In this season of Advent, inspire us to be people of hope.
Encourage us not to be greedy for material possessions, but for
justice and truth.
Enflame us with a love for others, which crosses boundaries
of race, religion and nationality.
Stir within us an appreciation of the immense beauty of the earth.
Be with us, Lord, at this time, that we may be a people of
hope. Amen.

Virtue of the Month - Hope
This month we celebrate the virtue of hope. We believe that God comes to us a
real human who can show us the way of life.
In December we
celebrate the Virtue
of Hope
People of hope keep a positive attitude, can bounce back from tough situations,
set and stick to their goals, see the good in others even when they make mistakes,
work to include others and let others know that they are good people.
A Person of Hope…




Is inspired and inspires others
Always counts on God to help them in tough situations
Trusts that things will work out in God’s way
Is someone who sees the good in the world and others
Let us pray for the grace and courage to be people of hope-people who can see,
participate in and contribute to God’s goodness emerging around us.
*Our Virtue of Hope Assembly will be on Friday, December 18th at 2:20 p.m. All
parents are welcome.

Eco-Friendly Christmas
It’s the month of December and
Christmas is coming! Although
Christmas is a time to celebrate by
decorating Christmas trees and
wrapping gifts, all this packaging
and paper takes its toll on the
earth. This season, amidst all of
the commotion, we need to
remember the three R’s (Reduce,
Re-use, Recycle) more than ever.
One way we can be more ecoCONSCIENCE is to use recycled
paper or reusable fabric to wrap
your gifts instead of paper. To
save trees and reduce future
waste, try re-using the blank side
of old Christmas cards to make
handmade gift tags, or make
ornaments and decorations using
pinecones.
We would also like to remind you
all about boomerang lunches (bring
back all your organic waste and use
reusable containers).
We will
return to monitoring Wasteless
Wednesdays and T.O.T.L (turn off
the lights!) Fridays in the New
Year.

The Power of Pink
Pink ribbons adorned trees in the front of Father Daniel Zanon school to
mark the week of November 16th to 20th – Dufferin-Peel’s Bullying
Awareness and Prevention campaign. In an effort to heighten awareness
of anti-bullying and promote a culture of care, respect and inclusion,
students at Father Daniel Zanon, participated in a wide variety of events
throughout the week. Activities included a kick-off assembly, pink day,
teacher read aloud day (books about bullying), “Put the Bully to Bed”
pyjama day, a R.O.C.K. Out Bullying Concert, skits, morning
announcements, a student created rap and a minute of silence. Thank you
to our Catholic School Council for sponsoring this event.

Student Transportation
Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR) Student Transportation of Peel
Region (STOPR) is a consortium, formed by agreement between the Dufferin-Peel
Catholic District School Board and the Peel District School Board, for the purpose of
providing a common administration of transportation services for students residing
in the Region of Peel. The STOPR website provides access to up-to-date information
regarding delayed buses as well as bus cancellations due to inclement weather. This
website also contains transportation policies, procedures, forms and frequently
asked questions. Additionally, there is also a link from this website to
businfo.stopr.ca which provides information as to school of attendance and
eligibility for transportation. For more information, visit http://www.stopr.ca/.
As you are aware, during the winter months inclement weather may cause disruption
of bus transportation and regular school operations. A decision to cancel school
transportation and/or to close schools is usually made by 6:00 a.m. and will be
announced on the board website and the following radio stations:
CKFM
CFNY
CHIN
CFRB
CHUM
CJCL
CHAY
Q107
DC103FM
CHFI
CJMR
CHWO
680News
AM640
CISS FM
CHEZ
CBC
CIAO
CJBC(Fr.)
As mentioned above, you can also check the following website for delays or
cancellations: http://www.stopr.ca
Please make sure that the announcement is for the DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC
DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD.
If buses are cancelled and parents or guardians choose to bring their child to
school, it is also their responsibility to pick them up at the end of the day.
Catholics
wanted
separate schools where
all the beliefs of the
Catholic Church would be
taught, where the pupils
would live their faith in a
sacramental
and
community manner in
proximity to the parish
church and priest, and
where religion would
permeate the reading,
literature and history
curriculum. Furthermore,
as modern times arrived,
the multiculturalism of the
public school’s student
body necessitated the
eradication
of
the
teaching of Christianity.

Allergy Awareness
Please be reminded that the school
lunch hour is 12:00 -1:00pm.
Permission forms indicating your son or
daughter’s usual lunch routine (i.e.,
remain at school or go home for lunch)
were sent home in September.
Supervision will be provided throughout
the lunch hour for those students who
remain at school.
For students who will be signing out on
occasion but do not normally do so,
WRITTEN PERMISSION WILL BE
REQUIRED FOR EACH TIME THE
STUDENT LEAVES THE SCHOOL
GROUNDS. Please send a note to your
child’s teacher in this regard.
Winter Attire
A reminder to all parents and guardians
that as the cold weather is upon us,
students will need to be dressed
appropriately for outdoor weather. It is
important for students to have a winter
jacket, hat, mittens or gloves and boots
so that they are able to enjoy outdoor
recess in the colder months. Please
remind your son/daughter to ensure
that if they wear these items to school
they are expected to wear them for
recesses. Thank you for your
cooperation.
As many of you are aware, we have
several staff and students who have
severe, life-threatening allergies to
peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, insect
stings, etc. Please notify the office
immediately if your son or daughter has
a life-threatening allergy and follow the
procedure for medication administration
(see previous page). We require all
members of our community to
continue their cooperation in this
regard by ensuring all snacks/lunches
sent to school are peanut, tree nut
and shellfish allergen-free. We also
ask that food products not be brought in
to the classroom for sharing purposes
during in-class celebrations (e.g.,
student birthdays).
Emergency Evacuation
In rare circumstances, our students
and staff may need to evacuate the
building as a result of an emergency
in the building or in the nearby
community. Our evacuation site is
St. Philip School, located at 345
Fairview Road W in Mississauga.
Board regulations and safety
precautions require this contingency
plan. Should an evacuation be
necessary, you will be notified as
soon as possible and your child will
be held at St. Philip School until we
make direct contact with a
parent/guardian.
Visitors to Father Daniel Zanon & Volunteers
For the safety of staff and
students, all visitors to our school
(including parents) are required to
enter the building through the
front doors of the school and
report immediately to the office.
Please note that pets are not
permitted on school property at
any time.
Please ensure you sign-in and
obtain a visitor’s sticker if you are
remaining in the building for any
reason during school hours.
Any individual who works as an
employee of the Board or
volunteers to assist with our
programs MUST have a Criminal
Reference Check (CRC) completed
by the Peel Regional Police. For
volunteers, CRC are free of
charge. Forms are provided
through the office.
