VIRTUE OF THE
MONTH
CONSCIENCE
ON REFLECTION…
What trials or troubles
would I be willing to
put up with in order to
follow my conscience?
God our Creator,
Teach us to appreciate the
virtue of patriotism;
a true and Christian love of our country.
Let us grow in a love for our country
that consists not of following the easy path,
but of working together to make Canada
the land of goodness that it should be.
Let our patriotism be such
that it will not exclude other nations
but include them in a powerful love.
God, we know that You want our world to
be a happy home for the entire
human family.
Please help us to reach out in Christian
kindness, charity and unity to make this
world a better place for all Your children.
Amen
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
We are very proud of our school and enjoy
being here each day with our students.
Through permits, we share access to our school
with community groups in the evening
throughout the week and with the International
Language Program on Saturdays. Our
community partners share in the responsibility
of respecting our space and keeping it free from
damage. During the late evening hours and
over the course of the weekend, we respectfully
ask your assistance in helping to keep our
school safe from vandalism. Should you observe any unusual activities at night, or over the
weekend, Peel Regional Police can be informed
by calling 905-453-3311 and advising them of
the occurrence. Thank you to all for helping to
keep our ‘House of Peace’ safe.
The month of November includes three important days: ALL SAINTS, ALL SOULS
and REMEMBRANCE DAY. These days
serve to remind us to pray for our saints, deceased friends and relatives as well as those
who fought in various campaigns of battle. On
November 11th, we r emember and honour
those we did not know, but whose lives were
lost to help make our lives better. May God
grant them eternal rest and peace.
We look forward to parent-teacher interviews
around student progress on Thursday, November 19th. This is an impor tant par t of the
home-school partnership. Progress reports will
be sent home on Tuesday, November 17th.
A reminder that at any time, should you have
questions about your child’s progress, please
contact their teacher for clarification. Ongoing
communication is a valued part of supporting
our students.
A sincere THANK YOU to the volunteer parents of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School for
supporting the school by counting money and
decorating the gym for the Halloween dance as
well as taking beautiful pictures of this event.
Thanks to the generosity and support of families in our community for supporting our chocolate fundraiser. We have raised over $7000.
Funds raised will be directed back to identified
areas of need to support students and student
learning.

THE VIRTUES INITIATIVE
A key aspect of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District
School Board’s strategic direction is the continued development of a safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive
Catholic school community. As a Catholic community,
we are called to learn, grow, and become more like Jesus. Catholic education provides us the opportunity to
integrate the virtues into our students’ daily activity.
The virtues will be covered every month during announcements, in class during discussions, and at school
Living Our Faith Awards Celebrations. This month, we
will focus on the virtue of Conscience. Below is a list
of the Virtues for each month at-a-glance.
September - Faith
October - Empathy
November - Conscience
December - Hope
January - Self-control
February - Respect
March - Kindness
April - Love
May - Acceptance
June - Fairness
NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY

books to sell to students in
the spring. Proceeds from
the Used Book Sale will go
towards improving our
school library. Book

off at the main office or in a
bin outside the library. The
date for the sale will be announced once enough books have been collected to
sell. Thank you in advance for your support and for
doing your part to reduce, reuse, and recycle. As well,
thank you to the students and their families who have
already donated books and other items to the school.

FIRE EVACUATION POLICY
SHARELIFE SPIRIT WEEK
Sts. Peter and Paul has a detailed fire/emergency evacuation
policy. We will be practicing several times over the course of
the school year. Students must wear shoes in the school building at all times. In the event of an alarm, students will not be
permitted to stop to put on shoes, coats, hats, etc.
We had a successful ShareLife Spirit Week raising
almost $500 to support Catholic agencies in the region.
Student safety is our first priority. Please ensur e that your
child has an indoor pair of shoes at school.

Late Arrival/Early Leaves/ Interruptions
PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Important, serious, exciting, and interesting learning
occurs at Sts. Peter and Paul CS. Staff work diligently
to ensure that time is not wasted, and that all students are
engaged in all possible ways, every moment of
the day. With this in mind, students who arrive
late and / or leave early miss out on many valuable learning opportunities. We ask your
assistance in the following ways:
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School
Board acknowledges the value of the use of
technology for learning. Students are permitted to register and use personal electronic devices (PEDs) on board premises and/or
board sanctioned events for educational
purposes, under the direction of staff and
only with parent/guardian permission. Students may register
their PED for the purpose of connecting to the board wireless
network. Students are required to adhere to the student
“Personal Electronic Device Used with WI-FI Network Student Agreement” (GF 337) and the “Network User Application
and Agreement.” (GF066) Please be advised that the DufferinPeel Catholic District School Board will not be responsible
for any cost incurred through the use of personal data
plans.



