Easter Prayer
Dear Jesus, you taught us to be strong when times get tough,
just like when you carried your cross.
Even you must have wanted to lie down on the ground after you fell, but you got
up three times and carried on.
Help us to learn from your example.
When we are sad and hurting, help us to be brave like you.

them, as they contain
information of importance
During the month of April, we celebrate the
Virtue of Love. Love can be seen in the simplest
acts of kindness, such as sharing a book, playing
a game or even by saying, “Thank you.” Love is
about seeing the good in people. We remember
that Jesus’ most important message to us is the
message of love. God wants us to serve and to see
the goodness in everyone we meet.
A loving person….
 Follows the examples of holy people
 Is willing to make sacrifices for the good of
others
 Knows that we are all lovable
 Prays for others and cares deeply about them.
REMINDER: CLASS ORGANIZATION
Staff will be involved in a series of meetings to discuss the
placement of your child for September 2016. We discuss
each child on the basis of academic, social/emotional needs
and decide on the class placement which will best meet these
needs. When the class lists are completed, the Principal will
review them, making any changes if deemed necessary, and
then finalize these lists. If, as a parent you have academic
reasons regarding your child’s placement for September,
please outline your requests in writing to Mrs. Strudwick no
later than May 11th. Placement requests made after this date will be considered but may
not be able to be accommodated.

move out of the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta School area please
let the office know. This will be of great assistance to us, as we
make plans for the coming school year. Mrs. Gordon will be

Updated Student Information
Please remember to provide the school
with any change of information, such as

Catholic School Council Meeting

A great deal of important
information is shared and
discussed at these meetings.
We welcome and
encourage your

What is School Council?
A school council is a recognized body composed of the
principal and representatives of teachers, support staff
and parents who work together in an advisory capacity to
increase the quality of education being provided by the
school.
The fundamental purpose of the school council is to ensure that all students receive the best possible learning
opportunities by engaging all partners in an ongoing process of problem solving and shared decision making.
Benefits of a School Council
EQAO Testing - Grade 3 and Grade 6
The dates for the grade 3 and 6 Provincial Assessment
in Reading, Writing and Mathematics are from May 25–
June 8.
Grade 3’s - May 25 to May 31
Grade 6’s - June 1 to June 8
Attendance is extremely important during the testing
days. Parents are asked to refrain from making appointments during these days. It is also imperative that students arrive to school on time.
Helpful strategies for parents when students are writing
provincial assessments:

Ensure that your son/daughter gets a good night
sleep

Ensure that students pack healthy snacks for
recess

Make this time period as positive and stress free
as possible

Encourage your son/daughter to do the best that
they can
Students should…
 see parents and community members taking a more
active role in the school
 have more opportunities to connect school with the
world outside
 benefit from an increased focus on improving achievement
 have their representatives involved in the decision making process
Parents and community members should…
 have a better understanding about teaching, learning
and the school curriculum
 influence school priorities that affect students
 share a sense of accomplishment as the school and students succeed
 assume increased responsibility for the success of the
school
Teachers and the school should…
 receive increased support and feedback from parents
and community members
 have a better understanding of the community expectations and student needs
 work with partners who understand the teachers’ role
and value their efforts
 gain support for changes needed in the school

Catholic Education Week, May 1– 6
Catholic Education Week will be celebrated from May 1– 6, 2016. Dur ing this week the Catholic
community celebrates the unique and distinctive contribution that Catholic schools make to our students, our community and our province. Catholic Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the
Mission of our Catholic schools as they strive to integrate the Gospel values of Jesus Christ in every
aspect of the school’s life and curriculum.
This year’s theme is “Opening Doors of Mercy”
Five sub-themes, one for each of the five days of Catholic Education Week 2016, help
students to understand the rich meaning of this year’s theme and examples:
Monday: Mercy that Welcomes - Jesus and the Women at the well (John 4:1- 42)
Tuesday: Mercy that Loves - The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)
Wednesday: Mercy that Forgives - The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32)
Thursday: Mercy that Lives the Gospel - Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10)
Friday: Mercy that Rejoices - Healing of the Paralytic (Luke 5:17-26)
Pope Francis has declared 2016 a

Catholic Education Week Prayer
God of Love and compassion,
help us to open the door of mercy in our school
communities,
in our families and in the world.
Let mercy guide our living
and bring us closer to the heart of the gospel.
May we live as Jesus with mercy that welcomes,
loves, forgives
and calls us to live the gospel joyfully.
