Mant This year St. Edmund Campion is in it’s eighty year of operation as a faith based Catholic learning community serving 2100 students in north west Brampton As your new Principal, I am delighted and privileged to be a part of this very diverse and dynamic school community that is served by a very energized and dedicated young staff. In the past, as any new learning institution, Campion went through some growing pains, today we are making a difference by providing our students with some excellent educational programs and activities that focuses on learning for the whole person (mind, body and soul). Over the last year our pass rates, credit accumulation and EQAO test scores have improved significantly and our extra and co-curricular activities (see P 17) have kept our students connected, energized and engaged in school. As everything we do at Campion is rooted in our Catholic virtues under the leadership of our chaplaincy team and all our Catholic Educators that serve our school community. As for myself, I have been an administrator for 19 year with the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board at five secondary schools in Brampton and Mississauga. On a personal note, I would like to thank our last Principal Mr.Mc Guire for his hard work and dedication over his 3 year tenure at Campion and wish him the very best during his retirement. As we celebrate the past and move forward with tremendous optimism and hope, we have added to our staff a new Vice Principal, Ms. Deme and a new head secretary Ms. Hannan. Finally, during this season of Advent; ―May the peace and joy of Christmas be with you throughout the New Year‖. God Bless. N. Mant Principal 2 Campion’s 2010-2011 Administrative Team L. Deme A-Da O. Faraone Db-K P. Arthurs L-P H. Tighe Q-Z A Message From Your School Trustee Linda Zanella I would like to thank all the Catholic supporters for returning me to office. I look forward to representing your interests for the next four years. Many changes have taken place at the Ministry level and we will face a number of challenges in the next four years. I will continue to work hard to provide the level of service that you expect from me. My major focus will be on your student's achievement. We are constantly achieving or exceeding the Ministry levels in EQAO results and I will strive to continue to reach these goals. As always, I am available to discuss your concerns. Please feel free to contact me any time. Best Regards, Linda Zanella 3 Greetings in the name of Christ Jesus, Lord and Redeemer! The Chaplaincy Department is buzzing with activity as more than 70 retreats have been planned for the 2010/2011 school year! All retreats have a focus on outreach, as students from St. Edmund Campion learn what it means to be a servant-leader and become the hands and feet of Jesus for our local community and beyond. The grade nines will attend Knights Table, Peel Region’s only soup kitchen and food bank for a day of service and information gathering regarding issues surrounding poverty and social assistance. The grade tens continue to help Dr. Andrew Simone in his mission of helping the poor in the developing world by volunteering at his Canadian Food for Children Warehouse. The grade elevens work cooperatively with the clients of St. Jude’s Academy of the Arts, comprised of developmentally challenged adults who are gifted in the areas of mu- Academic Awards Night sic, dance, and drama. The grade twelves venture out on an urban street patrol, delivering sandwiches prepared by Mr. Bezina’s Hospitality class to the homeless population on the streets of Toronto. I am also excited about the plans for Campion’s P.E.A.C.E. Team. This team has a specific mission of evangelization throughout the school community in the form of service and model behaviour. In October the P.E.A.C.E. Team held it’s first annual ―Turn Off Your Tech Day‖ which encouraged students to forego ipods, phones, etc. and spend that time in prayer. This day culminated in a public recitation of the rosary that took place during lunch in the heart of the matrix. P.E.A.C.E. Team students also took part in a Development & Peace Day at Father Michael Goetz in early November. This day educated students about the issue of access to clean water for the world’s poor. It is this information that students will bring with them as they lead the Thinkfast initiative in the springtime. I want to especially thank the teacher advisors of the P.E.A.C.E. Team who guide and assist our young people in doing the Lord’s work. These teachers are Mr. J. Wey, Ms. D. Joanes, Ms. M. Rodricks, Ms. T. Kwan, Mr. P. Kozma, and Ms. D. Metallo. I am especially grateful for the time and energy they put forward in the formation of these young leaders. Peace and blessings to you all! Mr. Marcolla Our Academic Awards Night took place on Thursday October 28th at 7:00pm with students and their parents participating in this wonderful event. Over 800 people were in attendance! What better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to bring Christmas into the lives of those families who would otherwise do without. We here at St. Edmund Campion Secondary School have begun our “Campion Cans for Christmas”, 10,000 can challenge on November 15, 2010 and will end on December 15, 2010 with the delivery of the cans to our regions community charitable programs: Knights Table (www.knightstable.org), St. Louise Outreach (www.stelouisefoodbank.ca) and St. Vincent