NOVEMBER
Make Me An Instrument of Your Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love,
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is darkness, light,
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much
seek to be consoled as to console,
not so much to be understood as to understand,
not so much to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
it is in dying that we awake to eternal life.

Virtue of the Month: Conscience
During the month of November we will celebrate and focus on
the virtue of Conscience.
Sacramental Preparation
Although the school plays an important role in Sacramental
preparation, parents as the primary instructors of faith, are critical in preparing their children to receive these Sacraments. Preparatory meetings have been organized for parents. These
meetings will provide you with an opportunity to be an integral
part of your child’s spiritual growth in these sacraments. Father
Bernard and his Parish team work collaboratively with our staff
in nurturing the faith life at St. Margaret of Scotland.
Attendance and Punctuality
Daily attendance and punctuality are very important. A reminder for parents to call the school and leave a message if your
child is going to be late or away due to illness or an appointment. Parents should also call to report their child’s absence if
the child is not participating in a scheduled field trip.
The absence/late telephone line is (905) 820-5115. You will be
prompted to press 0. It is available 24/7. You do not need to
speak directly with the office. A message will suffice in the
event that due to volume of calls or time of calls you get our
voicemail. Please leave a message indicating the date, your
child’s name (please spell out the last name) and name of teacher and grade level. Due to our earlier start time, we ask that you
call before 8:30, so that we can verify attendance in a timely
manner.
Allergy Aware School VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE
St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Elementary School, is an
allergen aware school. Anaphylaxis is a severe and life threatening allergic reaction. The most common allergen triggers are
food, insect stings, medications, exercise and latex. An anaphylactic reaction involves symptoms from two or more body systems. We would appreciate the cooperation of the entire school
community by NOT sending any lunches or snacks that contain
nuts, nut oils or derivatives (e.g. peanut butter, peanuts, or peanut oil ), seafood, shellfish, sesame and whole eggs.
New Painted Playground
Remembrance Day
On Remembrance Day, we remember those who gave their
lives for freedom through various missions in pursuit of peace.
Poppies are worn on November 11 as a symbol of the sacrifices
men and women made for us, and the courage they displayed in
serving our country. It is appropriate that “Conscience” is the
virtue this month. We are called to do the right thing, and pray
for God’s guidance to make informed
decisions.
St. Margaret of Scotland School would
like to invite parents to join us on
Wednesday, November 11 at 10:30 a.m.
for our Remembrance Day Service.
At 1:30 p.m., the students will be reciting
“In Flanders Fields” in front of the
school. All are invited.
There is a newly painted playground at St. Margaret of Scotland
School! The students have been enjoying a variety of activities.
Grade 6 to 8 students will be trained as Playground Activity
Leaders (PALS) and they will help coordinate and lead games
during recess.
MEDICAL CONCERNS
If your son/daughter has any medical concerns, please ensure that
you inform the school. Information may be shared directly with
the classroom teacher or office. If medication is required, forms
will be sent for completion by parents and the family doctor. All
information is held in confidence.
DISTRIBUTION OF MEDICATION
Please speak with the office staff if there are any concerns or
needed consideration regarding the storage of medication. Parents
are required to complete a “Request for Storage of Medication”
form available through the school’s office.
Head Injury Policy
When a student receives an injury/bump to the head (however
minor), it is a Board Policy that we inform parents through a
phone call. This is precautionary only and we ask that you check
your child when they get home for any signs of a concussion or
illness.
WOW
This year our Walk On Wednesday/Marchons mercredi program
will continue. This project will help reduce the use of cars in our
Kiss and Ride lanes and in the school community. Additionally,
walking will help us exercise and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Eco-Schools
At St. Margaret of Scotland School we encourage you to reduce
the amount of garbage going to landfill sites. We collect recycling materials from classrooms each week. We want to encourage students to bring boomerang lunches and reusable water bottles, as we did last year! It is very important for us to treat our
earth with respect and to preserve our earth for future generations! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE by helping to make
our world a cleaner, brighter and greener place.
Kiss and Ride Program
Please note that when dropping your child off at school use the
middle Kiss and Ride lane and have your child exit from the right
hand side of the vehicle. At this point the child may walk to the
sidewalk. Parents should not exit the car as this creates a safety
concern as the left lane is for exiting traffic. Please note that the
Kiss and Ride lane is for drop off
only. There is no parking or stopping in front of the school between
7:50-8:20 am and dismissal times 2:15 -3:00 pm. Also note that
we ask that you please do not make a LEFT HAND turn during
these times out of the school property
es are promoted on an ongoing basis, but as the
prevalence of colds and flu increases, our
board increases the cleaning of contact surfaces, as well as reminds schools to review cold
and flu prevention with students and
staff. Many resources are utilized from our
regional health units.
A reminder, as well, that communicable diseases can be contracted in public places
throughout the year. For example, coldrelated viruses, such as Enterovirus, are
transferred from person to person through
hand contact. Cold and flu viruses typically
peak from December through February, but
can start as earlier.

Regional Health Unit Resources
Please assist us by reviewing good hand washing procedures, as
well as other preventative measures, as outlined in the various

Weather Wise
Now that the fall season is well upon us we would like to remind
all parents that students should arrive at school dressed appropriately for the weather. When students are in attendance at school
they are expected to fully participate in all aspects of the program, which includes outdoor recess. At this time it is also advisable that students bring an indoor pair of shoes that may be left
at the school. This is also important as in the event of an emergency evacuation we are not able to take the time to put boots/
outdoor shoes on before leaving the building.
End of the Day Early Student Pick-up
From time to time, it is necessary for parents to pick up their
child early from school for medical appointments, etc.. We ask
that you indicate it in your child’s agenda. so that we may have
Advent Mass
Our school Advent Mass will take place on Thursday, December your child ready when you arrive. As well, from time to time,
parents need to pick students up early for emergency purposes.
