“Until the Whole World Hears” The Casting Crowns By: Kali Hiser Background Information • The Casting Crowns are a Christian rock group. • The main purpose of the band is to get to know Jesus more. • The title, Until the Whole World Hears, comes from John the Baptist’s life. • This is the Casting Crown’s fourth studio album. Background Information Continued • This album was produced by the lead singer, Mark Hall. • The cover art belongs to the label, Beach Street Records. The graphic artist did the cover. Questions? • What is the first thing that catches your eye when you look at the picture? • Why do you think that a child is used? • Why do you think there is so little color used? • What do the words mean to you? Audience • The audience of this picture is anyone that is interested in music. If you are in a music store, you could easily see this. This could also be seen in a Christian book store. Point of View • Since there is a child in the picture, it seems that this message is coming from a child’s point of view. He is looking over a big city trying to deliver a message. Symbolism • The megaphone is a symbol. It symbolizes the voices of all the people trying to tell people about Jesus. • I think the city in the background is also a symbol. It symbolizes the entire world and the shape its in. • I think the child symbolizes hope because through him there is hope that the world will listen and change. Focus • The main focus is the child. The child is trying to help the whole world. He has his megaphone and is ready to spread the word about God. He is overlooking the city that needs his help. Pathos • I believe this is pathos-an emotional appeal- because when I look at this, I feel sorry for the little boy. You can tell he is getting tired of trying to help the world because he has put his megaphone down. However, he hasn’t given up. He is still out there and trying. It also gives you hope when there are people out there willing to try this hard for something they believe in. Questions? • Why do you think the background is a big city scene instead of a small town or country scene? • Why do you think the words, “Until the Whole World Hears” is so small? Font • Until the Whole World Hears– • I think it is done in a smaller font because the whole world isn’t hearing yet. The message hasn’t got out to everyone yet. Casting Crowns– The “t” is done in a cross shape to show that the band is a Christian band. It is a symbol for their faith. Color • Little color is used in this picture. I think they did this because they are trying to show you how dull life is without God in it. They are trying to show that God is what brings the color into our life. The world is going to stay dull until the whole world hears about God and they are going to keep singing until the whole world does hear. Sources • Amazon.com.