DePaul Society (www.ssvp.on.ca). Preparing our Community Christmas has been a tradition here at our school for the past eight years. Helping our community instils a positive behaviour and self-worth in our students which relates to a need for understanding that their support as a whole is necessary in the Brampton and larger community. The students and staff have begun their collection and canvassing for people and organizations that will assist in this challenge. Your support through non perishable can foods for these families and organizations is greatly appreciated. Any amount of food will go a long way to feeding the hungry in our community. Anti-Bullying Week Lucas B. creative writing (read by Micheal P.) There are so many bullies in our school, There are so many bullies, who think they’re cool, The sky is blue the blood is running from his face like a pool, All the bullies are high but they have no clue how much They hurt our world our families and our friends. Bullies are fake, so let’s stand up, No more lives need to be taken, No more hearts need to be broken, Let’s take action together, Campion St. Edmund Campion ended up on the right side of the law, on Thursday November 18, 2010, as they competed against the Peel Police’s basketball squad. In our efforts to become a safer, Catholic community, Campion invited the Peel Police into our gymnasium to build school spirit and community. Campion welcomed Father Jan, who tossed the jump ball at the start of the game. Proceeds from the game went to the Toys for Tots campaign. National Anti-Bullying Week took place November 15-November 19, 2010 and Campion was successful in appealing to the cause of ―Taking Action Together‖. The event was once again a huge success! Over 130 Grade 9 girls attended the event, over 20 Senior Students volunteered as Group Leaders, and 30 of our own Fabulous Staff Members helped organize, supervise, and run the activities and workshops! The night opened with a special prayer and blessing given by our Chaplaincy Leader, Patrick Marcolla, followed by many fun-filled activities and workshops that focused on team-building, teen issues, self-esteem/selfconfidence, and health and fitness. In addition to the activities and workshops, the girls were inspired and empowered by the presence of two special guests: Guest Speaker Tricia Clarke, Canadian National Basketball Champion, and Laura Liscio from the Canadian Cancer Society. To add more excitement to the night, the girls were treated to a special Dramatic Presentation by the talented Brampton actress and writer, Elisa Lollino, who performed an inspirational and entertaining one woman play. Although the event was funded by the school and free of charge, the girls in attendance answered the call for donations to the Canadian Cancer Society and to our local Food Bank. The coin donations, along with the nonperishable food donations, were greatly appreciated! As always, Campion answers the call to service, and as our Theme Song rang out through our event…everyone involved in our 4thAnnual Girls’ Night-In Event was absolutely ―AMAZING‖!!!! St. Edmund Campion welcomes KEITH HAWKINS On Thursday October 14th, 2010, St. Edmund Campion welcomed Keith Hawkins to speak to our Grade Nines about ―stepping up to the challenge‖. Keith then conducted smaller seminars throughout the day, engaging Campion’s leadership groups - SWOLE, SEARCH and Student Council. We look forward to Mr. Hawkins’ return to Campion on February 28th and March 1st, 2011 as he reaches out to the rest of the school during the day and conferences with the Campion community at 7:00 pm in the evening of February 28th, 2011. Grade 8 Registration and Information Night 30th, On Tuesday, November 350 of our feeder school students and their parents were invited to attend the Grade 8 Registration and Information Night. Students and parents were greeted by our Guidance Ambassadors and strolled through our matrix that showcased many of the extra-curricular groups, sports teams and departments that represented Campion well. What a great way to show off our dynamic school community! The information component of the night was well attended as Mr. Marcolla, the Chaplaincy Leader, our Principal, Mr. Mant and our Guidance Team presented to parents and students about the transition to Grade 9. The group then dispersed according to feeder school to different areas of the school to register. Thanks again to all our students and staff who welcomed our future bear cubs to our wonderful Campion community. Former Campion Student Receives Scholarship Seven young woman from Dufferin-Peel schools received scholarships from the Brampton chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW). The $450 scholarship was awarded to one female graduate from each of Brampton’s 18 high schools. Criteria for consideration also stipulated that recipients must reside in Brampton, plan to enroll in a degreegranting program at a Canadian university and must have achieved academic excellence while fully participating in a variety of school and community activities. Melissa N. a former Campion student who was an honour role achiever, student council member, member of the United Nations Club and took part in many other school groups was a recipient. She was a member of the Mayor’s Youth Team and is currently attending university hoping to pursue career in medicine. Way to go Melissa you make us proud! 