Job Description
JOB FUNCTION
University of Houston Ambassadors are premier student leaders that work within the Office of Admissions. Ambassadors
are responsible for welcoming prospective students and guests to the University of Houston, as well as providing quality
customer service to current students seeking assistance in the Welcome Center. The Ambassador program is a unique
opportunity for student leaders to engage in on-campus employment while gaining transferable skills which enhance
individual personal and professional goals. Ambassadors promote school spirit and a positive image of UH through
campus tours, recruitment events, and through communication with prospective students by phone, by e-mail, and inperson.
JOB DUTIES
 Provide leadership to the University of Houston community through service as a positive role model of a true
Houston Cougar to potential students.
 Work as a student leader in promoting the University of Houston and providing accurate information to potential
new students and family members.
 Work productively and cooperatively with all members of the University community to effectively implement the
tours, recruitment programs, and admissions requirements.
 Serve as a positive role-model and ambassador on behalf of the University of Houston.
 Schedule and provide group and individual campus and housing tours to university guests
 Assist with the UH Admissions and enrollment services counters and provide accurate information in regards to
UH Admissions, Scholarships and Financial Aid, Financial Services, and Registration and Academic Records.
 Communicate with prospective students via phone and email in reply to questions and requests to the admissions
email and campus visits email accounts.
 Responsible for maintaining knowledge of admissions deadlines and requirements.
 Actively participate in all assigned training sessions, tours, and recruitment programs.
 Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Prospective and New Student Programs staff.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be a current University of Houston full-time undergraduate student and have and maintain a cumulative
GPA of at least 2.5 to apply and remain part of this organization. Also, you must have yearlong availability (Spring 2016Spring 2017).
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary for UH Ambassadors is $8.00 an hour for 20 hours a week. Benefits include the ambassador polo and other
uniform necessities and priority registration for enrollment.
REQUIRED DATES AND EVENTS
Ambassadors are required to work a total of 20 hours a week within the Prospective and New Student Programs
office. Ambassadors are also responsible for providing Saturday tours from 11am-1pm. (Ambassadors do not work
every Saturday; there is a rotation of Saturday tour staff.) Ambassadors are also required to work all special
events.
MEETING/RECRUITMENT PROGRAM DATES
 Summer Conference Dates-A schedule of summer conference dates will be provided to you during your interview
time*
*Not everyone is required to attend/work.
TRAINING
Ambassadors are required to attend bi-weekly trainings (2 a month) in order to uphold the standard and
procedures of the UH Ambassador Program.

your favorite area of campus, a building you have classes in, etc. The maximum time allotted for the video
is 3 minutes and does not to be professional recorded (using a device such as a smart phone is acceptable).
