary C. Roman School Council Chair C. Sheenan/D. Farrow Superintendent L. Storey 905-890-1221 Trustee Mr. T. Thomas (905) 803-9317 Love (EASTER) This month we will celebrate Easter and LOVE. Jesus made one lesson clear above all other lessons – the lesson to love. Love is not about us – it is about forgetting ourselves and looking out for the good of the other. That’s what Jesus did – he forgot about himself on purpose. He chose to give up his life for the good of others – us! Becoming a truly loving person is challenging. It takes prayer and concentration to get used to making little sacrifices for the good of others. Making little sacrifices on purpose so that others will have a bit of food, a bit of shelter, a bit of peace, a bit of quiet, a bit of fun, a bit of friendship. Through prayer and concentration, we can get better at showing love to everyone we meet. Parish Our Lady of the Airways 905-677-4615 Parish Team Fr. Lorenzo-Pastor Fr. JK - Children must be 4 years old by Dec. 31, 2010 SK - Children must be 5 years old by Dec. 31, 2010 Parents/Guardians should bring the Please remember following documents:to attend Sunday Mass as part of your Lenten for Easter. proofpreparation of age original Catholic Baptismal Certificate of the Roman, Greek or Ukrainian Rite 1 History tells us that Lent was not only to be a time of fasting and abstinence (meat was only to be eaten on Sundays) but all were directed to live the forty days in deep prayer, penitence and meditation. No parties were to be celebrated. No social activities were to be scheduled. For 40 days and nights, all but the most essential activity was to be stopped. Even little children were expected to make an effort not to enjoy life too much during Lent. Today Lent has still a strong spiritual meaning in that we are called to do penance, to repent for our sins, to change our hearts for the better, to think more to our spiritual life and to the eternal life. No question there is room, even today, for giving up certain things; but the most important work during Lent is, surely, to give up sin and to spend more time in prayer, in reading the Holy Scriptures, in becoming more Christ-like people, we rise with Jesus to a new life – the life of grace. Let’s make Lent a time of quiet togetherness for family (turn off the T.V. a day a week etc.), prayer, fasting, and good works. Lent is the season in which we prepare joyfully for the mystery of Easter with minds and hearts renewed. During Lent, the community of faith is blessed with a spirit of loving reverence for God and of willing service to neighbour. The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (March 20) and concludes before the evening mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday.