6 CO-OP Students Do It Again ! They’ve done it again! Our cooperative education students are doing an outstanding job representing Campion within the community. Their cooperative education placements are as unique and special as the students themselves. From Fiorio at Square One Shopping Centre to Planet Ford at the Brampton Auto Mall, each student is learning a variety of skills at a placement that best suits their interests or future career goals. Cooperative Education, or Co-op, serves as a wonderful opportunity for students to earn elective credits outside of the classroom. Students can gain 2, 3 or 4 credits through a co-op experience. To learn additional information about the Cooperative Education Program, please see a Guidance Counselor or a Cooperative Education Teacher. A couple of current success stories within the Co-op Program include Alyssa working as a Kennel Assistant at the City of Brampton Animal Shelter. Some of her work duties include cleaning kennels, socializing animals, assisting with adoptions, providing food, medicine and water for the animals and assisting with administrative work. We also have Anthony at Victoria Park Recreation Centre as a Maintenance Facility Assistant. His duties include assisting with Search Program The SEARCH program recently visited YMCA Cedar Glen where the students spent 3 days exploring the 246 acre property and completing challenges involving orienteering, archery, low ropes and outdoor survival skills such fire and shelter building. The students were required to work together in teams to solve problems and complete the challenges. Through this, interpersonal relationships between students were strengthened, leaders within the group emerged, and a sense of mutual respect was developed. The students also participated in high ropes activities including the ―Leap of Faith‖ and maneuvering the ―Vertical Play Ground‖ which consisted of swinging tires, high wires and swinging planks suspended 50 feet above the ground. Students were able to set their own goals associated with the activities and were then able to work towards accomplishing these goals. Though difficult at times for some due to a fear of heights, many students were able to complete both high ropes courses with the support and encouragement of their classmates. This was the first outdoor experience for the SEARCH program. In April, students will be travelling to Algonquin Park to participate in a 3-day, Leaders of the Day camping program. 7 African Canadian History The CWS department is excitedly preparing for the sophomore year of one of Campion’s newest course this coming February: IDC 3O1 African Canadian History. Last year’s inaugural run of the course was met with great success as students truly enjoyed this experience. The course is the first of its kind being offered in Dufferin Peel and is a Grade 11 elective course open to ALL students. The course will examine the many contributions of Black Canadians within the context of Canadian society and history, and will trace the roots and heritage of one of Canada’s earliest communities. The class will examine issues of racism and oppression, and will celebrate the diversity of Canadian society. Campion has enjoyed great success during its Black History Month celebrations and is a school community that can be characterized by its participation and welcoming attitude. All students are encouraged to take this ground breaking course. Look out for this course when you are making your course selections for the 2011-2012 school Grade 12 Challenge and Change Field Trip Remembrance Day 2010 This fall, as part of the Grade 12 Challenge and Change Course, Ms. Newton’s and Mr. Laezza’s classes took part in a field trip to Black Creek Pioneer Village and York University. During the first portion of the excursion, students were transported back in time and learned about the challenges of life in Canada during the 19th century. They received a glimpse of the living conditions, technological challenges, social life and culture of the time. The tour also provided a great opportunity for our students to learn about economic and social issues of 19th century Canada. Students spent the second half of the day at York University where students received a guided tour of the campus and a glimpse into the university’s Social Science departments. On November 11, the Canadian and World Studies department hosted the annual Remembrance Day celebration. This year’s celebration focused on faith and sacrifice within the context of modern military and peacekeeping missions. Mr. Laezza provided the keynote address which passionately expressed the need to remember the sacrifices of veterans from previous conflicts while also emphasizing the importance of being mindful of present-day Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan and peacekeeping deployments around the Globe. Mr. Cordeiro provided a heartfelt video presentation, accompanied by the song Highway of Heroes, which highlighted the ongoing sacrifice of Canadian soldiers and their families. Several students contributed readings and prayers while school chaplain Mr. Marcolla recited a Gospel passage. The ceremony was drawn to a close with some poignant words from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr: Canadian and World Studies Website Canadian and World Studies (CWS) continues to actively use the school website for most of its courses and to promote and celebrate many of the events and activities that are running at the school that are organized through the department. Schedules, assignments, some notes, handouts, culminating projects, and test and exam reviews are all available on the various course links and both students and parents are encouraged to make the page one of their favourites on their home computer. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with our website when you get the chance: http://w3.dpcdsb.org/CAMPI/ Departments/Canadian+World+Studies/ 8 “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction....The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.” Justice League by Celina T. Campion Student On Friday November 19 2010, Grade 11 students from eight schools across the city assembled into the Peel A. Grenville & William Davis Courthouse Ontario Court of Justice to participate in the annual Mock Bail Tournament. The tournament was sponsored by OJEN (The Ontario Justice Education Network), prepared and organized PJEN (Peel Ontario Justice Network) and their Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board representative Nicolette Stewart. ―Welcome to our world,‖ greeted Justice Clark, addressing the nervous students seated in the juror reception room of the courthouse. Justice Clark reassured the competitors, insisting that the Justices were there to offer direction. ―We’re here to welcome and encourage—to show you that you can do this,‖ he stated. The Mock Bail Tournament is the only competition of its kind in the entire province. Addressers commented on the style of event, nostalgically diving into anecdotes. ―Enjoy the exercise that we learned from,‖ said the Honourable Kathryn Hawke, Regional Senior Judge for Central West Region of Brampton.―I wished many of [the students] good luck,‖ said His Worship Clark. ―Good luck is where preparation meets opportunity,‖ he explained. His words raised the spirits of the competitors. The mood inside the courtrooms, however, was quite the opposite. It was evident that these students wanted victory, and wanted it badly. Court was in session and as it progressed, the nerves of the students receded, the hunger for domination incontestably more yearned for. The cross examination became vicious and the fire of passion laced every question and answer. At the end of the day, there were no hard feelings. Competitors turned out to be excellent lawyers, and even better sportsmen and women, congratulating each other on their performances and shaking each others’ hands. All participants cheered for St. Augustine students, who were awarded Most Collegial Team for their virtuous performance. Teams were no longer divided by Her Majesty and the defense, but came together as a group of students who shared the same thing: an interest and passion for the study of law. The Justices shared not only their guidance and support with these aspiring lawyers, but also a quirky tradition of eating bananas after court cases, upon the hope that they would not be ―a-peeled.‖ Philosophy Students Meet With Dr. Nyvlt Mark Nyvlt is a professor and philosopher from the Dominican University in Ottawa who graced St. Edmund Campion philosophy students with his presence over two days. He discussed the value of studying philosophy and the importance of critical thinking skills in our world today. Dr. Nyvlt also acknowledged the importance of self-actualization and the role philosophy can play in assisting each of us to better our lives. It was an honor and privilege to have him here. Costs were covered by Shelagh Peterson at the CEC, and we are grateful for the opportunity provided. NOW Program This past August St. Edmund Campion hosted the Newcomer Orientation Week (NOW) for it’s third year in a row. The NOW program’s focus is to help newcomer secondary students become acquainted with their new school and surroundings. The program, led by current Campion students Claire M. and Jerome C., teacher Mrs. Depikolozvane, and Campion Settlement Worker Michael Bay, was once again a great success as students participated in a scavenger hunt around the school, visited the Cassie Campbell Community Centre, learned about the Ontario high school system, and most importantly made some new friends. The Campion community would like to welcome the following students who joined us this year: Freda B. Elaine C. Josh C. Kenneth D. C. Patricia D.C. Pauline D. C. Roi E. Racine G. Justine H. Deba I. Nygel L. Joshusa Jon M Von Joshua M. Charissa M. Karen M. Monique S. Harry S. Nav S Joshua V. English Trip to the ROM and U of T On Friday, November 19th, 2010 students from Mrs. Cordeiro’s grade 11 Visit English class and Miss Ouellette’s grade 11 English and ESL classes attended a trip to the University of Toronto and the Royal Ontario Museum. While at the University of Toronto students learned about university life and some of the history behind one of Canada’s oldest educational institutions. Additionally, during the tour of the ROM students participated in a workshop focused on the power of storytelling throughout the ages. The trip was a great success as it provided students with the opportunity to not only explore their future options but also connect with humanity’s rich past. 9 From The Arts Corner Campion Arts Christmas Coffee House is fast approaching! To compliment the new Music curriculum, Ms. Dobson and Mr. Lamorte have arranged a guest speaker and his band to perform in the school's Theatre on December 9. The band in called Enviro Drum and is run by Jeff Salem, a local