MISSION STATEMENT
St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School is a community of learners committed to the
development of the whole person. We are gifts of God working together to serve the Lord
Jesus and each other. With family and parish, we strive for excellence and a commitment to
life long learning.
Dear Parents\Guardians:
Our Annual Open\House Meet the Teacher night on September 29th was, once again, a very
successful event. It is a time to build the critical partnership between home, school and parish.
Thank you for your openness and willingness to enter into relationship - based around helping
your child(ren) more fully experience well-being and achievement at school - with the staff at St.
Elizabeth Seton School. A sincere thank you to those who make these events possible and to all
those who donated their time and talent in support of Catholic Education. Our Catholic School
Council continues to be most helpful, volunteering their collective time and talents to make all our
school events great. Our families enjoyed dining together on pizza. Your support is greatly
appreciated!
As we head more deeply into autumn, we hope that you take some time to give thanks and glory to
God for the many gifts He has given to us in order to serve Him, one other, and to continue to
build a strong, faith-filled school community here at St. Elizabeth Seton School.

Student Faith Ambassadors 2015-2016
This year promises to be the best year ever for Seton’s Student Faith Ambassadors! We boast 34 MEMBERS!!
We are currently running the Thanksgiving Food Drive and all proceeds both food and money will be donated to Eden
Food for Change. Students will be decorating fruits and vegetables which will be glued to the cornucopias
along our second floor to showcase all the donations received.
Please help us help others in this valuable endeavor. We will be collecting food and money until October 9th.
KISS & RIDE / CHURCH PARKING LOT
Thank you very much to all those parents who are using traffic markings and drop off lanes as they were intended. Please be reminded that cars
should never be parked or left unattended in the front lanes of our school. Parents who park their cars in the Kiss & Ride lane, especially between
3:15—3:30 pm are making it unsafe for children to leave the school.
There are still a number of drivers in the morning who are not mindful of the impact that unsafe driving practices have on the safety of all children
at our school. Please, for the safety of all our children, we are asking that you continue the practice of refraining from parking your car in the
school parking lot between 8:30 am and 8:45 am. Cars entering and exiting parking spaces, in such close proximity to a working Kiss and Ride
program, poses significant safety concerns. There are a number of children that are crossing the Drive Thru and Kiss & Ride lanes to get to the
school yard. The Kiss and Ride lanes are a convenient option if your child is old enough to disembark the vehicle on their own, and do not require
an adult to unbuckle them and help them exit the vehicle. However, if you do need to park, please use the church parking lot on Inlake Rd. We
remain very grateful to the Community Christian Reform Church of Meadowvale for the use of their parking facilities. This is a space that we
share with others.
When parking at the church, remember that the spaces closest to the gate, pathway and park are reserved for bus drivers. Please do not park in
these spaces and allow for enough space for busses to turn.
Suspected Child Abuse
CCAT testing for Grade 4 Students
The law requires that “members of the public,” including
professionals who work with children, have an obligation to
report promptly to the Children’s Aid Society if they suspect
that a child is or may be in need of protection.
Teachers/principals and indeed all adults face substantial
fines if they do not comply. It is the role of the Children’s Aid
Society, to whom we report, to investigate such a report. If
your child is bruised or marked from an accident you may
wish to let the teacher know the circumstances. Should a
report be made to the Children’s Aid Society, you should
understand that we are complying with the law and have the
best interest of your child in mind.
During the week of October 13th, our grade 4 students will be
administered the CCAT (Canadian Cognitive Abilities Test). Please try
to avoid booking appointments for 4th grade students during this time.
The results of the test are used to help to identify students who may be
eligible for enhanced/gifted programming in the future.
Picture Day
Wednesday, October 14th is Picture Day!!
Don’t forget your smile.

Bullying is not
acceptable!

School Information Sessions is available on the Board website@dpcdsb.org.
Homework Help
No Dogs, Please
We continue to see dogs on school property before
and after school. Please note, no matter what size
of dog it is, we must respect the safety of all our
students. This includes small dogs being carried.
Please keep dogs off the school property. We also
notice that there continue to be people who do not
pick up after their dogs. Please remind your
neighbours to do their part as there are children
playing in these areas!!

October 7 - National Walk to School Day
Pope Francis’ latest Encyclical on the environment invites us to be ‘Stewards of the Earth’. The National Walk to School Day on
October 7 provides an opportunity to reduce gas emissions and answer our Catholic call to care for God’s Creation. The benefits
of walking (and physical activity) is positively linked to physical and mental health as well as academic performance.
Parents on School Yard
and Parent Visitors
As we now move into the month of October we ask that
parents avoid from standing in the schoolyard when dropping off their children. Please say goodbye on the sidewalk
in front of the school or in the church parking lot at the far
end of the field. If you walk your child to school and you
wish to see them off we ask that you remain on the outside
of the schoolyard gates. There are far too many parents
wandering within the school yard and this makes it very
difficult for students to distinguish between a stranger and
a parent. Your child and their friends may know who you
are, but to the other children and staff members YOU ARE
A STRANGER. All staff members do wear their vests to
help create a safe environment for the children. We believe
that after the first four weeks of school the students are
comfortable and into the morning routine. We kindly ask
that all parents cooperate with this request. If your child
continues to experience separation anxiety please see
your child’s teacher.
Also just a friendly reminder that at no time are parents
allowed to enter the school or onto the
playground during school without
checking into the office first and signing
in. A visitors badge will be provided upon
registration.
Project HOPE
Many of you may be aware that the Archdiocese of Toronto
initiated a project called Project Hope. The Diocese is trying
to raise $3 million dollars to bring 100 Syrian families to Canada. St. Elizabeth School community has once again generously
helped those in need. During the week of September 21-25,
students and staff brought in donations. We are very proud
to say that St. Elizabeth Seton families have donated over
$711.00. The school staff and students would like to extend a
heartfelt thank you for you kindness.
Hallowe’en Safety Tips and Dress

