O God, source and giver of all things,
You manifest your infinite majesty, power and goodness
In the earth about us:
We give you honor and glory.
For the sun and the rain,
For the manifold fruits of our fields:
For the increase of our herds and flocks,
We thank you.
For the enrichment of our souls with divine grace,
We are grateful.
Amen.
VIRTUE: Empathy
Empathy helps us to connect and live together in safe, caring, inclusive
communities. We understand empathy to mean the ability to identify with
and feel other people’s concerns. We believe that in a faith community we are
nothing without relationships. Relationships that grow in a spirit of
communion- an understanding that we share an identity based on being created
in the image and likeness of God and being imbued with one Spirit. We are
many parts of one body. An empathetic person believes that we all share one
Spirit; that we are many parts of one body because we are all created in the
image and likeness of God.

BRINGING LUNCH FOR STUDENTS
If you are bringing lunch to a student, please drop
off the lunch at the table on your right as soon as
you enter through the school front doors. Please
make sure your child’s name, grade, and teacher is
attached to the lunch, and your child knows to go
down to the front door at lunch time (a note to your
child’s teacher might help with this). Please do not
wait in the front foyer as it becomes very crowded
at lunch time. Thank you to parents and caregivers for doing such a good job so far this year
following the procedures for bringing lunch to
students!
INDOOR / OUTDOOR SHOES
The students should have a pair of indoor shoes to
wear at school in class and for gym. Outdoor
shoes/ boots will be kept for outdoor use only and
out of the classrooms in order to reduce the
amount of dirt and mud brought indoors. This will
assist our custodial staff in keeping the school
clean. Thank you for your co-operation.
FOOD DRIVE
The Thanksgiving Holiday is fast approaching.
Collection of non-perishable items takes place from
Monday, October 5th, 2015 – Friday, October 9th, 2015. All
items will be donated to Eden Food Bank. Our heartfelt
gratitude goes out to the St. Sebastian community, for
their generosity and kindness in helping others less
fortunate.
ALLERGY AWARENESS ALERT
St. Sebastian School staff would appreciate the cooperation of the entire school community in NOT
sending any lunches or snacks that contain peanuts, nuts
or any other life threatening allergens, which could
potentially harm a child. We would like to keep all
classrooms allergen-aware. In an effort to do so, any
child that brings a lunch into the classroom that contains
any life threatening allergens will eat their lunch in
another location in the school designated for that specific
purpose. Please make sure that all of your children’s
caregivers are aware of this request. We understand that
students enjoy celebrating special occasions with others
in the classroom; however, to ensure everyone’s safety,
the policy at St. Sebastian School is that non-edible treats
only will be permitted to be shared. There are many
alternatives to bringing in food for birthdays and special
occasions. Some suggestions are: stickers, gift
certificates, erasers, dollar store items, pencils, etc. If you
would like to discuss any other ideas, please talk to your
child’s teacher or the school administration.
We look forward to your understanding and co-operation
in making our school safe for all students.
MEDICAL CONCERNS AND FORMS
For any students who have medical issues requiring
medication to be administered and stored at the school
(e.g. epi-pens and puffers), please ensure the school has all
the necessary forms and medication. As well, should
your child receive a concussion, either at/away from
school, please inform us. Physician authorization to
return to school is now required. Required Physician
forms are in the School Office. Please contact Mrs.
Kameka if you have any questions.
Photo Retake Day is October
28th, 2015. Students must return
first photographs with note from
parents requesting a retake.
PLAYGROUND SUPERVISION
Supervision begins at 8:45 a.m. Parents should not
drop off their children prior to 8:45 a.m. For your
child’s safety, we request that he/she not be on
school property until scheduled supervised times.
NO DOGS ALLOWED
ON SCHOOL PROPERTY
From 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., dogs are not allowed on
school property. This includes small dogs being
carried. Please be respectful of the fact that some of
our students have a fear of dogs.
BUS INFORMATION
Please check the Region of Peel’s Transportation
Department’s websites (www.stopr.ca and
https://businfo.stopr.ca/) to check for delays and
cancellations. All concerns and complaints
regarding bus transportation are to be made
directly to the S.T.O.P.R. at 905-890-0614.
TERRY FOX WALK
On Wednesday, September 30th, 2015, St. Sebastian CES
participated in the annual Terry Fox Walk.
Congratulations to our students and staff for their
generous donation to cancer research. Thank you very
much to Mrs. Dormer and her team for organizing this
wonderful event!
KISS AND RIDE REMINDERS
We encourage parents to drop off children at the
designated drop off points. For those parents using the
Kiss & Ride, this area is for drop-off and pick-up only.
Cars cannot park in this area. Parents dropping off
Kindergarten children are asked to park in the West
parking lot. If you are caught in the parking lot by
buses dropping off or picking up students, please be
patient in trying to exit. Please exercise extreme
caution when driving. At times, it can become
congested, and extra care is needed both on school
property and on the roadway in front of the school.
Please obey all traffic signs, including the “One Way
Sign - DO NOT ENTER,” posted at the East
driveway entrance. If there are any parent volunteers
that are interested in working the Kiss and Ride on a
daily basis, please notify the school as soon as possible.
When dropping off students, please DO NOT park in
the front of the school. All parents are expected to use
the safe Kiss and Ride lanes at the side of the school.
The front of the school is a Bus Unloading and
Loading Zone Only. It is not safe for the students to
be crossing in front of the buses. We do not want any
students hurt.

