REMEMBRANCE DAY PRAYER
God our Father, your Son Jesus gave up His life to free us from the
power of sin and death.
He showed us that the greatest love is in giving up one’s life for others.
On November 11th, we remember those who fought and died for our
freedom. We ask you to bless and console them together with their
families.
Help us to understand the sacrifices they made in leaving their loved
ones to face the horrors of war. May we never forget their generosity.
May your Holy Spirit give us the courage to
resist evil in all its forms and show us how to
be peacemakers through prayer and action,
lest we forget those who fought, suffered
and died that we might have the freedom and
peace we enjoy today.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
VIRTUE FOR NOVEMBER
CONSCIENCE
May your virtue of conscience free us
to make decisions that serve the good
of all your people.
Amen

Criminal Reference Checks
Parents are reminded of the Ministry and Board
Policy that requires all volunteers to provide the
school with a valid (dated within the last six
months) Criminal Reference Check before they
can begin working with students. Parents who
have previously volunteered their time at Lester
B. Pearson Catholic Elementary School and have a
current CRC on file are required to complete an
Offence Declaration form before beginning their
duties at school. Screening is simply a process
designed to create and maintain a safe
environment. Any organization that provides
programs to vulnerable people (such as children)
has a moral, legal and spiritual obligation to
appropriately screen those who work with them,
including volunteers.
Screening is not only
the right thing to do,
it is legally required
under the principle of
“Duty of Care”.
Forms are available
at the office.

Junior Girls & Boys Volleyball
It has been a wonderful season for the Jr. Boys and Jr. Girls Volleyball
Teams! Both Jr. Boys and Jr. Girl’s teams won their min tournament to
advance to the Family Volleyball Championships. The girls played with
intensity and represented our school with honour placing 3rd in the
Brampton Northeast Volleyball Finals. The boy’s team efforts would
carry them to a 1st place finish at the Brampton Northeast
Volleyball Tournament. From this we would continue to the
boards and finish in 3rd place. Your coaches are very proud of all the
work and effort from our two teams. As with everything parents, we
here at Lester B. Pearson Catholic must
thank you for your support. It is a
partnership that we all volunteer our efforts
towards, providing a rich experience for
your children.
Go Eagles Go!
Thank you to our Coaches Mr. Bellizzi, and Ms. DeBuono.
‘Athletics’ Tab is located under Extra-Curricular on the
school website. We post information such as Tournament
times, locations, permission forms and standings.
SINCERE THANKS ARE ALSO
EXTENDED TO ALL OF THE PARENTS
WHO VOLUNTEERED TO DRIVE TEAM
MEMBERS TO AND FROM THE
TOURNAMENTS!
On Thursday October 22nd, 45 students from Lester B. Pearson Catholic attended the Brampton
Northeast’s Cross Country tournament. This sport is both challenging because of the different
terrain as well as the weather. The tournament would go well for our Eagles as the grade 4/5
girls’ team would place 2nd above all other schools attending and another 5 individuals would
qualify for the board level tournament. The boards where held at Centennial Park on Monday
October 26, 2015. Here students run with a third challenge; there are 7 first place finishers,
and second, and third all the way up to fifteenth (making this the Olympics of their sport).
Here our 10 runners would do well, improving on family tournament placing and experiencing
the event. Our best finishing for the day was 9 in races of 130 students. Cross country is a
sport of commitment, practicing 5 mornings a week, being outside all day for a competition,
knowing that what you are about to do is going to tax every part of your body. It is a true
sign of the heart and dedication that these students have to endure the requirements of this
sport. Thank you again parents, we here at Lester B. Pearson Catholic fully recognize where the heart of these students
come from as your children and we coaches applause your support.
Go Eagles Go!
Thank you to our Coaches Mr. Bellizzi, and Ms. DeBuono.

ecess breaks serve a special
purpose in the daily life of the school. Students are
expected to go outside for fresh air and exercise. If
your child is sick, please keep him/her at home until they
are well. This prevents the risk of your child spreading
their illness throughout the classroom. There is NO
indoor supervision at recess as staff are occupied
elsewhere or on duty outside.
e ask that students dress appropriately; i.e. coats,
gloves, mitts, boots etc.. Where possible please
put identification (your child’s initials) on your child’s
belongings. A great idea for our younger students is to
send an extra set of clothes for the “wet or muddy day
accidents”. If they are dressed warmly, they are better
prepared to participate in outdoor activities during recess
and noon hour. The heat has been turned on in the school
so layering the children’s clothing is a good idea.

