ACTION ITEMS: 1. Approval of Minutes: The 4.13.15 minutes were approved with a correction to be made to the attendance list: Laura Fatuzzo was not present for the April 13 meeting. INFORMATION/DISCUSSION/PRESENTATIONS 2. Report on Core Competency Meetings Cheryl reported to the committee that she met separately with Kelly Locke and LaVerne Cook concerning Core Competency projects. The meeting with Kelly was to discuss data needed for an analysis of Turnitin.com results. This data will be used to examine the effectiveness of Turnitin.com as a tool to improve the ethical use of sources, which is part of the Information Skills Competency. Cheryl received a spreadsheet of data from Kelly and presented it to the committee members. She said she would email it to committee members for further examination. O&A Minutes (4.27.15) 2 The meeting with LaVerne Cook was to identify courses that could be used to collect student writing samples – in this case, a research paper – for an assessment of written communication skills. LaVerne identified the following courses: ENG 1A (Dan Petersen) ENG 2 (Dan Petersen) ETH 1 (Peggy Mayfield) HIS 17A or 17B (Carol King) POL 1 (Mary Cousineau) PSY 2 (Mary Cousineau) SOC 1 (Peggy Mayfield) The committee members who are working on the Written CC assessment project, selected courses that they would be responsible for in terms of contacting instructors and requesting papers. Cheryl will send an email to committee members with details of assignment requirements and information that should be asked of the instructors teaching these courses. 3. Joint Conversation with O&A Committee and Elumen Pilot Faculty Members of the Elumen Pilot group joined the committee for the last hour to discuss how to proceed with Elumen activities. The following decisions were made: Fall 14 action plans – these would not be required but would be sent to all faculty who did assessments to provide an example of what to expect in the future. Those faculty who did assess in Fall 14 would have the option to complete them and have them on file, but it would not be required. Spring 15 assessments and action plans – assessments for Spring 15 should be completed with scores entered and action plans submitted by June 30. Spring Refresher Workshops – Cheryl will send out a calendar to the pilot group and ask faculty to identify 1 workshop they can assist with. There will be a total of 5 workshops to be offered at varying times. The purpose of the workshop is to refresh faculty on how to create an assessment and save it in the library. It will also be an opportunity to show faculty what a section level action plan looks like. Convocation – the committee and pilot group agreed that there should be time on convocation day to address Elumen activities. Convocation is a time when disciplines are guaranteed to meet together and it was expressed that adjuncts need to be there as well to learn the process. The group recommended the following activites be conducted on convocation: Discuss section level plans and course aggregated data Identify course level coordinators for the Spring 15 assessments Discuss the calendar of assessment for the year, identifying courses to be assessed, who will be course coordinators, etc. HARTNELL COLLEGE VISION STATEMENT Hartnell College will be nationally recognized for the success of our students by developing leaders who will contribute to the social, cultural, and economic vitality of our region and the global community. O&A Minutes (4.27.15) 3 Assessment Weeks for Fall 15 Semester – During this two week period, the foculs will be on Program Level Outcomes. Faculty/disciplines will meet to complete the following: Review PLO reports generated in Elumen Review mapping of course SLOs to PLOs (these maps will come from Elumen) Complete a Program Level Outcome report (committee generated template) OTHER ITEMS/BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENTS Cheryl told the committee that we need to start thinking about another faculty member who will chair the committee beginning in the Fall 2015 semester.
