A. General Comments:
1. I did love the school counseling program. There were classes I absolutely loved! I do think it
would be helpful to students if there was move help with job placement after graduation. Once
you are done, there isn't much assistance. I also hope that in the future there would be elective
options for school counselors. The 1 week college counseling class is in the top 3 of helpful and
applicable classes I took. I am glad to see more actual school counselors in Practicum and
Internship classes as well!” (Fall 2011)
2. “Consultation and Psych & Achievement had little value to my development. Seemed very
community oriented.” (2010)
3. “As we move, please consider the parking issues. Also, school counseling track could benefit
from some additional elective courses for semesters, not summers.” (2010)
4. The overall quality of the classroom facilities is good to excellent reported “Problems with
computers. Need white projectors like in schools.”
5. Overall, the faculty is excellent and I feel better prepared. (2012)
6. I appreciate that faculty solicited student opinions about the possibility of adding another
required class specific to school counseling and decided to replace Curriculum Design with an
Advanced School Counseling class. I plan to return and take this course after I graduate. (2012)
7. I really appreciated the variety of workshops and electives that are offered in the summer. My
friends at other programs did not have so many choices. (2012)
8. I am glad I chose Xavier and would recommend the program to co-workers and friends. (2012).

Programatic Responses to Concerns Noted in Comments and/or Likert Scores:
A1 – Department faculty are discussing with Career Services Office how we can be of more assistance
with helping school counseling students get jobs. The past two years have been a tough job market for
most positions in education.
A1 - Over the past several years, we have expanded the number of elective options for school
counseling students. In addition to electives that have been offered for years (i.e. Counseling
Challenging Youth, Intro to REBT) we have also added the following: Intro to Play Therapy; Intermediate
Play Therapy; and Bullying, Homicide, and Suicide; Crisis Intervention in Schools, Treating Self-Injury,
Collaborative Problem Solving, and Intro to College Admissions Counseling.
A2/B1/A5- We have revamped Psych and Achievement Testing and Consultation and Supervision to
make these courses more relevant and practical for our School Counseling students.
A3/B3- Since moving to Hailstones, there are more parking options for students. Thus, students are able
to find parking but it often requires a longer walk. The university continues to explore various options to
make parking more assessable for graduate students and commuters.
A4 – Classroom technology and access to instructional support has improved since moving to Hailstones.
A6 – A new Advanced School Counseling course was created to replace Curriculum Design requirement.
Course will begin in 2012 and should be offered in Fall and Summer semesters.
