VERIFICATION FORMS Verification forms were sent home in September, please update forms so that the school has accurate information in case of emergencies. Thank you. PROGRESS REPORTS Progress reports will be coming home November 17, 2015. The progress report provides initial information, early in the school year, about a student’s progress. It is designed to show a student’s development of the learning skills and work habits, as well as a student’s general progress in working towards the achievement of the curriculum expectations. For these reasons, the November Progress Report does not include marks. The evening of November 19th, 2015 will be designated for Parent Teacher Interviews. *Note: Students in FDK do not receive a progress report in November. HALLOWEEN DANCE On Friday, October 30, Holy Cross will host its annual Halloween Dance in the gym. Student Council will sell healthy snacks. A separate letter will be coming home with the dance schedule. Reminder: Please no face masks or fake weapons of any sort. This will save time and improve efficiency in the ordering process. Proceeds will go directly back towards initiatives that support Holy Cross School. The top of the pants must meet the bottom of the shirt with no exposure of midriff or undergarments at any time, even if the wearer is reaching up. 2. Students should not wear short-shorts, tight spandex biking shorts or cutoffs. 3. Tank tops, halter tops, spaghetti strap tops, muscle shirts, mesh shirts or any other clothing which leaves the wearer with a bare shoulder, a bare back or a bare middle may not be worn. 4. Clothing with suggestive, offensive and/or inappropriate slogans or pictures, particularly those of a sexual, racial or violent nature are not acceptable. We ask for your continued support for a dress code that reflects a Catholic school as a place for serious work, accompanied by standards of sensitivity, politeness and decorum. Thank you in advance for your continued support and cooperation. KISS AND RIDE PROGRAM AND PLAYGROUND SUPERVISION The Kiss and Ride program takes place before school and after school. Parents are reminded that our driveway employs a one-way traffic system. Parents wishing to drop off children at school must enter from the east driveway only and exit from the driveway near the Church only. Cars are not permitted to park in any of the Kiss and Ride lanes, Bus lanes or any designated Fire Route. The school will not be liable for any tickets issued to cars parked in any of the above lanes. Please do not drop students off in front of the school. LUNCH POLICY Thank you for completing the Lunch Permission Form and returning it to your child’s teacher. This will ensure that the school is aware of where you prefer your child(ren) to be over the lunch hour. The classroom teachers will keep a copy of the forms and a master file system will be housed in the main office. Any changes to the agreement throughout the year must be submitted in writing to the teacher and/or office. A table has been placed outside the office for lunches. Lunches should only be dropped off on rare occasions. If you are dropping off a lunch for your child please clearly label your child’s name and teacher’s name on the outside of the lunch bag/container and place it on the lunch table. Please make arrangements with your child in the morning - classes are not to be interrupted for students to be notified or to pick up lunches. ANAPHYLAXIS PLAN We have a number of staff and students in our school who have severe allergic reactions to peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oils and any peanut by-products. As in the past, we are asking you do not put anyone at risk. Do not send any PEANUTS, PEANUT BUTTER, PEANUT OILS AND ANY PEANUT BYPRODUCTS INTO THE SCHOOL. This includes products like Nutella as well. ALLERGIES IN THE SCHOOL At Holy Cross School we also have several members of our school who have allergies to seafood, fish, eggs, cinnamon, sesame and some fruits. The Parenting and Family Literacy Centre provides a special time for you and your child to play and learn in a community school setting. A wonderful way to prepare your child for school. Connect with other parents/caregivers and learn about other programs and resources available in your community. Everyone is welcome. The program operates every Monday to Friday from 9:30 AM -12:30 PM. VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS We wish to thank everyone who faithfully reports to the Office and signs in when visiting or volunteering at the school. A reminder to all who enter the school that you are required to sign in at the Office and obtain a Visitor or Volunteer badge which you are required to wear when you are in the school or in the school yard. PICTURE DAY(S) Holy Cross School has secured the services of Edge Imaging Photography to take our students’ pictures. Our picture day is Tuesday, October 13th for all students. Retakes will be done November 12, 2015. THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE Monday, September 28 – Friday, October 9. As Thanksgiving approaches we are asking families from Holy Cross to donate non-perishable and canned food items to help support families that are in need in our school community. Thanks to you we will be making a difference and many people happy during Thanksgiving because of your generous donations. HELP US HELP THOSE IN NEED. SCHOOL COUNCIL 2015 – 2016 An election was not required to determine the school council for the 2015-2016 school year. Our first School Council meeting was held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 in our school library. All school council meetings are held in the conference room or library and are open to all parents of Holy Cross students. General meetings begin at 6:30 pm. The Terry Fox walk was held at Holy Cross on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. Thank you to all of the students and our community for their continued support of the Terry Fox initiative. Visit our website: www.dpcdsb.org/hcros 4 IMMUNIZATION CLINICS Registered Nurses from Peel Public Health will be coming to Holy Cross between September and June to offer immunization against three serious diseases. Grade 7 boys and girls will be offered the hepatitis B and meningococcal vaccines. Grade 8 girls will be offered the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. If you would like to have your child immunized and have not returned the form, please contact Holy Cross School. The first round of vaccinations will take place at Holy Cross on October 28, 2015. During this week Holy Cross School will be encouraging students to STAND UP TO BULLYING. The Safe Schools Action Team along with The Empowerment group will be encouraging student to stop and prevent bullying at our school. We will be starting some great initiatives such as student led announcements and cooperative games during recess. Students and staff will also be receiving their own STAND UP TO BULLYING BRACELET. PARENT AND FAMILY LITERACY CENTRE Our Parenting and Family Literacy Centre at Holy Cross School has re-opened for the 201516 school year with our new Parent Worker Kay Lopes. It is a FREE program for parents/grandparents and caregivers with children from birth to age six. This fun, playbased program is designed to support your child’s early learning and development. Drop in and participate in engaging activities focused on literacy and child development. Hours are 9:30a.m. - 1:00p.m (Monday-Friday) in Room 114.Please sign in at the main office. PUPIL ACCOMMODATION REVIEW POLICY PUBLIC CONSULTATION The Ministry of Education released the new Pupil Accommodation Review Guideline (PARG) in March 2015. This guideline sets expectations for all school boards on managing and reviewing underutilized school space, including potential school closures, and for the greater coordination and sharing of planning related information between school boards and other community partners. The guideline requires all school boards in the province to develop or revise Pupil Accommodation Review Policies and to invite public input into the policy before it is finalized. A survey to collect feedback on the DufferinPeel Catholic District School Board’s draft amended Policy 6.51 Pupil Accommodation Review will be available for review and comment on the Board’s website at www.dpcdsb.org until 4:30 pm on Friday, October 16, 2015. Supporting documents will also be available for reference and review. Please consider reviewing and providing input on this policy.
