National Science Foundation (NSF) Improving Undergraduate STEM
Education (IUSE) The Integrated Math Access, Success, Transfer and
Engagement Resources (iMASTER) project will transform 100 students at a critical
stage of their college education through: 1) MAP Extended Math Academy
workshops for Calculus students; 2) PaTTH Pathways in Transformative
Transistions; 3) INSPIRE Integrated Network of Sustained, Persistent and Inspiritng
Resources and Engagements; and 4) SHARRE Share Hartnell Achievement and
Research Results in Education. $300k over 3 years.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Research in Undergraduate
Institutions (RUI) The Salinas Airshower Learning And Discovery (SALAD)
project will educate, engage and equip 12 high achieving community college
students for today’s knowledge intensive stem related opportunities, and will
advance the knowledge in cosmic ray detector instrumentation through hands-on
research at Hartnell College. Professor Fan has received a faculty innovation award
and an American Institute of Physics, Megger’s Project Award for outreach to high
schools and other related components of this research. $167k over three years.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Scholarships in Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math (S-STEM) The Salinas Talented And Rising STEM
Students (STARSS) program will result in awarding 80 fellowships of up to
$10,000 per year to students who will achieve a milestone toward, or receive, an
associate degree and/or transfer to a baccalaureate degree program. 60% of the
funds support scholarships to low-income academically talented students with
demonstrated financial needs. $1M over five years.
National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education
(ATE) Meeting Current and future Challenges: Expanding Ag Sciences
Technician Training proposes to improve the STEM pipeline, integrate new
technologies, and train students at the certificate and associate degree level in the
fields of Ag Production Food Safety and Seed Science Technician including relevant
STEM core competencies that allow workers to transition across a variety of Ag and
STEM careers. By year three, the project will achieve the capacity to enroll 35
students annually in each new program; achieve an 80% persistence rate, and
engage 125 high school students per year. $300k per year for 3 years.
CalFresh Employment & Training (E&T) with Monterey County
Department of Social Services. Many of the County's Non Assistance CalFresh
recipients are in Hartnell District. USDA funding for textbooks, transportation, child
care, career counseling, peer advising, academic tutoring, career workshops, case
management, unpaid work-based learning, job readiness-search-placementretention, sector initiates, program administration, planning and evaluation. County
partnership would provide CalFresh eligibility/enrollment services. Match 1:1
Monterey County Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL) - working with the Monterey County
Workforce Investment Board (WIB) to list Hartnell College programs and courses
(Nursing and Allied Health, Advanced Technology, Social and Behavioral Sciences
and Art) so that eligible customers of the America's Job Center can utilize training
and support funds from the Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA).

eight TRIO programs, assists students between the ages of 11-27 from
disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education.
Provides academic, career and financial counseling encouraging participants to
graduate from high school and complete their postsecondary education.
NASA Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) to
create and implement a NASA MUREP Aerospace Academy (MAA) to increase
participation and retention of historically underserved and underrepresented K-12 youth
in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Objectives
are to: 1) increase number of underrepresented students interested STEM careers; 2)
provide skills to parents/caregivers to encourage children in STEM activities; 3) involve
community groups, business, and organizations; and 4) engage students in activities,
advanced technology, peer support groups, and mentoring relationships.

research, community dialogues, performance, film, new media technologies, and
interdisciplinary approaches within Theatre and Cinema, Ethnic Studies, Sociology,

Pathways Partnership (SVHPPP), previously known as the Alisal Health
Professions Workforce pathways Partnership (AHPWPP), continues the investment of
TCE with Hartnell College and the East Salinas Building Healthy Communities
initiative. The new grant is for $1.5M over two years and supports a collaborative of
key stakeholders committed to increasing and sustaining a "locally grown" and
"locally prepared" allied health workforce to supply regional demand by replacing the
pipeline to prison with a pipeline to school and career.

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) - to support exploration of the bracero
movement in Monterrey County through the development of the script “One More
Day’ an original work by a local playwright centered on bracero stories. The Western
Stage will partner with local community organizations to bring the play to the
community in nontraditional settings relevant to bracero history.
Pebble Beach Foundation – NASA SEMAA Youth Program focuses on the
underserved, low income, minority Latino students from Kindergarten through 12th
grade in Monterey County, specifically students below grade eight and in the Alisal
community located in East Salinas where the SEMAA site is located.
S.T.A.R. Foundation – Professional equipment and enrichment for Choir
Programs. Hartnell College Choir and the community will benefit from professional
sound equipment, K-12 outreach transportation, and enrichment activities.
Requested: $26,726. Funded $2,960 plus $5,000 matching grant (August 1,
2015)
Community Foundation Monterey County – The Innovation Lab will be housed
at the Alisal Center and serve students and community members, encouraging
