TARY SCHOOL
End of Year Prayer
As we come to the end
of another school year,
And may now relax from our studies a little,
We pause to thank you, Dear Lord,
For all of Your guidance & support in our work
Throughout this past year.
Please forgive us for any times that we may have
offended You by not using
our talents and gifts to serve You
and ourselves best.
Watch over us as we begin to enjoy our summer
vacation.
Keep us safe and free from harm.
We ask this of You, Jesus Christ,
our Lord and Saviour.
Amen
Virtue for May is Fairness
This month we will celebrate the virtue of Fairness:
Affirmation:
I am a fair person.
I show my love by playing by the rules
I treat others as I want to be treated.
I love God and all that God has created, including
myself.
June is here and it has brought sunshine and warm
summer weather!
Due to a Ministry Outdoor Education Grant, St. Peter
School was able to take advantage of this money for a
number of trips for our classes. The following classes
were able to go on trips at no cost to them:
- Mrs. Croft & Mrs. Hogeveen’s classes will go to
the “Butterfly Conservatory!
- Mr. Marchildon & Mrs. Nemett’s classes will
attend the Terra Cotta Conservatory!
- Mrs. Chisholm’s class will be visiting the
Toronto Zoo!
- Some money was left over to help with some
costs for the Camp Muskoka trip.
Last week, our Grade 8 students were off on an overnight
trip to Camp Muskoka, an athletic and leadership camp
where they were actively involved in numerous outdoor
activities.
The Family Track Meet will take place on Friday, June
12th at St. Marcellinus Secondary School. We
congratulate all students that participate and cheer on the
ones that qualify for the Board Track Meet TBA.
Students in Grade 3 and Grade 6 students have just
finished writing EQAO an opportunity to demonstrate a
culmination of all their learnings!
On Wednesday, June 17th we hope you will join us for
our Graduation and Year End Mass which will take place
in our school gym as they are repairing the church roof.
Our Senior Kindergartens will graduate on Wednesday,
June 23rd—at 1:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing their
parents at their graduation!
Our Grade 8’s will also be graduating on Monday, June
22nd. We congratulate them and wish them all the best as
they move on to high school!

date of September 8th.
We thank you for your support in this area.
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL MARIA PARKER
Staff/Students/Parents and Community
It is with much regret that I inform St. Peter School community that I will not be returning as Principal of
St. Peter School in September 2015. In my place will be Mr. Kevin Da Costa who is currently the Principal of St.
Ursula School in Brampton.
In my two years at St. Peter School I have come to appreciate the uniqueness of this community. St. Peter School is
an incredible school comprised of wonderful students who desire to excel in all they do. Our students are the
driving force behind all I have ever wanted to plan and implement during my time here.
My vision has always been to see a school that provides programs and opportunities to allow students to excel and
become the best they can be.
I extend my sincerest gratitude to all for allowing me to have been part of this incredible community.

IMPORTANT BUSING
INFORMATION
2015-16 BUS ROUTES
Bus routes will be posted
at our school on Wed.,
August 26th, 2015. If there
is any new information
that needs to be shared, we will also post that alongside the
transportation schedules. The deadline for any changes to your
busing information is the first week of July. Please contact the
Transportation Department at: 905-890-6000.
KINDERGARTEN BUSING
KINDERGARTEN RIDE
The Annual Kindergarten Ride is
presented by the Operator’s
Association each August just before
school begins. It provides first time
riders and their families with an
introduction to school bus riding procedures and safety through
a videotape presentation, a question and answer session, and a
bus ride for the family. It is a free program open to both riders
and children who walk to school. Registration details with dates,
times and locations are provided in
May to all schools and the local
media.
ANNUAL JK and
KINDERGARTEN RIDE
Tuesday, September 1st,
2015 The ride program starts at
9:00 am and goes until 12:00 pm (noon). Parents should allow 1
hour for the ride program during which time children watch a
video on riding the bus, take part in a question and answer
period, and then take a short ride on a school bus (this is the only
time parents may ride the bus with their child).

STUDENT LATENESS
LET’S PUT A STOP TO STUDENT LATENESS!
School begins at 8:55 am
sharp and students should
arrive at school
prepared to begin work on
time. Please review the
need to be punctual with
your children.
Once the last of the student lines have entered the building at
the back, the doors are closed and locked. A child who is coming
in late must report to the office for a late slip as part of the safe
arrival program. Lateness is a disruption to the class and other
students. Please try to impress upon your child the need to be
on time.

