TIPS FOR PREPARING YOUR MONOLOGUE:
 Read over all the monologues for your gender and choose the one that you feel most
connected to.
 Look up any words that you do not know the meaning of and research any content that you
do not understand.
 Read the play.
 Detail information on the character – called a CHARACTER SKETCH.
 Figure out where the monologue takes place – called the SETTING.
 Delve into the world of the character and understand what they are experiencing and what
goals they are pursuing. The performance of a monologue is not just reciting the lines.
 Make sure that it is memorized. You will not be allowed to use your script in performance.
 Make sure that you use the space and include action in the presentation. Acting comes
from the word “action”, which means to do something!
 Your performance should be directed towards the people auditioning you, and make sure
that you look up so that they can see your face.
 You must be heard!!! So, project !
 Be prepared to answer questions about your choice and the play it is from.
