Prayer of Thanksgiving
Father all-powerful,
Your gifts of love are countless
and Your goodness infinite.
On Thanksgiving Day
we come before You
with gratitude for Your kindness:
open our hearts to concern
for our fellow men and women,
so that we may share
Your gifts in loving service.
We ask this through our
Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
Who lives and reigns with You
and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
As the fall colours begin to beautify
our community and as we prepare
for our family traditions at
Thanksgiving, we must take time
to reflect on and appreciate all the
beautiful gifts that God has
bestowed upon us.
On behalf of the staff of St.
Matthew School, we wish you all a
joyful and bountiful Thanksgiving .
Amen
~

Virtue of the Month: Empathy
Stay Connected

@DPCDSBSchools For the
latest board news and information.
This month we will focus on the
virtue of empathy. God has given us
the ability to form connections with
each other - to live together. Empathy
helps us to connect and live together
in safe, caring, inclusive communities.
We understand empathy to mean the
ability to identify with and feel other
people’s concerns. We believe that in
a faith community we are nothing
without relationships. We are many
parts of one body.
THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
Thanksgiving is a time when we are called upon to help the less fortunate in our community. The students of St. Matthew school support the needs of others within our local community by collecting non perishable food items
to donate to those that are less fortunate.
Please send in donations with your child from
October 6 to 15, 2015. All food collected will
be given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society and
distributed to help families have a festive
Thanksgiving celebration.

PUPIL ACCOMMODATION REVIEW POLICY PUBLIC CONSULTATION
The Ministry of Education released the new Pupil Accommodation Review Guideline (PARG) in March 2015.
This guideline sets expectations for all school boards on managing and reviewing underutilized school space, including potential school closures, and for the greater coordination and sharing of planning related information between school boards and other community partners.
The guideline requires all school boards in the province to develop or revise Pupil Accommodation Review Policies and to invite public input into the policy before it is finalized.
A survey to collect feedback on the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s draft amended Policy 6.51 Pupil
Accommodation Review will be available for review and comment on the Board’s website at www.dpcdsb.org until
4:30 pm on Friday, October 16, 2015. Supporting documents will also be available for reference and review. Please
consider reviewing and providing input on this policy.
PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES ON BOARD PREMISES AND/OR BOARD SANCTIONED
EVENTS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES:
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board acknowledges the value of the use of technology for learning.
Students are permitted to register and use personal electronic devices (PEDs) on board premises and/or board
sanctioned events for educational purposes, under the direction of staff and only with parent/guardian permission.
Students may register their PED for the purpose of connecting to the board wireless network. Students are required to adhere to the student “Personal Electronic Device Used with WI-FI Network Student Agreement” (GF
337) and the “Network User Application and Agreement.” (GF066) Please be advised that the Dufferin-Peel
Catholic District School Board will not be responsible for any cost incurred through the use of personal data
plans.
PEDs are to be used responsibly and should not interfere with learning; their use must comply with the Catholic
Code of Conduct, board policies and procedures. Any personal communications (i.e., phone calls, text
messages, etc.) will continue to be directed through the main office. Failure to comply with these guidelines
may result in a loss of PED privileges and/or any other consequences deemed necessary by school administration.
The school principal may authorize limited acceptable uses of personal electronic
devices during school-sanctioned activities, for a specific designated purpose outside
of instructional spaces and/or in common areas.
Students are responsible for the safety and security of PEDs at all times and the
Board assumes no responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen devices.
TERRY FOX WALK
On Sept. 30th our school participated in the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope. The Grade 8 students led a tribute in honour of our Canadian hero. A big thank you to all the parents , grandparents and volunteers who came to help supervise this annual event. We raised $1000 for the
Terry Fox Foundation.
HALLOWEEN
It is that time of the year when our children will want to visit their neighbours for trick or
treating. In school, we will remind them about the safety rules so that they can both enjoy the evening and stay safe. In addition, we will also be stressing the fact that the most
important aspect of our activities at this time of year is the celebration of two great Feast
Days. As you know, on November 1st, we honour all the Saints of our Church and we
are encouraged to pray that we might all emulate their example in our daily lives. On
the following day, November 2nd, we will remember all those who have gone before us in
faith by celebrating the Feast of All Souls. Again, we are reminded that while those who have died are out of
sight, they are not out of mind or beyond our prayers. Thus, just as we pray for each other in life, it is consoling and a fact of faith that we can be one with them in prayer after death.
Throughout our school activities we will focus on these essential aspects of the two great Feasts. However, we
will not dampen two great gifts which all children have, an active imagination and a fascination with the afterlife. Hence, students will not be denied the fun of dressing up on October 30th, however, masks and weapons
are not allowed and long costumes that drag on the ground are not permitted for safety reasons. In this way
we can be sure to enjoy the day and promote the safety of all students. A Halloween Dance for all students
will take place on this day.
A reminder to parents that students are allowed to bring their own allergen –free special snack for this celebration but
no food will be shared with other students.