Dismissal
Supervision of pupils in the mornings begins at 8:40am.
To ensure your child’s safety, please do not bring your
child to school before 8:40 a.m. as no one will be
available to supervise students.
The butterflies are coming! Our
school will soon have a butterfly
education kit to attract butterflies to
our yard and to learn about their life
cycles. We should have them by the
end of May.
We had a very successful and
informative electronic
waste assembly on April
30. Students learned how
important it is to
properly dispose of electronics
responsibly. St Peter's is doing
our part in helping to recycle
batteries as we have a
receptacle at the front entrance of the school to collect
them. Please continue to bring in your used batteries.
A team from Eco-Schools will visit St Peter's to do an
audit to determine our level of certification for the upcoming
year. Let's make sure that we do our best to continue to
reduce-reuse and recycle. There are two things that we plan to
do to achieve this.
INTERNET SAFETY TIPS
Parents, remember to:
 ASK questions to evaluate your child’s Facebook and
Twitter friends and followers.
 Ask about screen names used to
determine how your child may
be
presenting
him/herself
online.
 DISTINGUISH between a friend,
acquaintance and stranger - and
the potential and permanent impact it can have on your
child’s real-world reputation and future career.
 GRASP what really happens to the information posted to
your child’s profile and to their friend’s profiles.
 SET Facebook & Twitter’s basic, advanced and hidden,
search, privacy and posting tools and understand how to
fully customize your child’s profile to limit/allow access
to certain users.
 STUDENT SAFETY Every student has the right to come to
school and to be respected for who they are.
While St. Peter School prides itself as a tight-knit school
community, sometimes students struggle to treat each other with
respect and to make good choices when conflicts occur. As
educators, we continue to teach students the core values of
mutual respect and appropriate problem solving, but we cannot
do this alone. We need your support to help our children make
good choices. Encourage your children to use respectful language
while they problem solve, to seek adult support when they feel
they need it and to talk to you if they have
.
One is everyone is encouraged to have a litterless lunch.
Ideally, students can bring lunches in a reusable container. The
second eco-effort will be a schoolyard clean-up. We will
continue to plant shade trees along the side of the playground.
Thank you to D. Luciani for initiating and leading our students
in all the various ECO initiatives throughout the year! The ECO
Team has become an integral part of St. Peter and they have
continually demonstrated their care of Mother Earth!
FIRE DRILL AND LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES
Throughout the year the school personnel
reviews safety procedures with students on a
number of topics. Emergency evacuation drills
are conducted to ensure that everyone is aware
of the procedures to follow in order to exit the building safely.
In the event of an unforeseen emergency situation students and
staff will evacuate to St. Timothy Parish and our second
evacuation site is Parkinson School. Students will continue to
discuss and practice procedures that are implemented in the
event of an emergency lockdown. We will be having another
FIRE DRILL and LOCKDOWN in the coming weeks.
NUT ALLERGY ALERT
READING AT HOME
We have several students who have life
threatening allergies to nuts, sesame seeds
and/or peanuts. We are asking that you help
us make St. Peter an allergy aware school by
refraining from sending your children with
peanut butter or other products containing nuts or nut oils (i.e.,
Nutella). Contact with nuts, oils or derivatives could be life
threatening. Even the smell of the allergen may cause a reaction.
We thank you for your co-operation.
As a parent you are a powerful influence
on your child’s success in reading.
Reading with your child conveys a critical
message that reading is both important
and enjoyable. It is essential to plan
reading times when there will be
minimal distractions and interruptions. Your child can learn that
reading together at home is a priority. Reading with your child
can open the door to a life-long interest in stories and books!
VISITORS TO ST. PETER SCHOOL
A reminder, for the safety of all our students
and staff, we ask that all visitors please
check in at the office and obtain a Visitor’s
badge. We ask that you sign in and out.
Thank you in advance for assisting us in
keeping St. Peter School safe.
REMINDER OF STUDENT DRESS CODE
With the warm weather finally approaching (we hope!), we would
like to take this opportunity to review the dress code expectations
at St. Peter School.
As a Catholic school, we believe that there must
be a commitment to high standards of modesty,
neatness, cleanliness and good taste. Therefore,
while halter tops, short shorts, spandex bike
wear, muscle shirts and similar clothing may be
acceptable for beach wear, they are not
appropriate for classroom instruction. Shirts should be of
appropriate length to be able to be
tucked into pants or a skirt. Shorts and
skirts should be appropriate length for
school. Suggestive or inappropriate
language or violent symbols are not
permitted on any clothing or personal
belongings.
Sunglasses and hats are not to be worn
inside. Non-marking running shoes are to be worn during physical
education classes. Tight and/or revealing clothing is not
acceptable. We appreciate your support.
PROTECTING YOUR SKIN FROM THE SUN
Overexposure to the sun can cause skin
damage. We remind students to take
precautions to protect their skin during
recess times. The following are some
suggestions to help protect the skin:
1. Wear protective clothing to cover the skin.
2. Wear a hat to protect both the eyes and skin.
3. When possible, stay out of direct sunlight.
4. Wear sun block, the higher the protection factor
number, the greater the protection.

Diversity Team
On May 1, a team of grade 7 and 8 students travelled to
Ascension Secondary School to participate in a Diversity
Conference. Teams from all our Family of Schools
attended. The theme was "I am Normal" and all those in
attendance created a display that demonstrated all the
ways that we celebrate differences and diversity in our
schools. Students met with students from other schools
and could share their experiences. We thank D. Luciani
& A. Salituro for spear-heading this initiative.
Dance Team
We are so proud of this year's Dance Team who performed
at the Rose Theatre and earned recognition at the
Platinum level. Well done girls!
The team performed their routine in front of the school as
part of Education Week on May 7. We have a very talented
group of students in our midst!
We are awaiting the arrival of the video of all the
performances. It is expected to arrive early in June. We
thank J. Jankowski & D. Luciani for all their time, efforts
and hard work in preparing our students to achieve such
great success!