CHILDREN NOT BAPTIZED
As a Roman Catholic School, we are charged by the
Catholic community and the Church to create an
atmosphere in which your child will be able to
experience and express our Catholic Faith. We also
assist the parishes with preparing students for
sacraments which are celebrated as a school
community with the local parishes. The Catholic Church has a program for
school-aged children which will assist you in baptizing your child. You are

APPLAUSE APPLAUSE!!!!
This year’s Nestle Chocolate Fundraiser was a
HUGE success!!!! Although numbers are still being
finalized, we can already tell that the Council bank
account will be adequate to carry us forward this
year. This is fantastic news and these funds will go
to providing EXTRA support for all the kids at
Lester B Pearson Catholic!
We are sending out a HUGE thank you to our school community for supporting
this fundraiser. It is the only fundraiser that School Council runs, therefore this is
the only money we have to work with. Without it, many extra items such as
classroom games, Play Day Ice Cream, Student Agendas and various teams support
and author visits would not happen!
Way to go LPBCS!!!!
Our winner’s lunch for top sellers and draw winners will be held November
3rd. The 15 children and Staff supervisors will be chauffeured to McDonald’s by a
stretch hummer limo! We would like to thank our sponsors; Good Time Limousine
and McDonald’s (Queen and 410).
Please support our FANTASTIC SPONSERS who always make sure the kids have a
great time!!

FRENCH IMMERSION INFORMATION MEETING
Senior Kindergarten parent(s)/guardian(s), who wish to enroll their child in a
Grade 1 French Immersion Program at Our Lady of Providence, St. Joachim or
St. Angela Merici for September, 2016 are invited to attend an information
meeting:
November 11, 2015
7:00 pm—8:00 pm
Held at: St. Angela Merici, 83 Edenbrook Hill Drive, Brampton
Dufferin-Peel offers the French Immersion Program starting in Grade 1 at eight school sites. Students registered in
this program will spend 90% of their day learning in the French language. All subjects and activities in the French
Immersion classroom, except for Religion and Family Life, will be delivered in French. In Grades 2 and 3, 70% of the
instruction will be in French, with the proportion of English increasing to 50% in later years.
Students in the French Immersion Program usually attain a mid-range level of competency in the language. This
means that after at least 4,510 hours of French instruction during his/her school career, the student should be able to
read newspapers and books, with the occasional help of a dictionary, as well as watch and understand radio and
television news and other programs. The student should also be able to participate adequately in conversation,
demonstrate knowledge of the culture, society, customs, economy, government, institutions of a French-speaking
community and, after a few months’ residence, and function quite well in a French-speaking community.
Online registration will begin following the French Immersion parent information sessions with the deadline for
submissions to be announced. Should the number of applications exceed the number of spaces available, a
centralized, computer-generated lottery will be held following the deadline.

The Green
Committee
Presents… The
Green Corner!!
The GREEN TEAM, or Eco-Eagles, is up and
running again for another year! This year’s
members are excited and ready to find new ways to decrease our
footprint on the planet!
As a member of the Ontario Eco-Schools, our school achieved a Silver
status certification last year for all of our efforts. Some of these
included the consistent use of Goose (good on one side) paper, collecting
almost 2000 milk bags for the “Mats for Ebola” campaign, using recycled
materials for Christmas decorations, and Trash-less Thursday’s.
But our work is not done! If we want to achieve GOLD status, we will
have to work just as hard this year! Throughout the year, we will
implement many strategies and ideas from the students as to how we can
improve our school’s energy consumption and waste reduction. By year
end we will take another audit to measure our success.
There are a lot of great initiatives in the works … some of the upcoming
plans are:
- Light’s off Lunches
- walk to school day
- a school wide energy audit
- visits from the City of Brampton and the Toronto Region Conservation
Authority.
For more information on this program, please visit
ontarioecoschools.org.

A pop tab for wheel chairs
is back. Last year was another great success and
we were able to surpass
the previous years' collection! Congratulations LBP! Let's continue to collect, help
and build support for our community. We
appreciate all your help. LBPCES we will be
starting to collect pop tabs for wheel
chairs from November to June and we know
that we can surpass last year’s donations.
Here's how it works:
1. Drink a can of pop (or juice or iced tea or
maybe a specialty drink) **Please No Colour
tab such as red or green, only silver ones**
2. Remove the tab by bending it back and
forth or twisting it a little.
3. Pop the tab into a container or bag.
4. Once the bag gets full bring it to class
and place in your class container or the
grey bucket out front of the main office.
