The staff of St. Simon Stock Catholic Elementary School
extend a warm welcome to all new families and to those
returning to St. Simon Stock this year. A special greeting to
our Junior Kindergarten children, who are beginning school
for the first time. We hope that everyone has enjoyed the
summer with opportunities to rest, relax and enjoy family and
friends.
Each school year is filled with hope, excitement, and
challenges. As we journey together may we continue to be
respectful of one another and know that God is with us.
We are looking forward to another exciting year, where we
can work collaboratively to ensure the safety and well-being
of our students, as we support them to achieve academic
success, rooted in virtue by our faith.
Sincerely,
S. Wolf
Principal

Student Information Forms
A package of student information forms has
been sent home with your child. It is
important all forms be completed. Please
return forms promptly to your child’s
classroom teacher. A package needs to be
completed for each student.
Safe Arrival
Attendance of students is tracked first thing
each morning and afternoon to ensure that
every student has arrived safely. We ask that
you communicate with us in writing or by
phone whenever your child is absent. When
leaving a message on the school’s answering
machine, please clearly state your child’s name,
grade level, teacher’s name, and reason for
absence.
Opening School Mass
Our opening school mass will take place on
Wednesday October 7th at 9:30 a.m. in our
school gym. All are welcome to attend
Professional Activity Day
Friday, September 18, 2015 will be a
Professional Activity Day for Re-organization
and Faith Development. There is no school for
students on that day.
Catholic School Advisory Council
Student Agendas
If you wish to nominate yourself for Catholic
School Council, nomination forms can be
picked up from the main office during regular
school hours. Completed forms must be
received prior to 4:00 p.m. September 22, 2015.
Student agendas have been distributed to all
students in grades 1 through 8. In addition to
fostering the development of time
management and organizational skills, your
child’s agenda serves as a valuable
communication tool between home and school.
Elections, if required, will take place on
September 29, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. with our first
Catholic Council School Meeting to follow
immediately afterwards.
We recommend that you review the contents of
the agenda with your child, and check for
notes and daily assignments. A lost agenda
can be replaced for a cost of $5.
Student Accident Insurance
As required by the Education Act and the
Ministry of Education, the Dufferin -Peel
Catholic District School Board annually
provides parents with information about costeffective student accident insurance coverage
via student courier.
Although enrolment is voluntary, the board
encourages parents to take advantage of the
inexpensive insurance coverage, especially if
their child/children participate in sports or if
parents do not have dental insurance coverage.
Enrolment is required in writing.
Please note that Dufferin – Peel Catholic
District School Board requires that parents,
guardians and adult students provide written
acknowledgment that they have received
information regarding Student Accident
Insurance, especially for those students
participating in out-of-school excursions
and/or extra-curricular sports activities.
Lunch Lady
Lunch Lady is offering an in-school lunch
program. A paper menu will be sent home and
ordering can be done online at
www.thelunchlady.ca. Lunch delivery will
start Friday, September 18, 2015.
Criminal Reference Check
All school volunteers are required to have a
valid Criminal Reference Check prior to
volunteering at the school. If you have had a
Criminal Reference Check in the past two years
and we have a copy on file at the school, you
will need to sign a Criminal Offence
Declaration. Please see Mrs. Mancini for more
information.
Visitors in the School
Anyone entering the school must come to the
office upon arrival. The school is a very busy
place and we have many visitors/parents
dropping in for a variety of reasons. To ensure
we maintain the integrity of the classroom
program by avoiding interruptions, and for the
safety of our students, all visitors must come
to the office. We ask that you also convey this
information to older brothers and sisters of our
students. This way we know that anyone in the
halls or in the school yard is an authorized
visitor. All students leaving the school early
will be released through the front office as they
must sign out. If your child arrives late we ask
you to NOT accompany them to class. Thank
you for your co-operation.
Allergies
In addition to our Board Policy, the passing of
Sabrina’s Law serves as a reminder of the
seriousness of anaphylactic reactions. It
compels a continued call for action and
ongoing monitoring of existing practices to
support the safety, health and welfare of all
students at St. Simon Stock School.
As there are a number of students in our school
who have a severe life threatening allergy to
nuts, we continue to encourage our families to
refrain from sending to school any food, etc.
that contains nut products, e.g. peanut butter
and Nutella sandwiches, snacks with nuts, any
nut substitute products such as “WOW
Butter”, or any product that has “may contain
traces of nuts” on the label. You can help us
work towards an allergy free environment and
reduce the risk by not sending in any of these
products. We appreciate your understanding
and support.
Pizza Days
Pizza Day lunch will begin again, every other
Wednesday, starting September 16, 2015.
Save the Date
On Wednesday, September 23, 2015 St. Simon
Stock School will be hosting its annual Open
House & BBQ from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Order
forms have been sent home.
Personal Electronic Devices on Board
Premises and/or Board Sanctioned
Events for Educational Purposes
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School
Board acknowledges the value of the use of
technology for learning. Students are permitted
to register and use personal electronic devices
(PEDs) on board premises and/or board
sanctioned events for educational purposes,
under the direction of staff and only with
parent/guardian permission (GF 066, Network
User Application and Agreement). Students
may register their PED for the purpose of
connecting to the board wireless network.
Students are required to adhere to the student
“Personal Electronic Device Used with WI-FI
Network Student Agreement” and the
“Network User Application and Agreement.”
Please be advised that the Dufferin-Peel
Catholic District School Board will not be
responsible for any cost incurred through the
use of personal data plans.
PEDs are to be used responsibly and should not
interfere with learning; their use must comply
with the Catholic Code of Conduct, board
policies and procedures. Any personal
communications (i.e., phone calls, text
messages, etc.) will continue to be directed
through the main office. Failure to comply
with these guidelines may result in a loss of PED
privileges and/or any other consequences
deemed necessary by school administration.
The school principal may authorize limited
acceptable uses of personal electronic devices
during school-sanctioned activities for a specific
designated purpose outside of instructional
spaces and/or in common areas.
Students are responsible for the safety and
security of PEDs at all times and the Board
assumes no responsibility for lost, damaged or
stolen devices.
Karate Kids
We are excited to announce that the very
popular Karate Kids program will be coming
to St. Simon Stock at the end of September!
This 40 minutes class will run during the lunch
hour recess on Wednesday’s in the gymnasium
and combine fun fitness activity, character
education lessons and non-contact basic
martial arts movements. The class is designed
to build self-confidence, self-discipline and
fitness levels in a safe, non-competitive
environment. Offered to grades 1 through 5,
this 18 week program will run every
Wednesday starting September 30th until
February 10th. Enrolment forms will be handed
out to the students September 22nd. This is a
highly regarded program that is currently
running in over 95 schools across Ontario. You
are invited to visit their website for more
detailed information at www.karatekids.ca or
call 416 482 8198.
School Website
To keep you informed of events at the school, a
monthly newsletter will posted on our school
website at the beginning of each month
(www.dpcdsb.org/stock). Please read it for
pertinent information regarding your child’s
education. This year under the learning tab
you will notice a new feature showing class
pages. This page will provide you with
information regarding what will be happening
in your child’s classroom each month. It will
inform you of the curriculum areas being
covered that month and will promote engaging
conversation between you and your child.
Eco News
Thank you to everyone for their hard work and
