Come, Holy Spirit
Spirit of God, Spirit of the Risen Christ,
Be with us today and always.
Be our Light, our Guide, and our Comforter
Be our Strength, our Courage,
And our Sanctifier. May this new year be a time
Of deep spiritual growth for us,
A time for welcoming Your graces and gifts,
A time for forgiving freely and unconditionally,
A time for growing in virtue and goodness.
Come Holy Spirit.
Be with us today and always.
Amen
Our Virtue for January…… Self-Control
This month, we celebrate the virtue of self control. We will learn that:
A person with self control…
 Is patient
 Knows how to wait her/his turn
 Can calm herself/himself down and think before reacting to situations
 Knows how to avoid physical aggression
 Can think things through and do what is best for everyone
When we use self-control we can make our school a safe, caring and inclusive
place to live and to learn.
Please join us on January 6th @ 1:30 PM for our Christmas mass with
Father Vito.

Christmas Food Drive
Congratulations to all the students and families at Father
Francis McSpiritt School for donations of canned goods.
Students and parents had the opportunity to drop off a nonperishable items. The Knight’s Table, a charitable
organization that donates to families within our community,
will be dispersing the food to our families in need. Thank you
to the staff and students who made this event a success and a
big thank you to our Youth Faith Ambassadors and their
teachers for coordinating the event.
Charity is the primary response to our call to live as Catholics
and provides us an opportunity to serve others. Thank you for
your tremendous support.
A MESSAGE FROM FATHER VITO
Dear parents, students, staff and communities of our parish schools at St. Patrick’s:
Greetings and Blessings to all. Best wishes for a holy New Year, filled with goodness and love for you,
your loved ones and the whole world. This is indeed a blessed year as we celebrate the Extraordinary
Jubilee of Mercy, each one of us invited to reflect on the great mercy and love of God and to become
ourselves bearers of love and mercy to all.
We are blessed at St. Patrick’s Church to hold one of the designated “Holy Doors” of the Jubilee in our
Archdiocese. We have already started witnessing people coming from elsewhere to spend time in
prayer in our church, and we will continue to welcome many, praying with them and praying for them.
It is my hope that each one of you, as a family, may take the opportunity to come and spend a few
minutes in pilgrimage and prayer, thanking God for the blessings in your life, and seeking blessings for
others and for all. During the Jubilee Year our church will remain open every day from 7 a.m. To 9 p.m.
I wish to extend my congratulations to the families of those students who have been confirmed, and
look forward to continue preparing and celebrating with those yet to be confirmed, and the children
preparing for the Sacraments of First Confession and First Communion.
We are also happy to welcome in our midst a refugee family from Syria. We ask you to pray for them
and for all who suffer worldwide. May everything we do for one another truly receive God’s blessings
upon each one us and upon all our families. Once again, a blessed New Year to all.
With friendship,
Fr. Vito Marziliano, Pastor.

Pediculosis (Head Lice)
We would like to bring to your attention a problem which occurs from time to time in each school. The
problem head lice (Pediculosis). Unfortunately, in recent years, head lice have become increasingly common
throughout North America. They are parasites which have been common among human beings for centuries.
They are not connected in any way to dirt or neglect. Anyone can be infested. In order to control these
pests, we shall follow the following procedures and request your full cooperation. If cases are found in the
classroom, we shall inform parents in that class. We would request that you check your own children and if
you find them, we ask that you inform the school and contact the Peel Public Health Department for
treatment information. If your child does get head lice, we will ask you to keep your child out of school until
after they have been treated with the correct shampoo and their hair is entirely clear of both lice and nits
(eggs). Students will not be permitted to return to class until they have been checked by the office. If we all
cooperate in these procedures, we may not entirely escape outbreaks, but we will be able to bring them under
control more quickly. For additional information, guidance, and any questions please contact Peel Public
Health Department at 905-799-7700. As well you may find the following website useful www.headlice.org.

P.A.L.S. @ McSpiritt: Thanks to Ms. Howarth, our Child and Youth Worker here at the
school, we have the P.A.L.S Program up and running at McSpiritt during recess time.

regardless of their gender, size or ability.
The objectives of the program are to increase physical activity, reduce conflict, reduce incidence of
bullying in the playground and provide leadership opportunities for students. Students have chosen to
become leaders to the students in grades 1-3. They are taught age appropriate games in order to
achieve success.
Students will work with a staff member to lead these activities during their assigned lunch hour date.
This will be an ongoing program until June.
In order to become a leader fin the P.A.L.S. program students have attended a training session to help
them become positive Playground Activity Leaders in the School.
