Holy Week is the week preceding Easter and the
final week of Lent. Holy Week begins with Palm
Sunday and ends with Holy Saturday, the day
before Easter Sunday. Holy Week includes Holy
Thursday (also known as Maundy Thursday) and
Good Friday, which, together with Holy Saturday,
are known as the Triduum.
As Holy Week is solemn and sorrowful, it also
anticipates the joy of Easter through the
recognition of God's goodness in sending His Son
to die for our salvation. On Tues. Mar. 22nd the
entire school will be participating in a Lenten
Retreat, ending with a school wide Liturgy. Also,
during Holy Week, all parents are welcome to join
us as we prepare to commemorate the passion of
Christ for the presentation of the Stations of the
Cross, Thurs., Mar. 24 at 1:00 pm.

The province has designated May 25th to June
8th as the time for administering EQAO
provincial assessments. We ask that school day
appointments for Grade 3 & 6 students be
avoided. For parents interested in more
information about these assessments, there is a
website made available by the province,
www.eqao.com. The website has parent
resources, samples of the assessment questions
for providing practice and support for your
child, and other related information.

Fire and Lockdown Drills
As part of DPCDSB’s safety protocol, every
school is required to hold three fire drills each
term in order to familiarize students with
procedures to follow in the case of an
emergency. Protocol also requires one
lockdown drill practice must take place each
term. The procedure will be initiated should an
emergency exist on school property or in the
surrounding neighborhood. Listed below are
the procedures that our students follow for the
lockdown drill. Upon hearing the
announcement, “Initiate Lockdown
Procedures”;
 The lockdown bell sequence will
repeatedly ring
 All students and staff inside the
building will remain in their classrooms
 Students in the hallway or washroom
will go to the closest classroom
 Students in classrooms will remain in
their locked classroom, in an area that is
out of sightline of windows and doors
 All students and staff who are outside
the building are to move quickly to our
evacuation site
 The announcement, “Lockdown
Procedures Complete”, will indicate the
completion of the drill.
Our students have demonstrated excellent skill
during these practices.
SMB
Dance-a-thon
Our Catholic School Council is organizing a
spring dance-a-thon! This fund raiser not only
encourages physical fitness but it also allows
students to participate in a fun and exciting
event. If anyone is able to donate prizes for
this event, please contact the school.
BEE GREEN ECO TEAM
The Bee Green Eco Team has been preparing
for Earth Hour, which takes place on Saturday
March 19th. SMB will recognize Earth hour on
Monday March 21st from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.
During this time, classes will participate in
activities prepared by the Eco Team. Earth
Hour is more than an event. It is a movement
that has achieved massive environmental
impact, and SMB is proud to contribute to
making a change. For more information on
how you can get involved, visit

STINGERS
Basketball!
Safe Arrival and Attendance
On February 12, 2016 the
junior girls and boys
basketball teams played
their final tournament at
St. Anthony School. Each
team member had great sportsmanship and
put a lot of effort into each game. Coaches Ms.
Campagna and Mr. Guiry were very
proud of our team members: Abigail A., Alissa
N., Nora A., Karen V., Victoria S., Erica A.,
Kassia I., Merissa F. and Bianca d. on the girl’s
team and Aiden R., Aiden S., Conal W., Daniel
I., Luke S., Zackary G., Matthew M., Ethan R.,
and Hector V. on the boy’s team. A special
thank you goes out to Ms. Oriuwa for helping
to coach the team. Way to go SMB!
French Winter Carnival
On February 24th and 25th, we celebrated Le
Carnaval d’hiver (French Winter Carnival) at
SMB! Students participated in various events
around the school such as a skating relay,
spoon and egg race, hockey, and a snowman
competition. We also had Café Bourgeoys
where some intermediate students
demonstrated their French skills and served
the classes their orders. It was a fun celebration
at our school and we are looking forward to
next year’s carnival!
Attendance of students is tracked first thing
each morning and afternoon to ensure that
every student has arrived safely. We ask that
you communicate with us whenever your child
is absent. Even on snowy days when busses
are cancelled but schools are still open, it is
very important to notify the school of your
child’s absence to ensure they are accounted
for and safe. Thank you for your cooperation
with this very important matter!
Valentine’s
Dance
Thank you to Erica,
Loralei and Solange
from Mr. Guiry’s
class, for coming
forward with the
idea of a Valentine’s Day Dance and
organizing this event for the entire school to
enjoy!
Loonie for Love
Thank you to all students who contributed a
loonie at the Valentine’s Dance. We were able
to raise $333.00 for SICK KIDS HOSPITAL
FOUNDATION! Special thanks goes to
Saiorse, Karen, Olivia, Alissa, Lexi, Railey,
Ysabelle, Selina and Marve Grace from grades
4 and 5 who created posters and made special
announcements to promote this fundraiser.
