Pastoral Plan 2015-2016 PASTORAL PLAN School Name: School Mission Statement: The Mission of Father Daniel Zanon Catholic School is to ensure our children receive a Catholic education that is rich in both academic excellence and Christian values. As educators, we must seek and create a secure, warm, welcoming and safe environment, which is conducive to developing the maximum potential of each child. Father Daniel Zanon Catholic School has established itself in this community as a center of learning, where our faith is practised daily and students are challenged to grow in the image of Christ. This is possible due to the collaborative effort of our staff, our students, our parents, our trustee, our parish community and our board officials. It continues to be our goal to encourage our children to acquire the values, beliefs and knowledge that will allow them to grow in Christ as they journey from the early years to vocation. Message from the Catholic School Council: The Catholic School Council meetings start with prayer. The decisions and guidance of CSC is motivated by students’ growth in the Image of Jesus Christ. Each member seeks pastoral guidance through the Holy Spirit. The council direction is captured in the prayer by parish patron Saint Catherine of Siena: Holy Spirit, come into my heart; draw it to Thee by Thy power, O my God, and grant me charity with filial fear. Preserve me, O ineffable Love, from every evil thought; warm me, inflame me with Thy dear love, and every pain will seem light to me. My Father, my sweet Lord, help me in all my actions. Jesus, love, Jesus, love. Amen. Page 4 of 7 Pastoral Plan 2015-2016 Focus on one of the OCGE each month and incorporate in cross-curricular instruction. Celebrating Virtues: A virtue is a habit or established capacity to perform good actions according to a moral standard. When we practice these virtues we strengthen them and thereby make the presence of God more and more visible in the world around us. Focus on one virtue per month through morning prayers and announcements and in classroom programs. Classes organize monthly virtue assemblies. Our music group creates a monthly virtue song. Selected children from each class receive a virtue certificate. Their group picture is taken and displayed in our front hallway. Visible Signs of our Faith: Through symbol and service, we are instruments of God’s love whose work within our communities stands as a witness to our faith. Our chapel provides a welcoming place for prayer and quiet reflection for children and staff. Often teachers choose to have their Religion and Family Life lessons in the chapel. Each classroom has a prayer table. Each room in the school has a crucifix. Statue of Our Lady in the front entranceway. Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations displayed in the front entranceway.