Please encourage your children to leave home so
they arrive at the school on time. Our entry bell
rings at 9:00 AM, as such students should not be on
the property earlier than 8:45 AM as this is when
staff supervision on our yard begins. This also reduces the amount of sign– in traffic in our main office which prevents office staff from carrying out
necessary duties. Students are dismissed at 3:30 PM
at which time they are expected to head directly
home.
Whenever possible and appropriate, please try to
schedule appointments, out of school activities, visits, etc. for before or after school hours. This way
your child will not miss out on any aspect of the
classroom / school program we are attempting to
provide for them.
If it is necessary for your child to leave school early
for an appointment, please send a note to their teacher, indicating the time that you will pick him / her
up. Staff will then try to ensure that your child is at
the office, ready to go when you arrive, and we will
not have to interrupt classes to call your child to the
office. A reminder that our recess times are from
11:00 AM to 11:15 AM. , Lunch is from 12:00 PM
to 1:00 PM and afternoon recess is from 2:20 PM to
2:35 PM. Thank you in advance for your understanding and assistance.
It is our expectation at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic
School that all students arrive to school and be in line
with their class by 9:00 AM. When we review records
and notice a concern, we will be in contact with parents
and our school attendance officer to investigate and support the student(s) arriving to school on time. Thank you
in advance for your support!
CUSTODY OF CHILDREN
On rare occasions we are faced with difficult situations
in which non-custodial parents arrive at our school asking to visit with their child or take their child home after
school. We are best able to serve and protect the child
when we are made aware of legal custody arrangements,
visitation rights, and special arrangements. If legal
custody matters affect your family, we respectfully
request that you please ensure that our office and classroom teachers are made aware of custodial agreements
between parents. We require that a copy of all legal
documentation be kept in your child’s school records.
PEDs are to be used responsibly and should not interfere with
learning; their use must comply with the Catholic Code of
Conduct, board policies and procedures. Any personal communications (i.e., phone calls, text messages, etc.) will continue to be directed through the main office. Failur e to
comply with these guidelines may result in a loss of PED privileges and/or any other consequences deemed necessary by
school administration.
The school principal may authorize limited acceptable uses of
personal electronic devices during school-sanctioned activities
for a specific designated purpose outside of instructional spaces and/or in common areas.
Students are responsible for the safety and security of
PEDs at all times and the Board assumes no responsibility
for lost, damaged or stolen devices.
BRINGING VALUABLES TO SCHOOL
We respectfully ask parents to remind their children that
students are not to bring valuable items to school, such as
jewelry, personal games, or sports’ items.
Students are advised not to bring money to school unless it
is for a school trip, pizza days, a specific activity or to purchase a drink from our milk machine. The school cannot
take responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged items.
INCLEMENT WEATHER REMINDERS
Our winter season is slowly approaching. At this
time we would like to remind all students to remember to dress appropriately for the season by
wearing proper cold weather attire which should
include hats, gloves/mitts, winter coats and boots.
When students are dressed properly for the cold weather /
winter conditions, they can go outside and enjoy some fresh
air and activity in comfort. There will be times during the
course of the year where a recess may be shortened or held
indoors due to extreme cold temperatures. Our school board
policy states consideration should be given for keeping students indoors or to shorten the length of time students are
outside when the wind chill reaches –20C.
2016-2017 SECONDARY SCHOOL
INFORMATION SESSION
There will be a parent information session at Father Michael Goetz S.S. on November 25th @ 6:30 PM.