Wear appropriate costumes to school

Face masks are not allowed

No weapons of any kind at school
While trick or treating:

Wear light clothing so that you can be seen

Carry a flashlight

Walk with an adult
Remember...we are a Nut-Free
school!
Anaphylaxis
Life Threatening Allergies and School
We ask your cooperation by refraining from sending
your child to school with nut products or foodstuffs
which may contain nut products. In the event that
your child does come to school with these products and
you have received notice of nut restrictions for your child’s
classroom they will have the opportunity to eat in a
designated area which will limit the exposure of these allergens to the general school facility.
Your cooperation and assistance is appreciated.
Code of Conduct Assemblies
Recently, all students attended a Code of Conduct Assembly to review routines and procedures expected of them
in and outside of the school. Topics included being punctual for class, appropriate dress attire and acceptable behavior. We have reminded students about our “Hands Off”
policy and playing fair.
Aggressive play can lead to unintended injuries and unnecessary arguments. Teachers have been instructed to
contact parents to inform them about their child’s actions
and if need be send students to the office who continue to
disobey these rules.
We want all students to feel safe and included at school.
Reminder
November 1, 2015
We move the clocks back one hour
Extra Curricular Activities & Class Excursions
This year, your son or daughter will have the opportunity to take field trips and participate in a number of
extra-curricular activities. In preparation for such
events, permission forms will be sent home.
It is essential that these forms be filled out, signed and
promptly returned to the school.
NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED ON ANY TRIP
WITHOUT A SIGNED PERMISSION FORM.
TEACHERS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO MAKE
ANY EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE.
Lunch Hour Routines
If you plan to drop off your child’s lunch, please assist us
in efficient distribution by reminding your child to come to
the office at lunch time. Please label the lunch bag with
your child’s name and teacher/grade. A table on front of
the main office will be available for the lunch drop-off. A
reminder that students who regularly stay for lunch are
NOT permitted to leave school property without a signed
and dated note from parents each time they wish to
leave school grounds.
Pupil Accommodation Review Policy Public Consultation
The Ministry of Education released the new Pupil Accommodation Review Guideline (PARG) in March 2015. This guideline sets
expectations for all school boards on managing and reviewing underutilized school space, including potential school closures, and
for the greater coordination and sharing of planning related information between school boards and other community partners.
The guideline requires all school boards in the province to develop or revise Pupil Accommodation Review Policies and to invite
public input into the policy before it is finalized.
A survey to collect feedback on the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s draft amended Policy 6.51 Pupil Accommodation
Review will be available for review and comment on the Board’s website at www.dpcdsb.org until 4:30 pm on Friday, October 16,
2015. Supporting documents will also be available for reference and review. Please consider reviewing and providing input on this
policy.
Late Slips
All students arriving at school after 8:45 am and 12:30
pm must obtain a late slip from the office. Part of being
a responsible student is to arrive at school on time. It is
disruptive to a classroom environment to have a student enter the room once class has begun. Lates will
also be recorded on the students Report Card and in
the school Attendance Register.
Head Injury Policy
When a student receives an injury to the head, it is Board Policy
that we inform parents. We will attempt to notify you even
when it is a very minor injury. Please try not to be too alarmed
should you receive a call.
Recess Bells
Recess breaks serve a special purpose in the daily life
of a school. Students are expected to go outside for
fresh air and exercise. If your child is sick, he or she
should be at home recuperating and not spreading their
flu or cold virus, etc., throughout the classroom. Remember, there is no indoor supervisor at recess as
staff is occupied elsewhere or on duty outside.
Safety of Pupils
Emergency response procedures in the event of a fire,
bomb threat, serious accident/injury or and intruder
have been established and are revised on an ongoing
basis. All students and staff will participate in practicing
emergency procedures.
Custody Orders
If you are separated or divorced or otherwise have a
custody order pertaining to your children, we require a
copy in the office. Otherwise we must release your children to either parent upon request. We only need the
one or two page pertaining to access. These are kept
in a confidential file in the Principal's office.
Pediculosis
Pediculosis (head lice) is a condition that anyone can get. It is
not considered a health problem or a result of poor hygiene.
When children are in groups such as at school, they are more
easily infected. Lice are spread for example, by head to head
contact, or when hats or scarves are shared. Lice cannot jump
or hop to different heads and their life span, without a human
host, is highly limited. How can you help? Be alert to your
child scratching his/her head, particularly behind the ears or at
the base of the neck, where it is warmer. Examine your child’s
hair regularly. Usually the nits or eggs are easier to spot than
the actual lice bugs. The nits may range from brownish to grayish in color. They differ from dry scalp flakes in that they tend
to be at the base of the hair shaft and are strongly attached to
the hair, in a way that makes removal difficult.
When an infestation is suspected, staff will check your child’s
hair. If nits are noted, you will be asked to come and pick up
your child.
A variety of treatments are available from your pharmacist. Be
sure to follow directions regarding the treatment of bedding
and furniture.
All nits must be removed from your child’s hair before he/she
can return to class.
Recycling
We have been certified as an ECO school and continue to find ways in which we can be good stewards of the
earth. Recycling is an initiative that serves the community in an environmentally responsible way. Please consider
sending your child with a “litterless lunch” using reusable containers to promote environmentally responsible
practices.
Wildcats Sporting Events
We are off to a great start! Students are practicing for Cross Country and Volleyball.
Extracurricular activities provides opportunities for children to meet new friends and develop
teamwork. If your child is interested in joining a sports team, have them listen to the daily
announcements for sign up and practice days.
