About Academics Menu Athletics Students Home Goal 6A Plan and Progress Strategic Priority 6 ­ Partnerships with Industry, Business Agencies & Education Goal 6A: Hartnell College is committed to strengthening and furthering its current partnerships and to establishing new partnerships, in order to secure lasting, mutually beneficial relationships between the college and the community that the college serves. Maintain existing and develop additional college pathways for non­traditional students to include GED preparation and partnerships. 3. Sustain existing and grow capacity for contract and community education 4. Strengthen existing partnerships and create new partnerships with public and private colleges and universities. 5. Continue to increase the quantity and quality of internships and work­based experiences for students. 6. Strengthen existing and establish new initiatives and collaborative relationships. Progress: 1. Hired K­12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Initiatives Director to oversee, coordinate and expand partnerships with k­12 partners to create a pipeline of future STEM students at Hartnell College. 2. Held two major stakeholder workshops to prepare for a new 2­year work plan and a 1.5 million dollar grant for the Salinas Valley Health Professions Pathway Program (previously known as Alisal Health Professions Workforce Pathways Partnership) that includes funding for “backbone” positions including a manager and a coordinator for the partnership. New partnerships with UC Berkeley and Stanford University are being developed as well as deepening the work with the elementary schools to build a strong health care workforce for the valley and the region. 3. Hartnell was awarded a 3 year grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration which will support the MUREP Aerospace Academy (previously Science, Engineering, Math and Aerospace Academy). The NASA program at Hartnell has grown from 150 k­12 students to over 5,000 students in 4 years. 4. Strengthened relationship between Hartnell College High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and Clinica de Salud del Valle, Mission Trails Regional Occupational Programs, and Center for Employment Training. Providing community education through Foster Kinship, and contract education in Agriculture through Food Safety Summit. 6. Associate degrees for transfer increased to 18. 7. Started third cohort for CSin3 with California State University Monterey Bay. 8. Continued success with allied health and nursing residencies and clinical placements, as well as over 115 summer research internships. 9. Deputy Sector Navigator and faculty involvement in Software Development Enhanced Directory and Guide for Education to help match training to workforce need for the Information and Digital Technology industry. 10. Hartnell College Director of K­12 STEM Initiatives involvement in student and community outreach at the Salinas Airshow STEM Runway. 11. The new President’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Task Force has met 5 times and is under the leadership of Chair, Teresa Matsui Sanders. It’s mission is to create a pipeline of skilled thinkers and workers to support an innovative STEM based economy. Focus is on the demand for STEM talent in our local industries, the role that Hartnell College will play in meeting that demand, and the resources needed to achieve our mission. 12. The college regularly convenes industry steering committees for Agriculture, Nursing and Allied Health, and Construction.
