Isaac Fox School Lake Zurich, IL February 19, 2015 Volume 1, Issue 5 Gregoire Gazette What a Month! We have been busy here at Isaac Fox! In January, we began our new year by hosting our annual Spelling Bee. This year was different as only 4th and 5th grade students participated in the bee, with 3rd grade students being recognized as the winner of the classroom bees. There were many rousing rounds full of suspense. Congratulations to our 2015 Spelling Bee Winners, and all of our students who put in the time and effort to study and prepare for the big day! It was truly a spectacular event! Our3rd -5th grade students also had a wonderful opportunity to listen to and interact with author Liesl Shurtliff during her visit to Isaac Fox. She talked about the reasons why she decided to write Fairy Tales, and gave the students an introduction to the history of the genre. It was a fascinating presentation, and one the students truly enjoyed! Illinois 5Essentials Survey Beginning January 12, you have had the opportunity to participate in the 3rd annual 5Essentials Survey. The 5Essentials survey provides a detailed look at the learning climate of the school your child attends. In order for our school to receive a report, we must have at least 20% of our parents participate in the survey. We currently have 4% participation. Please take some time prior to March 13th to participate in the survey. It only takes about 5 minutes to share your thoughts. To take the survey please visit https://survey.5essentials.org/Illinois-pilot/ and select the “Parent” survey to begin. Calendar of Events PARCC Test In 2010, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) adopted new learning standards for English language arts and mathematics. The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) system of assessment is designed to assess each student’s mastery of these new English language arts and mathematics learning standards using new types of questions and technology-enhanced questioning. The PARCC assessment replaces the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT). The PARCC assessment testing windows will be from Monday, March 2, to Thursday, April 2, for the Performance-Based Assessment (PBA). The testing window for the end of year (EOY) portion of the assessment will be from Monday, April 27, to Friday, May 22. The PARCC system aligns college and career readiness expectations from kindergarten through grade 12. Additionally, the PARCC assessments seek to measure whether or not students have the academic knowledge and skills necessary to succeed after high school. The test is administered via a computer and has many features designed to assist with the ease of use. Since this is the first administration of the PARCC test nationwide, the results will need to be examined to establish cut-scores, normative standards, and national percentiles. These statistical processes will take some time to complete and student results are not expected prior to November, 2015, to ensure accuracy of this work. In coming years, because this work has been completed, results are likely to be available either at the end of the year or early summer. For additional information regarding the PARCC test, please visit our Isaac Fox home page. Student of the Month Congratulations to our February Student of the Month, Gianna B! She always puts forth her best effort, and exemplifies good citizenship. We are so proud of all of your hard work! Ongoing Kindergarten Registration Can you believe it? It’s already time to register your 5 year old little one(s) to enroll in kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year! Please stop by Isaac Fox on regular school days to pick up your registration packet. Don’t forget to remind your friends with school age kids to register their little ones too! Drop- Off Procedures For the safety of our students, please be reminded that all car pool students should be dropped off in front of MSS. Please do not pass cars as students are exiting or entering the car as it is very dangerous and one of our students could be seriously injured. Cold Weather This is just a friendly reminder that our students go outside every day for recess as long the temperature and wind chill are above zero degree Fahrenheit. Therefore, please remember to dress your child ready for the weather each every day. They should come with hats, mittens, boots, scarves, snow pants, winter jackets, and any other layers necessary for them to stay warm. Thanks for your help!
