NEWS Volume 18, Number 9 A recent “60 Minutes” program cited research demonstrating that exercise, keeping your brain active, and moderate caffeine are factors contributing to living better and longer. CALL’s purpose is to contribute to living better by helping you enrich your lifelong spiritual, intellectual, cultural and social lives; and to create a partnership with Calvin College and senior citizens who want to share knowledge, talents and experience. Welcome to the nearly 600 new members who joined CALL since September, 2013, and who are part of a group of 2,000+ of us participating in our programs. CALL started 19 years ago with a small group of Calvin dedicated faculty and alumni. It wanted a unique organization which was independent of the college structure, yet aligned with Calvin in spirit and purpose. It is June 2014 a separate entity with its own mission and purpose. It is very decentralized, which means that major decisions about offerings and events are made at the committee level. It is not charged for the use of classroom space, but it does pay for direct, out-of-pocket expenses, e.g., luncheon costs, printing and marketing that’s CALL related. Bottom line! CALL’s goal is to break even each year. So, as is often said “it’s a win-win” for CALL and the college. Thanks to all of you for sharing news of CALL with family and friends. But we also need some of you to join various committees. Check out the Annual Meeting Brochure on line (distributed at the Annual Meeting) for a description of the various ways you can participate. Contact the office or a board member and be a part of what we do.