Brampton Citizen. Current music students are being given the opportunity to attend the workshop being given that morning. Science News Students taking Science may have noticed some new faces in the ―EC Penthouse‖. Mr. Vitale, Ms. Perrotta and Ms. Salmon have been a fantastic addition to the Science Department and I am sure the students also agree. When you flush a toilet in your home, where does the lovely excrement go? Well Ms. Lasch’s students could give you a detailed answer as they recently visited Peel’s Wastewater Management Site in Port Credit. Smelly but loaded with hard working bacteria recycling all that good matter. The Science Club has started up and after last year’s smashing success at the Science Olympiad, we are stacking up our teams to take another run at the gold medal of Science. ―Inertia is a property of matter.‖ If you are interested in joining, listen to the announcements or see Mr. Doherty. This year the FBLA extra curricular club has created workshops on resume writing and interview skills. These workshops give students much needed tips on how to land the perfect job. In addition, this years FBLA chapter has also created a workshop which will be presented to select classes on ―How to be successful in a Presentation.‖ Many students are very nervous presenting in front of a class, and this workshop is shares tips on how to overcome those jitters and to be a confident public speaker. Stay tuned for more FBLA projects. ThankYou to the advisors for their hard work so far that include C. Ocampo and N. Karanikolas. Mock Bail 2010 On November 19th, St. Edmund Campion competed in the Peel Mock Bail Tournament at the Brampton Court House. This year, Campion sent two outstanding teams to the tournament. Our students worked tirelessly over the past two months and did a tremendous job during their mock bail hearings to tie for 3rd place. Congratulations to all the team members for a job well done and for representing Campion with class and style. A special congratulation goes out to Wilson R. who won best Crown Attorney at the competition, and Akeisha K. who won for best witness. Our 2010 Mock Bail Team Members were: Mock Bail Team #1 Toni R. Natasha D. Denise S. Akiesha K. Mariam C. Mock Bail Team #2 Melanie D. Morsal H. David J. Wilson R. Rajmeen K. Troy M. Harmony Movement 2010 The Harmony Movement has started again at Campion! The chosen students in the group possess excellent leadership skills and demonstrate core values of the community. At each meeting, students discuss ideas relating to stereotypes, disabilities, gender, race and religion. During this 8-week program, these students work towards a Diversity Leadership Certificate. At the end of the program, these youth will be educating their peers about the above topics in a series of workshops which will be taking place in early December. By participating in the Harmony Movement at Campion these students are celebrating diversity in our school community and making us all proud of it! “Le Club Franco-fun” Bonjour et bonne année à tous! The French Club at Campion is gearing up for a busy year! Students interested in expanding their knowledge of the French language and culture will have the opportunity to join ―Le Cercle Français.‖ A new executive has begun planning events for students who wish to join. Activities will include: 1) a taffy-pull to celebrate the feast of Ste. Catherine in late November. 2) participation in the Campion Christmas Coffee House on December 16th. 3) Mardi Gras crêpe-making and sale in February. 4) a ―Guess the famous movie line‖ French activity in March. 5) helping to plan and organize a school-wide French speech contest –―Le Concours d’art Oratoire‖ in early April. 6) and…the opportunity to meet and practice your French-language skills while introducing the Campion school community to the fascinating French language! Mesdames Latendresse, Spottiswood et Hanna vous accueillent! 12 “Senior Boys Football – From Worst to First!!!” On Friday, November 19th, the Senior Boys Football team made history with a dramatic comefrom-behind victory over the Clarkson Chargers to win the Tier II Championship Finals with a final score of 21-20. The Championship is Campion’s first in football. The win was certainly a fitting end to a season that didn’t look as promising at the end of last school year. The departure of former head coach, Luca Venier, coupled with the fact that three of the remaining four members of the senior coaching staff were expecting the birth of their first children during the football season, did not bode well for the Bears. (Congratulations to Coach Ruscica who welcomed baby Emily into the world on August 27th, right before the season began as well as Coach Fernandes, who welcomed in his twin girls, Isabella and Alyssa mid-way through the season on October 7th. At the time of this writing, Coach Bianchi was still anxiously awaiting the birth of his son, who was actually due on the day of the Championship final!) At the end of last season, things did not look optimistic after the senior team went 0-6 last year and 2-4 the year before. In August, the coaching staff was uncertain as to what to expect with the 2010 team, however once the team reported to training camp and the final roster was selected, any doubt the coaches may have had were quickly erased. The team started off the season quickly and dispatched most of their opponents with relative ease: Week 1: Week 2: Week 3: Week 4: