As part of our Wellness Physical Activity Plan for this
school year, we are once again ‘Walking for Wellness’!
Our first of six walks took place on December 4.
With Parents, Staff and Student support, various
Divisional age groups left the school early in the morning
to walk their designated routes. Primary students walked
about half a kilometer, while Junior students completed at
least one kilometer and Intermediate students walked
over two kilometers! All this and having fun too!
Prayer for Advent!
Loving God, we seek you in both the light and the
darkness, the silence and the sounds,
the fullness ad the emptiness of this Advent season.

THE SEASON OF ADVENT:
SNOWBALL THROWING:
On Sunday, November 29, the Season of
Advent began. Advent is a period of
simple living and extra prayer. It is a
time to prepare for a new coming of Jesus our
Savior. Advent means “coming”. The first coming
of Jesus, at Bethlehem, will not happen again. At
Christmas, we will remember that coming, but now
we prepare for a new coming. Every time Jesus
comes, it surprises us. It is never exactly the way
we expect it to be. Some people want the Savior to
come with great power to reward them and wipe
out their enemies. But Jesus is a loving and
peaceful Savior. He calls his followers to make the
whole world loving and peaceful. During Advent,
we prepare our homes and our lives for Jesus, the
King of Glory and the Prince of Peace. Advent is a
time to re-evaluate our
priorities, to ‘wake up’ and to
walk with God. It is a time to
thank God for saving us in
Jesus.
In a busy, crowded school
yard, a snowball may become a
dangerous object if thrown.
ADVENT MASS & FOOD, MITTEN & TOYS
DRIVE:
Our Advent Mass, will take place on Tuesday,
December 9 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Providence
in the gym. We are also celebrating the Advent
season with three Advent Liturgies. The Liturgies
will take place on December 7, 14 and 17 at 9:00
am. An invitation flyer was sent home recently to
inform and invite you to each of these Liturgies and
the Mass. Please come join us!
We will also be holding three charity drives: the
FOOD drive, TOYS for TOTS drive and the
MITTENS, SCARVES, HATS, SOCKS and
GLOVES drive. Please help us to ensure that the
families in need are assisted during this festive
season. You can provide us these items any day up
to December 16 with much appreciation!
Please help us by reinforcing
the risks to students of snowball throwing in the
schoolyard!

FRONT DRIVE THROUGH AND PARKING
LOT SAFETY:
Thank you to the drivers who
continue to co-operate in making
our school safe by following the
signs.
SAFETY PROCEDURES REMINDERS:
Parents and Guardians are reminded to
make sure that their children are
dropped off and met outside the
appropriate exit doors for their
classroom(s). No student is allowed to
exit through the front doors unless an
adult has signed them out at the Office!
Meeting your child outside will help to reduce
congestion in the hallways at dismissal and entry times,
as well as to allow the classroom teachers the
opportunity to converse with students at the end of the
day.
Also, please be sure to report to the office when coming
into the school during school hours. If you need to see
your child for any reason, we would be pleased to assist
by calling your child to the office. If absolutely
necessary, you will receive a Visitor’s sticker and the
teacher will be notified that you are on your way to the
classroom.
Parents and Guardians should not be in the school yard at
recesses during the school day, because it is very

EXHIBITION BASKETBALL GAME
BETWEEN “TIMBERWOLVES” AND
POLICE!
To raise enthusiasm for students
to donate new toys for the “TOYS
for TOTS” Toy Drive, we will be
holding a Basketball Exhibition game between
Intermediate students and the Peel Regional
Police on Friday, December 11, 2015 @
12:45pm!
Donations of new toys will be accepted
throughout the month of December up to
December 11th!
All students will take part as spectators!
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES:
There may be days during the
upcoming Winter months when the
inclement weather presents a potential
safety hazard to our children. It is essential that
parents discuss with their children the procedures
they wish them to take to get home safely.
This discussion should include:
a) The appropriate/best route to follow on the walk
home
b) With whom the child should go if parents are not
at home
c) How the child should seek help if wind and snow
are so strong that he/she cannot see the way
Please be advised that we, at the school, do not
have authority to close the school early.
That decision as well as the decision to change or
cancel transportation, is the prerogative of the
Director of Education.
STUDENTS ARRIVING LATE TO SCHOOL:
We have had an increase in the number of
students arriving late in the mornings and after
lunch! It is very important that
students arrive to school on time and
ready to work, as late arrivals disrupt
instructional activities and classroom
routines. Our school day begins at
8:45 in the morning and 12:45 in the afternoon.
Students should arrive at school in plenty of time
to line up with their classes.
Please note that if students arrive after the bell,
they need to enter through the front doors, sign in
as “late” and receive a late slip to be admitted to
class, otherwise they may be recorded as absent.
RECESS RULES AND SCHOOL YARD RULES:
To ensure that students play safely and never endanger
the safety of others during recess time, there are
important rules for all children to follow in our school yard:



building is vandalism)

Rocks, stones and snow stay on the ground
Please review these rules with your children!
ONTARIO EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES BANK:

and Ontario teachers from across the province through the

REMINDER:
CATHOLIC RATEPAYERS—CHECK YOUR
TAX BILL TO ENSURE PROPER TAX
SUPPORT:
If you are a Catholic ratepayer, we urge you to check
your property tax bill to ensure that your support is
directed to your local Catholic school Board, in our
case, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School
Board. If you are a tenant, you can verify your
support by contacting our Admissions Department at
(905) 890-0708, ext. 24511, 24512 or 24519, or your
local Municipal Office.
By ensuring that you are accurately recorded as a
Catholic school supporter, you can help deliver a
powerful message to the government about the level of
support for publically-funded Catholic
Education in Ontario. Also, in order
to be eligible to vote for your local
Catholic school board Trustee, you
must be registered as a separate
school supporter.

It is a self-paced Math game that allows students to
explore and learn Math skills.
