Mary, Mother of Mothers, we honor you this month of May.
Help us to be servants as you
were,
And carry the life of Jesus within
us always.
Help us to model our lives after
yours;
To become loving,
To love the unlovable,
To be closer to you,
To have greater trust,
To love our wayward families,
To become caring and serving to
all those we affect in our daily
lives.
Amen

Principal’s message
Catholic Education Week takes place
from May 2-6th. Please see the calendar
enclosed for a full list of activities during
this important week. This year’s Catholic
Education week is Opening Doors of Mercy. Throughout Catholic Education
Week, we ask you to reflect on the significance of Catholic education’s presence
and contribution in our Church and in our
society. To honour Catholic Education
Week we will have a mass on Wednesday, May 4th at 9:30am. Parents are welcome to join us at the Church. Father
Vito will be blessing a statue of St. Patrick
that the church is donating to the school.
Following the mass the entire school population will participate in the procession
with the statue. The Youth Faith Ambassadors will be running a food drive during
this week. Please send in non-perishable
food items in support of those in need.
This is an exciting month as students ingrade 7 receive their Confirmation. May
God continue to bless them and guide
them on their faith journey. Thank you to
Mr. Broccoli, Mr. Tenuta and Father Vito
for all of their hard work in preparing the
students. I also wish to congratulate the
grade 2 students who received their First
Communion recently. Thank you to Mrs.
Scarfo for her hard work in preparing the
students for the sacrament.
As we honour Mary and all mothers during the month of May we are reminded of
the many blessings mothers bestow upon
their children each and every day. Let us
keep Mary and all mothers in our
thoughts and prayers.

Virtue of the Month– Acceptance
The virtue of acceptance describes our ability to look at the attitudes and action of
those around us and then just stop and consider without judging them. The virtue
of acceptance means that we look beyond what we see a person’s skin colour,
ethnic background, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation and see a person as
created and loved by God.
School Bus Safety
As you know ensuring child safety is a very
important goal while students are on the bus.
Please remind your children of the following
rules on the bus:
 Listen to the driver when getting on and
off the bus, especially when a road must
be crossed
 Go directly to their seat and stay seated until they are let off the bus
 Follow all instructions from the bus driver, especially about where they
put their belongings
 No eating or drinking on the bus, school bags should remained closed
 No swearing or yelling or other types of inappropriate behaviour
 No opening or closing of windows unless the driver permits
 Keep all belongings inside the bus
 No damage to the bus seats (students will be held responsible)
 Respect private property while waiting for the school bus
 Allow the bus driver to focus on driving by not talking to the bus driver
while the bus is in operation unless it is necessary
School Council Retreat:
May 18, 2016 7pm
At St. Patrick’s Church
All parents are welcome
Next School Council
Meeting:
June 7, 2016
7:00pm
It is imperative that students understand that the bus driver’s main focus
must be to drive and so students must be on their best behaviour for the
duration of their trip.
Catholic Education Week takes place from May 2-6, 2016. Catholic
schools are Catholic communities. Catholic schools are faith communities.
We-parents, students, teachers, administrative and support staff—walk and
grow together in the faith which we received at our Baptism. And it is the
‘together’ that we grow. Our growth is primarily a relationship with God,
who at our Baptism called us by name. But the response of each of us to
that growth is both personal and communal. We grow in our faith in the
nurturing atmosphere of our Catholic community and that of our local parish, our home, or our Catholic school community.
This year’s theme, Opening Doors of Mercy is supported by five subthemes, one for each of the five days of Catholic Education week in order
to help students to understand the rich meaning of this year’s theme:
Monday: Mercy that Welcomes
Tuesday: Mercy that Loves
Wednesday: Mercy that Forgives
Thursday: Mercy that Lives the Gospel
Friday: Mercy that Rejoices

EQAO Update
The grade 3 and 6 assessments measure how well
students have met the expectations in the Ontario
Curriculum Grades 1-8. The assessments test what
students know and how well they apply their
knowledge and skills in reading, writing and mathematics in everyday situations by requiring students
to read and respond to passages, to write and to
solve mathematical problems. The results are reported in terms of achievement from levels 1-4 with
level 3, which represent a high level of achievement
as the standard.
The window for EQAO assessments of all grade 3
and 6 students of 2015/2016 has been established
for May 25 to June 8, 2016. Please keep this important time frame in mind when you are planning
family trips or appointments. It is important that all
Grade 3 and 6 students be on time and in attendance for these assessments.
For further details on our school results improvement plans or students achievement on the provincial assessments visit the Board website at: http://

Dear parents, students, staff, administrators and parishioners of St.
Patrick’s parish:
As our Easter Season unfolds, and many of our children and young friends approach the church with family and loved ones to celebrate their First Holy Communion and Confirma on, we rejoice in the love and mercy of God who con nues to enrich us with his blessings. Tradi onally, the month of May, embracing the Feasts of Easter and Pentecost, reminds us of the early Chris an community. While wai ng for the promised gi of the Holy Spirit, they remained in the Upper Room, with Mary, the Mother of Jesus. She was their Mother and their teacher. Con nuing that tradi on, the Church dedicates the month of May to her love. We look upon her as she remains for us the perfect disciple of Christ, our Mother and our model in following her beloved Son and listening to his Word. May her love con nue to embrace our families. May her prayers be felt in the lives and the homes of all who face daily challenges. As the month of May begins, let us turn to her in confidence and trust, as her beloved children. It was from the Cross that Jesus entrusted all of us, in the person of John, the beloved disciple, to her, as her sons and daughters, brothers and sisters of the Lord. During the month of May, let us as individuals and families, turn to her in prayer and ask her to “pray for us”. Perhaps, as we gather around our dinner table, or at other moments of the day, an extra “Hail Mary” may be recited each day. Thanking her for her “yes” to God, and for bringing Jesus to us. Also, May begins with a week dedicated to Catholic Educa on. I take this opportunity, as I will each day at Mass this week, to thank God for the gi of Catholic Educa on. I also wish to congratulate all involved in our schools. Thank you and God bless you dear principals and viceprincipals, teachers and secretaries, custodians and volunteers. And above all, you, dear parents and guardians, students and all who believe and support Catholic Educa on. Let us pray that this gi may con nue to be appreciated and supported by all who are the recipients of its benefits. Wishing you blessings, love and peace, Fr. Vito Marziliano, Your pastor. May 2016
