National Science Foundation (NSF) Improving Undergraduate STEM
Education (IUSE) to improve Undergraduate math Education to address
immediate challenges and opportunities that are facing STEM students in their
success at Hartnell and in the Math courses after they transfer. Professor Yahdi is
leading a team from the Math department. Up to $600k over 3 years.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Research in Undergraduate
Institutions (RUI) Professor Fan is working on a proposal to the Particle
Astrophysics program through the Physics Division solicitation.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math (S-STEM) The proposal will build on needs analyses, be
managed by a project team including a faculty member currently teaching in a
STEM discipline, a STEM administrator and a researcher. At least 60% of the funds
must support scholarships to low-income academically talented students with
demonstrated financial needs. $1M over five years.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education
(ATE) The project proposes to train students at the certificate and associate
degree level in the fields of Ag Production Food Safety and Seed Science Technician
including relevant STEM core competencies that allow workers to transition across
a variety of Ag and STEM careers. $300k per year for 3 years.
CalFresh Employment & Training (E&T) with Monterey County
Department of Social Services. Many of the County's Non Assistance CalFresh
recipients are in Hartnell District. USDA funding for textbooks, transportation, child
care, career counseling, peer advising, academic tutoring, career workshops, case
management, unpaid work-based learning, job readiness-search-placementretention, sector initiates, program administration, planning and evaluation. County
partnership would provide CalFresh eligibility/enrollment services. Match 1:1
Monterey County Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL) - working with the Monterey County
Workforce Investment Board (WIB) to list Hartnell College programs and courses
(Nursing and Allied Health, Advanced Technology, Social and Behavioral Sciences
and Art) so that eligible customers of the America's Job Center can utilize training
and support funds from the Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA).
California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office - Cooperating Agencies
Foster Youth Educational Support Program (CAFYES) To strengthen capacity
to support higher education success, health and well-being of current and former
foster youth. Funds to be provided through Extended Opportunity Programs and
Services (EOPS) program. Team determined that Hartnell did not have the number
of foster youth to support a competitive proposal based on the CAFYES criteria.
US Department of Education - High School Equivalency Program (HEP) to
assists migrant farmworkers and their families attain their high school equivalency
and transition to higher education, vocational/technical training, military, or
improved employment. The program has been at Hartnell since 2006 and has
continually met the target of graduating at least 70% of students every year.
US Department of Education - TRIO - Talent Search - Talent Search, one of
eight TRIO programs, assists students between the ages of 11-27 from
disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education.
Provides academic, career and financial counseling encouraging participants to
graduate from high school and complete their postsecondary education.

Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program (HSI). The HSI Program provides
grants to assist HSIs to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the

research, community dialogues, performance, film, new media technologies, and

The California Endowment (TCE) - Salinas Valley Health Professions
Pathways Partnership (SVHPPP), previously known as the Alisal Health
Professions Workforce pathways Partnership (AHPWPP), continues the investment of
TCE with Hartnell College and the East Salinas Building Healthy Communities
initiative. The new grant is for $1.5M over two years and supports a collaborative of
key stakeholders committed to increasing and sustaining a "locally grown" and
"locally prepared" allied health workforce to supply regional demand by replacing the
pipeline to prison with a pipeline to school and career.

movement in Monterrey County through the development of the script “One More
Day’ an original work by a local playwright centered on bracero stories. The Western
Stage will partner with local community organizations to bring the play to the
community in nontraditional settings relevant to bracero history.
Pebble Beach Foundation – NASA SEMAA Youth Program focuses on the
underserved, low income, minority Latino students from Kindergarten through 12th
grade in Monterey County, specifically students below grade eight and in the Alisal
community located in East Salinas where the SEMAA site is located.
S.T.A.R. Foundation – Professional equipment and enrichment for Choir
Programs. Hartnell College Choir and the community will benefit from professional
sound equipment, K-12 outreach transportation, and enrichment activities.
