What is Love?
April, 2016
The Lord is my shepherd,
there is nothing I shall want.
Amen
Principal’s Message
Spring is in the air and the warmer weather reminds us of new life and new beginnings. We are
so blessed to belong to the family of God. When
we look at the work of our hands, our feet and
our hearts, we can encounter the Risen One,
Jesus Christ. Jesus suffered, died and arose on
the third day so that our sins would be forgiven.
We proclaim the good news of Jesus with joy
and hope as we live a life of compassion, faith,
love, hope, justice respect, dignity and peace.
Our school Easter mass is on April 8th at
9:15am. We invite all family and friends to come
and celebrate the Risen Christ with us as a faithfilled community.
School Hours:
9:00am – 3:30pm
Recess 10:25– 10:40
Lunch 12:00 – 1:00

Why practice Love?
During the week of April 10-16th, we also celebrate National Volunteer Week. I would like to
take this opportunity to thank the parent volunteers who contribute their time, talents and
energy to enhance the academic, spiritual and
social aspects of our school. Your willingness to
support our staff and students has a powerful
impact on our school environment.
Do you want to live in a peaceful world?
Do you want to experience the love of
God in all things and allow others to experience God’s love through you? Everyone
has the need to be loved and the ability to
love. No one is perfect, not me, not you,
not anyone else. No matter what you dislike about others, it is of vital importance
that you value others - just as they are
right now. For by doing so, that is how we
create peace within our own hearts. You
will be able to embrace and love the
world.
God Bless,
How do you practice Love?
Mrs. Boulanger
Express your love. Find words and actions
of love that are appropriate. You need to
speak words of blessing rather than criticisms. Practicing love means to share your
resources with a needy person, participate
in your community of faith, offer gifts and
perform actions or deeds with no ulterior
motivation.

Love is caring for someone. It is wanting to be
near those you care about
and wanting to share everything with them
because they mean so much to you. Love
is a feeling that fills your heart. “Love is
patient and kind; love is not jealous or
boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love
does not insist on its own way; it is not
irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at
wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears
all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things.”1 Corinthians

EQAO Update
The grade 3 and 6 EQAO assessments measure how well students have met the expectations in the Ontario Curriculum
Grades 1-8. The assessments test what students know and how
well they apply their knowledge and skills in reading, writing and
mathematics by requiring students to read and respond to passages, to write and to solve mathematical problems. The results
are reported in terms of achievement from levels 1-4 with level 3
as the standard.
The window for EQAO assessments of all grade 3 and 6 students
of 2015/2016 has been established for (Grade 3– May 25-27 and
Grade 6– May 31, June1-2) Please keep this important time
frame in mind when you are planning family trips or appointments.
It is important that all grade 3 and 6 students be in attendance for
the assessments. For further details on our school results, improvement plans or student on the provincial assessments visit

On March 23, 2016 the students at St. Edith Stein School
participated in our fourth annual
ROLL OUT THE QUARTERS event.
During the season of Lent, our students focused on prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Our students were asked to
earn quarters reflecting their commitment to being contributing family members.
Throughout the day, classes were invited to line up all the
quarters they earned during Lent on class strips of tape in
the gymnasium. All proceeds were donated to Share Life .
The class with the longest line was Mrs. Cerminara’s class.
Congratulations to Patricia L. who won
Principal for a

and fear of the Lord). THE GIFTS ARE SEALED WITHIN
US AT CONFIRMATION.
BE BLESSED, ABUNDANTLY, MIRACULOUSLY BLESSED!
OOPS…..I’M LATE AGAIN!
We have been noticing more and more parents picking up
their children well after the bell. Please note that the bell
sounds at 3:30pm and it is expected that parents/
caregivers are at school for pick up at that time. It seems
that the same students are waiting for rides well after the
bell at the end of each day. This often upsets younger students. Students who are not picked up are directed back
to the office.
If you find you cannot be here for 3:30pm please make
other daycare arrangements for your children.
Thank you in advance for being punctual.

Class Placements for September 2016
The staff will soon begin the process of appropriate
class placement for each student for the upcoming
school year. When building a class, many factors are
considered in the decisions to develop heterogeneous
groupings such as balance of abilities, gender,
learning style and social blending.
As you know your child best, we appreciate your input
concerning particular needs for your son or daughter.
If you have concerns regarding your child’s class
placement for September 2016, please submit the
enclosed letter to the office by May 5, 2016 indicating
the type of learning environment in which your child
has experienced the most success. Please do not
make a specific request for teachers as staffing is always tentative and changes can take place between
the tentative class placement and the first day of
school. We will consider your input as well as input
from the classroom teachers and, if we can accommodate your requests, we will do so. However, this is
not always possible and we ask for your understanding and flexibility. Rest assured our decisions are
made only after careful consideration of all the information and are based on the individual good of each
child balanced with the common good of the entire
school community.

Kindergarten students re-enacting the
Last Supper.
We are now hopefully past the
season of freezing temperatures
and blowing snow, however, we still ask that you ensure your
child is appropriately dressed for the weather conditions of the
day. While April showers may bring May flowers, they can also
bring wet footwear and dripping outerwear. We respectfully ask
that your child continues to have indoor shoes at school and
dress in warm clothing for those brisk spring days.
Criminal Offence Declaration 2016
If you have had a Criminal Reference Check in the past
year to two years—and we have a copy on file at the
school - you only need a Criminal Offence Declaration
(COD), which is signed in the presence of a staff member and is valid for the entire school year. Please see
the office staff for more information. If you would like
to volunteer on any level with students here at the
school, you are required to have Criminal Reference
Check. All parents accompanying students on field trip
or driving students to sports events must have a valid
COD . Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
CHESS
