Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday and ends with Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday. Holy Week includes Holy Thursday (also known as Maundy Thursday) and Good Friday, which, together with Holy Saturday, are known as the Triduum. As Holy Week is solemn and sorrowful, it also anticipates the joy of Easter through the recognition of God's goodness in sending His Son to die for our salvation. On Tues. Mar. 22nd the entire school will be participating in a Lenten Retreat, ending with a school wide Liturgy. Also, during Holy Week, all parents are welcome to join us as we prepare to commemorate the passion of Christ for the presentation of the Stations of the Cross, Thurs., Mar. 24 at 1:00 pm. 1|Page Virtue of the Month – Kindness Grade 2 First Holy Communion Sunday, April 10, 2016 2:30 p.m. St. Anthony of Padua Church Sacrament of Reconciliation On the morning of Tuesday, March 8th students from grades 3 through to 8 will be receiving the sacrament of confession. Protocol also requires one lockdown drill practice must take place each term. The procedure will be initiated should an emergency exist on school property or in the surrounding neighborhood. Listed below are the procedures that our students follow for the lockdown drill. Upon hearing the announcement, “Initiate Lockdown Procedures”; The lockdown bell sequence will repeatedly ring All students and staff inside the building will remain in their classrooms Students in the hallway or washroom will go to the closest classroom Students in classrooms will remain in their locked classroom, in an area that is out of sightline of windows and doors All students and staff who are outside the building are to move quickly to our evacuation site The announcement, “Lockdown Procedures Complete”, will indicate the completion of the drill. Our students have demonstrated excellent skill during these practices. SMB Dance-a-thon Our Catholic School Council is organizing a spring dance-a-thon! French Winter Carnival On February 24th and 25th, we celebrated Le Carnaval d’hiver (French Winter Carnival) at SMB! Students participated in various events around the school such as a skating relay, spoon and egg race, hockey, and a snowman competition. We also had Café Bourgeoys where some intermediate students demonstrated their French skills and served the classes their orders. It was a fun celebration at our school and we are looking forward to next year’s carnival! Attendance of students is tracked first thing each morning and afternoon to ensure that every student has arrived safely. We ask that you communicate with us whenever your child is absent. Even on snowy days when busses are cancelled but schools are still open, it is very important to notify the school of your child’s absence to ensure they are accounted for and safe. Thank you for your cooperation with this very important matter!