homework. PLASP Child Care Services operates

Personal Electronic Devices on Board Premises and/or Board Sanctioned Events for Educational
Purposes:
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board acknowledges the value of the use of technology for
learning. Students are permitted to register and use personal electronic devices (PEDs) on board premises
and/or board sanctioned events for educational purposes, under the direction of staff and only with
parent/guardian permission. Students may register their PED for the purpose of connecting to the board
wireless network. Students are required to adhere to the student “Personal Electronic Device Used with
WI-FI Network Student Agreement” (GF 337) and the “Network User Application and Agreement.”
(GF066) Please be advised that the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board will not be responsible
for any cost incurred through the use of personal data plans.
PEDs are to be used responsibly and should not interfere with learning; their use must comply with the
Catholic Code of Conduct, board policies and procedures. Any personal communications (i.e., phone
calls, text messages, etc.) will continue to be directed through the main office. Failure to comply with
these guidelines may result in a loss of PED privileges and/or any other consequences deemed necessary
by school administration.
The school principal may authorize limited acceptable uses of personal electronic devices during schoolsanctioned activities for a specific designated purpose outside of instructional spaces and/or in common
areas.
Students are responsible for the safety and security of PEDs at all times and the Board assumes no
responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen devices.
Eye See…Eye Learn® provides comprehensive eye exams by local Doctors of Optometry to junior kindergarten
students in participating school regions. The eye exams are covered under provincial health insurance (or OHIP)
when you show your child’s health card. This means that there is no out-of-pocket cost for the eye exam.
If the child requires a pair of glasses, they will receive a free pair donated by Nikon Lenswear, OGI and your
participating Doctor of Optometry. The value of the glasses is estimated over $250.
The Eye See...Eye Learn® program was developed to raise awareness among parents of the importance of having
their children's eyes checked when starting school. Each year, thousands of children start school without ever
having an eye exam.
Children who cannot see the board, focus on a picture or follow words in a book may struggle to achieve their full
learning potential. Vision problems can also impact their hand-eye coordination for physical activities and even
impact their social development. In fact, 80 per cent of learning comes directly through vision.
The Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO) recognizes the important link between eye health and learning,
and recommends comprehensive eye examinations for all children entering kindergarten. The Eye See...Eye Learn®
program will help make sure our kindergarten students get the best start to learning.
The program is funded in part by the Government of Ontario.
Eye See…Eye Learn throughout Canada
