Loving God,
as a mother gives life and nourishment to her
children,
so you watch over your Church.
Bless these women,
that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers.
Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, their sons and daughters,
may honor them always
with a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

NO SCHOOL FOR
STUDENTS
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Sunday, May 1st marked the beginning of
Catholic Education Week. The school has
several activities planned throughout the
week. Please try to join us for parent
visits on Thursday and our ShareLife
Walk-a-thon/Dance-a-thon on Friday,
May 6th.
Every blessing is with our Grade 2
students who received their First Holy
Communion on April 30th. It was a
wonderful and moving celebration of our
sacramental life.
May is dedicated to the devotion of Our
Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is the
mother of our Church. We will celebrate
the Crowning of Our Lady on Friday, May
6th @ 9:30 am. Please join us.
On behalf of everyone in our school
community, I extend our warmest wishes
to all of our mothers. Happy Mother’s
Day! You look after all of us!
I will take this opportunity to let you
know that I have been transferred to
Guardian Angels Catholic Elementary
School effective September 2016. Please
join me in welcoming, Joanne Golla, the
new principal of Father Daniel Zanon.
I cannot tell you how much I have
enjoyed my years at Father Daniel Zanon.
You have been a tremendously warm and
supportive community. Your children are
absolutely incredible – a direct reflection
of loving and faithful families.
With my gratitude, A Reilly

to school, he/she must report to the office to
sign-in prior to going to class
SchoolTardiness
Tardiness
School
It is an expectation that students are to be on time for all classes and events and
arrive to school prepared for learning. According to research, attending school
regularly and being on time, are deemed to be two of the most important keys to
student success. The second school term has started. Through observation and
school records, it is apparent that some of our students are arriving to school
late. Students who arrive late miss important opening announcements, the
beginning of their morning classes, and may also cause a distraction for their
classmates and teachers. So when students are late, they miss out on not only
their own learning opportunities, but also may interfere with the learning
opportunities of their classmates. School classrooms, with an increased
emphasis on interactive learning and participation, make missed time more
difficult and often impossible to make up. Successful efforts to address this
concern will involve a good relationship between the school and home in order
to place our students on the path to educational success and well-being. As part
of a school-wide strategy, in order to foster a culture of on-time attendance,
students who demonstrate improvement will be recognized through various
incentives (e.g., certificates, “sunshine” notes, stickers…). Please help us to
eliminate any future tardiness. By working together in partnership, we can
achieve this goal.
We may share biological
families or national identity or
cultural and ethnic identity but
we are all very unique and
distinct creations. God breaks
the mold every time!
Kiss ‘n’ Ride Reminders: The Kiss ‘n’ Ride lane is for drop-off/pick-up ONLY. You
CANNOT park your vehicle in this lane. The Kiss ‘n’ Ride lane is the ONLY place where
drop-off/pick-up can occur. Vehicles are not permitted to park in the driveway or bus
lane of the school. Please use the parking lot if you intend to park. Thank you for your
continued cooperation.
The virtue of acceptance
describes our ability to look at
the attitudes and actions of
those around us and consider
each person without judging
them. The virtue of acceptance
means that we look beyond a
person’s skin colour, ethnic
background, religion, age,
gender or sexual orientation
and see each person as created
and loved by God.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated!

Movie Night at Father Daniel Zanon
On April 8th we had well over 100 members of the Father Daniel Zanon
community gather with us at the school for a night of popcorn and “The Good
Dinosaur” movie!
The community gathered in our gymnasium to watch the movie. A great time
was had by all.
A big thank you to the student and parent volunteers who assisted in
preparations for the event, as well as to our Catholic School Council for
organizing this community building event!
Sacramental Preparation
Crowning of Mary -- Liturgical Celebration
On May 6th @ 9:30 a.m., our school community will gather to celebrate the
Crowning of Mary through prayer and Liturgy of the Word. This special event in
the life of the Catholic Church recognizes Mary as the mother of Jesus Christ, our
King and Saviour. By virtue of her Immaculate Conception, Mary is our Queen.
Bullying Awareness & Prevention -- May
Students learn key messages and strategies to recognize and prevent bullying in the
school and beyond. For the month of May the key message is “Bullying is NOT a normal
part of growing up.” Through various activities, students will learn to understand the
difference between conflict and bullying and discuss appropriate ways to report bullying.
We encourage parents to visit http://www.peelregion.ca/health/bullying/ to support your
son/daughter’s development in this regard.
Parishioners of St. Catherine

Youth Faith Ambassadors Holding a Food Drive
WE ARE OFFICIALLY REGISTERED!
The Father Daniel Zanon Youth Faith Ambassadors are reaching out to help the
Mississauga Food Bank.
From May 2-12 we will be collecting items such as NEW, UNOPENED non-perishable
food and also toiletries to donate.
We are aiming for over 300 pounds or 136 kgs of food.
Here are some of the most needed items:
canned fish and meat
fruit (canned, applesauce, dried fruit)
canned vegetables (low sodium)
healthy grains & rice
We can also include personal care items such as toothpaste, toilet paper, dish soap,
body soap, shampoo, etc.
Thank you for helping us live the Gospel of Matthew 25: 35,40.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, … “The King will reply,
‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters
of mine, you did for me.’
Ice Dawgs for ShareLife
Starting after the Victoria Day weekend, office staff will be selling Ice Dawgs for
$2.00 each. The Ice Dawgs will be sold each afternoon at 2:00 p.m. prior to recess.
Sales will take place until the middle of June. All proceeds will go to ShareLife.
Eco Dragonz Newsletter for May
The Zanon Eco-Dragonz have been busy working
hard this past month and definitely embraced the
spirit of April being Earth Month! Our Eco Dragonz
have been monitoring classroom practices to
encourage the whole school to remember that
simple actions can make a big impact on our
environment. Through our CLASS ECO
CHALLENGE, classes have been earning points for
creating less garbage, good recycling habits,
efficient energy use, and using reusable water
bottles. The class with the most points will be
awarded a pizza lunch. The winning class will be
announced during Catholic Education Week.
As a school community, we celebrated April 22,
2016 EARTH DAY with a liturgy that reminded us of
our call to take care of God’s creation. This was
followed by an excellent dramatization that was
written and performed by our EcoDragonz: Athena,
Viktorija, Julia, Kayleigh, Richelle, Isabella, and
Yeshua. After the assembly, we all appreciated our
EARTH with some extra outdoor time!
We will continue to collect milk bags to help
support St. Margaret of Scotland’s drive to create
sleeping mats. Please remember to bring your
bags in! Just be sure to turn them inside out,
make sure it’s clean and dry with a reusable dish
towel. We will also be collecting nonrechargeable batteries to be properly disposed of
until the end of May. Putting these in regular
garbage does serious damage to our ecosystems!
Lastly, our Eco Dragonz will be supporting our
Catholic School Council during our spring clothing
and household drive during May 16-27th. While
you may be starting your spring cleaning,
remember items that are gently used CAN be put
in bags and dropped off at the school to help
others in our community, INSTEAD of filling our
landfills!
Thank you again for supporting our ECO goals and
remember, WE CAN MAKE EVERY DAY EARTH
Sub Days for Autism Awareness
Father Daniel Zanon will be having two sub days: one on May 18th and the other
on June 8. Information and order forms will be sent out on May 2nd. All proceeds
will go to Autism Ontario.