AUTHOR VISIT : PHILIP ROY
Award-winning Canadian author, Philip Roy, will be visiting Sts. Peter and Paul School on Wednesday, November
18th. The author will be presenting to the whole school starting at 9:30am. Parents are welcome to join us. Mr. Roy
is the author of the Submarine Outlaw series. He will be bringing his folk art submarine and helicopter and use these
items to discuss creativity and recycling. He will read from his Happy the Pocket Mouse series. He will then continue
with the Grade 3-8 students and share his longer, chapter book readings, followed by a Question & Answer period.
Students will have an opportunity to order Philip Roy's books and have them personalized. You can find out more
about Philip’s books by visiting: http://philiproy.ca. You can also read the first chapter of all of his novels through a
link on the “Books” page: (http://philiproy.ca/books/), and see illustrations from his Happy the Pocket Mouse picture
book series via http://philiproy.ca/happy-the-pocket-mouse/.
Advance purchase forms will be available prior to the author's visit, and are due Monday, November 16th. At the end
of the presentation, if books have been ordered in advance, Philip will distribute pre-autographed books. If interested
in purchasing books on the day of the visit, please bring cash or a cheque (payable to Philip Roy) to school for the
books that you would like to purchase on Wednesday, November 18th.
We look forward to welcoming author Philip Roy to Sts. Peter and Paul C.S.
PLEASE BE PATIENT…
As part of our Safe School Arrival policy, visitors are required to ring our front door bell in order to gain access to the main building. Our secretarial staff work diligently to open the front door in a timely fashion for all visitors. Circumstances may occasionally
cause a brief delay before the front door can be attended to. We respectfully ask your patience in the rare instance that this may
happen to you. During peak times of the day (i.e., recess, lunch time, end of day etc.) the office is a busy place and from time to
time situations may occur that prevent our secretaries from opening the doors immediately. Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.
STUDENT SAFETY
Parents are welcomed at Sts. Peter and Paul, and parental participation in the life of our school is valued and encouraged. As part
of our Safe-School Plan, we respectfully remind parents that ALL VISITS to the school must begin in the main office. Parents are
asked to sign in at the main office and will be assisted with the purpose for their visit at that point. Parents must not approach OR
interact with children on the yard at any time. It is important to remember that although you may be known to your child, you are
not known to the vast majority of our student population, and may be viewed as a stranger which can be unsettling to students;
especially young ones. If you have any concerns, you are respectfully asked to begin your visit in the main office. Parents are
also reminded if there is a concern between students, that the appropriate place to begin to address the concern is with the classroom teacher or with the Principal. It is our expectation that parents and visitors remain in the office and are not wandering the
hallways. Thank you for your understanding and support in this important area of student safety. Should you require clarification, please contact Ms. Burtnick at the main office.
NO CHILD WITHOUT—FREE MEDICALERT MEMBERSHIP FOR STUDENTS AT STS. PETER AND PAUL
The Canadian MedicAlert Foundation has developed a program to protect children and provide school
administration with the help they need to address concerns about students living with chronic medical
conditions, allergies or special needs.
This program is called No Child Without. It was developed to ensure children across Canada from Junior Kindergarten up to their
14th birthday received MedicAlert protection at no cost to the parent, school or Board of Education. The program follows the
child should they move to another school in Canada. There is a significant benefit to the school because No Child Without blends
in with Sts. Peter and Paul school’s safety plan and illustrates the importance of children’s health and safety.
As a national charitable organization, MedicAlert has been protecting people for 45 years through customized medical identification. Over one million Canadians have chosen MedicAlert to provide them with protection and peace of mind in case of a medical
emergency. The program is being funded by the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation, Lions Clubs across Canada, grants from the
Government of Canada and corporate and local businesses.
Students receive a choice of a bracelet or necklace listing their medical conditions, allergies and/or medications with their identification number, a wallet card, access to the 24 Hour Emergency Hotline, notification of personal emergency contacts at the time of
emergency and a follow-up with parents after the emergency call is made to the Hotline.
No Child Without brochures can be obtained from the school main office for new registrations. For those students with medical
concerns already registered with the school, brochures will be sent home. . If parents or guardians choose to participate in the program, contact MedicAlert directly after receiving the brochure. Your child’s MedicAlert identification will be sent within three
weeks.

‘REVITALIZE THIS’ WALK TORONTO TOUR - NOVEMBER 2015
THE RIVERWOOD CONSERVANCY - OCTOBER 2014
In Riverwood, we got to plant garlic after that we go to watch them make pesto. Once they were
done, we got to eat a lot of it with tomatoes. It was really good. We ate it with a cracker. We did
Science. So what we did, we put rocks into the container. Once we were done, we put soil into the
container. After that, we poked holes in the soil and then planted the seeds in the soil. By Nathan
