Orange Room March 1st -31st 2016 “Texas/ Farm and Rodeo” Lesson Review Domain Gross Motor/ Outdoor Play Fine Motor/ Pre-Writing Cognitive/ Phonological Awareness Social/ Emotional Self-Help Home Connection The children will continue to strengthen their coordination skills by moving their bodies in different ways such as Lone Star Stand on 1 foot 5 Seconds, throwing tumble weeds 10 feet, Texan hop on 1 foot, gallop forward Texan, Trail riders chuck wagons take sharp turns, catching tumble weeds, hang on cowboys and girls, Texans march, touch your toes partner and raise those heels you Texans. Play a game of throw and catch with your child near and far. The children will enhancing their eye-hand coordination skills by participating in small group activities such as building a ranch gate, hanging clothes on the line, folding napkins, making quilt pieces, stuffing envelopes, making handkerchiefs, tying knots in a rope, repairing porch steps and grooming their horses. They will also use writing and painting materials to make signs and pictures to help create our Texas/Farm and Rodeo environment. Give your child crayons and paper and let them draw pictures of familiar environmental print from the sales papers. The children will practice observation skills and make comparison between objects and draw logical conclusions. They will also practice asking how, why, where, when and what questions. They will learn onset rime by listening to words broken into parts then say the recognized word. Encourage your child to sing songs and point out robust words read in a story. The children will strengthen their skills of assisting peers in need and responding positively to accomplishments of their peers. Help your child to recognize when someone may need assistance. Describe the situation in a few words and model how to offer assistance to others in need. Ex: “May I help you?” A few ideas for areas of assistance (with folding laundry, by getting a Kleenex or picking up a dropped object etc.) The children will practice using small pitchers to pour their own milk for snack. They will also practice spreading food with a plastic table knife. Provide your child with opportunities to practice pouring their small container of water, milk, or juice into a cup.
