Lesson Review Domain Gross Motor/ Outdoor Play Fine Motor/ Pre-Writing Cognitive/ Phonological Awareness Social/ Emotional Self-Help Butterfly Room “Giddy Up, Cowboys and Cowgirls!” March 2016 Home Connection This month the children will learn about cowboys, cowgirls, animals and their habitats. They will continue to develop their large muscle strength by participating in gross motor activities such as using their upper and lower bodies. This includes skipping, jumping, throwing and balancing. At home, practice skipping down the drive way, in the backyard, jump from one point to the next, throwing into a basket or box and balancing a small container on their head while walking. The children will build their fine motor skills by using eye - hand coordination; Placing shapes on paper to create an image, using chalk, crayons and paint to begin pre-writing. At home, find the opportunity to color with your child. Assist them with the proper way of holding a crayon or a pencil. Create designs, shapes or letters. Learning about cowboys and cowgirls, your child will introduced to new vocabulary words. They will use their critical thinking skills to complete a person, do puzzles related to the theme and be able to respond to open-ended questions during story time. At home, you can read books and ask our child, “What do you see?”, “What happened?”, “What do you think will happen next?” The children will learn to take turns, play, sing and do art as a group. They will also listen as their friends take turns expressing themselves and/or sharing their ideas. We will celebrate “Read Across America” for Dr. Seuss birthday (March 2nd). At home, read one of Dr. Seuss all-time favorites “The Cat in the Hat” or “Green Eggs and Ham”. The children will continue to assist during meal time by passing out the spoons and napkins. At home, have your child help with setting the table; whether it’s eating utensils, cups, plates or napkins.