Week 5: Week 6: Campion Bears 21 vs. Pocock Pirates 10 Bramalea Broncos 13 vs. Campion 52 Turner Fenton Trojans 0 vs. Campion 24 Harold Brathwaite Blizzard 0 vs. Campion 30 Robert Hall Wolfpack 12 vs. Campion 36 Campion 15 vs. Mayfield 16 The team finished the regular season with a very respectable 5-1 record and were able to lock up first place in their division before entering the playoffs. In the first round, the Bears met the Port Credit Warriors and beat them soundly with a final score of 39-6. During the semi-finals, the team played the Iona Dolphins and adopted the motto, ‖Squish the Fish‖. The Bears dominated their opponents and went on to beat them 29-7, to secure their spot in the final where they would face off against a power house Clarkson team. Clarkson, like the Bears, would also finish 1 st overall in their division and had actually remained undefeated all season long. The stage was set for an epic battle that would see both #1 seeds face off against each other in what promised to be an exciting final. The team was ready to go and went about their business of preparing for the showdown when tragedy struck. On Friday, November 12th, the father of one of the Bears players passed away tragically. Understandably, the team was distraught and were overcome with emotion for their brother-in-arms. The final game took on new meaning as many wished to dedicate the game to the family, who had always been OVERCOME such ardent supporters of the Campion Football program. The team decided to wear black ribbon decals with the word ―Overcome‖ emblazoned across it on their helmets to show their support. On Friday, November 19th, the Bears travelled to Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke, accompanied by 600 rabid fans. The game started off slowly for the Bears who found themselves trailing in the first half 14-7. In the 3rd quarter, the Chargers came out firing and scored another TD however, the convert was blocked by the long arms of 5 th year senior, Kwabena A. This missed point would eventually come back to haunt Clarkson as the Bears quickly responded with fury. Campion took the ball and in a nine-play drive, drove the ball down the length of the field and finally found the endzone. The 4 th quarter opened with the Bears down by 6 points. The Clarkson offense was relentless, however, the Bears stuck in and never gave up and shut down the team, who in the first half, seemed to march the ball upfield at will. Campion moved the ball well and with two minutes left, was able to get into the redzone and set up for an offensive drive that could potentially win the game. The Bears tried and tried again, but the Clarkson Defense held and shut the Bears down, only yards away from the endzone. After an incomplete pass, it seemed the Bears were done and their fabulous playoff run was over. Campion turned the ball over on downs but the game was far from over. The defense went out and absolutely shut the Clarkson O down, giving the Bears another shot at the endzone with less than 90 seconds left on the game clock. This time the Bears did not disappoint, and were able to punch the ball in with a run by 5 th year fullback, Marcellus K. Kicker Adam A. added the exclamation point on the TD by completing the point after and putting the Bears up 21-20. The team never gave up and in spite of trailing for most of the game, were still able to pull out the win and make history by capturing the school’s first ROPSSAA football title. Way to go Bears! 13 This year, The Bears success can be attributed to a number of factors. However, the greatest factor that is probably most responsible for why the senior team was so successful was our players. Every day for almost three months, the team showed dedication and discipline and practiced regardless of weather, for up to 3 hours a day. They all bought into the idea of a program and lived up to the ideals and expectations laid out before them. The coaching staff is extremely proud of the team’s success and many accomplishments and is looking forward to next season. With a record of 6-1 during the regular season, the team ended in first place in the Northwest Division. The girls then proceeded to the Tier 1 quarter finals losing a heartbreaker in overtime converts by the score of 1-0. With 42 teams participating in the sport, the team should be very proud of their accomplishment. Our Lady Bears fought hard throughout all of their games and each player contributed in their own way to the success of the team. The girls worked hard throughout their 11 week season to improve and fine tune their skills and abilities. Their dedication to the team was appreciated by their coaches. One very important highlight of the entire season was the Lady Bears charity work in conjunction with their ―Buy-out‖ game. Classes were able to attend the game if they brought in either $2 or $1 and 1 can of food. All food was to be donated back into the local community. This ―Buy-out‖ was a huge success as Campion students and staff pulled together to make a difference for the local community. Coaches Currah, Fournier, and Cerminara are very proud of the girls and would like to congratulate each one on them on an outstanding season: Nicole A., Diana B., Adjoa B., Claudia B., Chelsea C., Jennifer D., Rachel D., Liz D., Alyssa G., Dadrianna G., Debora G., Irene H., Dana H., Josephine I., Natalie K., Cinthia M., Kashawna M., Chanel N., Stephanie M., Kyanna S., Maria S., Shanelle S.
