A CHRISTMAS PRAYER
Dec. 2015 Special Edition
Newsletter
Mississauga Brampton
Oh God, whose mighty Son was born
in Bethlehem those days long ago, lead
us to that same poor place, where
Mary laid her tiny Child, And as we
look on in wonder and praise, make
us welcome him in all new life, see him
in the poor, and care for his
handiwork, the earth, the sky and the
sea. Oh God, bless us again in your
great love. We pray for this through
Christ our Lord. AMEN!

Fourth Week of Advent
Suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising
God-Luke 2:3 This week we add the LOVE candle and as all four candles blaze,
we recall the light of heaven’s glory and the celestial army sent by God to share
his good tidings of great joy. Basking in this light we join the ranks of that host.
For we are members of God’s liberating face-sent to spread the good news
throughout the earth.

Sacramental Enrolment St. Jerome Parish
Weekend Mass
As we continue our Christmas preparations, we are
reminded of our many blessings. I want to thank each of
you for your support, cooperation, and kindness
expressed in so many ways at St. Monica School.
The success of a school in providing the richest possible
environment for learning depends not only upon teaching
professionals and support staff of the highest quality
who are dedicated and care about children, but also on a
close cooperative relationship between school, home,
church, school board and community agencies/businesses.
Again our Pastor-Fr. Jan continues to inspire us in many
ways, our Advent Mass at the church, visits to our
school, etc., his presence highlights and promotes parish,
school , home connections. Thanks to our Share Life
Committee under the lead of J. Posa, S. Guilherme and T.
Spremulli for coordinating our Share Life Christmas Sale,
we raised $ 1,200.00 for share life. Our student faith
ambassadors under the lead of J. Conway raised $620.00
for a refugee family.
Most recently our entire school followed our collective
Advent Calendar-thanks to our student faith
ambassadors under the lead of J. Conway, T. Collier, A.
Tac and C. Briganti. Our primary Christmas Nativity
Concert was highly successful and well attended. Our
talented students showcased their talents under the lead
of A. Tac and M. Heitzner. Special acknowledgement to
our SNM students who performed exceptionally well in
“Mary Did You Know!”
This is a fabulous school with an amazing
group of individuals. I sincerely thank
everyone for being true
partners in catholic education. Thank you all for
assisting the dedicated St. Monica staff to provide the
best possible education for your children, our students!

Collecting iPod Shuffles
We are collecting iPod Shuffles to benefit Alzheimer patients. If you have
an iPod Shuffle at home that you are not using and are willing to donate,
please send it to school with your child. We will make sure that it gets to an
Alzheimer patient through the iPod Project at Western University. Music is
providing these adults with a positive experience and a reduction in
anxiety. Please help us spread happiness.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Candy Cane
The story is told of a candy maker in Indiana who wanted
to make a candy that would remind others of Jesus, so he
made the Christmas Candy Cane. He incorporated several
symbols of the birth, ministry and death of Jesus.
He began with a stick of pure white hard candy – white to
symbolize the virgin birth and the sinless nature of Jesus;
and the hard candy to symbolize the Solid Rock- the foundation of the Church, and the firmness of the promises of
God.
The Candy maker made the candy in the form of a “J” to represent the beloved name of
the Saviour, who came to the earth to die on our behalf. It could also represent the staff
of the “Good Shepherd” with which He reaches down into the world to lift up and help the
fallen lambs who have gone astray.
Thinking that the candy was somewhat plain, the candy maker stained it with red stripes.
He used three small stripes to show the stripes of the scourging by whips that Jesus received. The large red stripe was for the blood shed by Christ on the Cross-where He died
to pay for our sins so that all who trust in Him could have eternal life.
Unfortunately, the candy became known as a candy cane, a meaningless decoration seen at
Christmas time. But the meaning is still there for those who “have eyes to see and ears to
hear”.
Undoubtedly, the candy maker would love to have this symbol again be used to remind people of the wonder of Jesus the real meaning of Christmas.
So next time we see a candy cane, we will see the
‘J’ - for Jesus!
