GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS AND EVENTS PLANNING PROGRAM INFORMATION: The Office of Governmental Relations serves as WKU's liaison to local, state and federal governments, maintaining a presence in Frankfort, Kentucky, and in Washington, D.C. Western Kentucky University, a public institution, must be responsive to executive and legislative initiatives; the Office of Governmental Relations seeks to ensure that the institution's interests are safeguarded and its opportunities maximized. In fulfilling this mission, the Office advances WKU’s Strategic Plan, Challenging the Spirit, particularly Strategic Goal 4, “Improve the Quality of Life in Kentucky and Beyond,” and Strategic Goal 5, “Enhance the Financial, Physical, and Resource Capacities of the University.” The Office of Event Planning is responsible for all ceremonies and events hosted by the President of WKU as well as all campus and community events involving participation by Western Kentucky University. Events staff provides technical and logistical support for both internal and external groups utilizing campus facilities for events and activities and is responsible for the University's promotion and involvement in community events. Also included in this division is the WKU Welcome Center, which seeks to respond to the needs of WKU’s constituents by providing a central location on campus for alumni, visitors, prospective students and others seeking information and assistance.
