A PRAYER OF THANKS
Thank you, God, for all of the gifts you have given
us!
Please give us the tools we need to do your work:
Give us patience with ourselves;
Give us love toward our brothers and sisters;
Give us an open heart of forgiveness;
Give us a willingness to do your will.
Help us to spread the Gospel by doing good
deeds and praising your name.
Prevent us, Lord, from denying you in the name of
greed and earthly honour.
Help us to keep a holy and reverent attitude
towards your creation,
And give us the compassion to always seek you in
others.
Holy god, you are good to us, and we praise you
for your holy works.
Amen

PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and
support during the first month of school. Adjusting to
a new school or new teacher can be a trying time for
young students. We thank you for working with us to
make this transition as smooth as possible.
We encourage and welcome parents and family
members to celebrate our school’s faith life on
the following dates:
St. Jude Open House was a huge success. Thanks to
all the parents/guardians who were able to join us. I
encourage all parents to get involved in your child’s
learning and school.
On behalf of the St. Jude staff I would like to wish all
families a safe and joyous Thanksgiving weekend.
God Bless,

VIRTUE OF
EMPATHY
THE
MONTH
–
God wants us to care about everyone’s feelings.
An empathetic person…





listens when people speak
notices when someone is upset and tries to
help
can name her/his feelings
can see a situation from another person’s
point of view
accepts that others have different
perspectives
Judge your neighbours’ feelings by your own and let
every matter be thoughtful.
There are days in our lives that we may see others
come to school sad, afraid, frustrated, or even angry.
To live the virtue of EMPATHY is to not judge those
people because we never know what others are
holding in their hearts. In your everyday life try to
remember that you may not always understand what
others are feeling, but you can always be a good
friend.

ATTENTION FRENCH IMMERSION
STUDENTS
AND
PARENTS
STARTING ON OCTOBER 5 TH
end of the Kiss’n Ride lane to unload their child(ren).
This creates a much safer unloading of children.
This year, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic DSB has
purchased a license with VoilaLearning.com which
provides an online-tutoring service. The license was
purchased based on the number of French Immersion
students in the board; however, the service is
extended to all FSL students, including Extended and
Core French students. For instructions on joining the
service, follow these instructions:
The first school council meeting will take place on
Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the
Library. At this meeting we will nominate individuals
for executive positions (i.e. Chair, Secretary, and
Treasurer). All are welcome to attend.

KISS ‘N RIDE
Parents who drive their child(ren) to school are
reminded that they should not to park at the front of
the school at any time. This includes stopping to drop
off lunches or to pick up a child.
For the safety of all children, we ask that you park at
the church next door or in an available school parking
space. Please do not enter the staff parking lot
between 8:30-8:45 a.m. and 3:00 – 3:20 p.m. each
day, as our children are arriving/dismissing through
the parking lot or the walkway at this time.
The gate to the staff parking lot will close at 8:30 am
each morning and re-open again at 8:45. When the
bell rings at the end of the day, the gate will close at
3:00 and reopen at approximately 3:20 pm.
Once again, Sts. Cyril & Methodius Parish is allowing
our parent community access to their parking lot
before and after school. Please enter and exit the
church’s parking via Nahani Way.
For the safety of students and parents please do not
walk across the Kiss’n Ride lanes. This creates a
potentially dangerous situation whereby a vehicle
may not see your child or you and could result in a
adverse outcome.
Thank you to all students and parents who are using
the sidewalks to enter and exit school property. As
well, thank you, to all parents that are driving to the
SCHOOL COUNCIL
REMINDER: SCHOOL YARD
SUPERVISION
The main schoolyard as well as the kindergarten
yard are supervised beginning at 8:30am.
Parents should plan the arrival of their children to
coincide with this time and should not arrive
before this time!
Supervision is not provided to students prior to
8:30 am. Thank you for your attention to this
matter!!
STUDENT VERIFICATION FORMS
If you have not had an opportunity to return your
child’s student verification form please do so as soon
as possible. It is very important that we have all
accurate information in the event that we have to
contact you. Thank you in advance.

food items and place them in the boxes in the atrium.
The St. Vincent De Paul Society will collect the food
items and distribute them to families in need in the
community. Let's make a difference St. Jude!

Apr 26, May 10, May 24, June 7, June 21
St. Jude School begins promptly at 8:45 a.m.
Students and parents are reminded that each student
has a responsibility to be on time. Arriving late
disturbs the other students, interferes with the
program and centres attention on the student who is
late. If students are late they are to enter the school
through the main front doors of the school and go to
the office to receive a late slip. Please help us teach
the value of being punctual—a necessary life skill.
Please note no pizza will be sold on the day of
‘Pizza Day’. All pizza orders are to be pre-ordered.
OCTOBER 5, 2015 - WORLD

HALLOWEEN SAFETY
HOME/SCHOOL COMMUNICATION
As Halloween approaches, children are excited by
the events of the season. Please remind your
child(ren) about these important safety tips prior to
“Trick-or-Treating”
Parents and teachers are encouraged to contact each
other immediately if there are problems or areas in
need of clarification.
 Avoid masks to ensure clear sight
 Wear light colours or reflective bands to
increase visibility
 Carry a flashlight for use on darker streets or
pathways
 Never trick-or-treat alone; go with an adult or
older sibling
 Stay away from cars and friendly strangers
in cars
 Watch out for cars and look both ways
before crossing streets
 Always have an adult check your candy
before you eat
 Respect other people’s property
 Start early and be home before 8:30pm
SAFETY TIPS: WALKING
TO SCHOOL
In the olden days, children walked to
school all the time from great distances. Certainly
times have changed, but there are safe ways to
recapture this healthy tradition and the benefits of
doing so are many!
Walking Safely
 Walk with your child to school
 Organize with your neighbours to have
children walk together
 Teach your children the safe way to cross
streets and intersections (use sidewalks,
make eye contact with motorists, and make
sure vehicles have stopped completely, cross
with crossing guards where available).
Benefits of Walking
Good exercise, a healthy part of the day for your
child—and you!
Less vehicles in school zones, creating a safer
cleaner environment.
Walking in groups fosters friendships and builds safer
communities.
Please do not wait until interviews if you have a
concern!!
SPOOK-A-THON 2015
On Friday, October 30, students at St. Jude School
will be involved in various age appropriate Halloween
activities. This year, all students in grades FDK-3
are encouraged to dress in a Halloween costume.
Please keep in mind that all costumes must be
appropriate to our Christian school climate ~ for
safety reasons no masks or props are allowed.
All grade 4-8 students are encouraged to dress in
orange and black. We will be having a spook-a-thon
dance on this day. All students will participate. We
are asking that each student in FDK-Gr. 8 send in a
donation of $2.00 to help in our Share Life
Fundraising.
PROGRESS REPORTS!
As you are aware, the reporting process
has changed from three formal reports to one
progress report and two formal report cards the
progress report will go home on November 17th.
There will be interviews on November 19th in the
evening by teacher / parent request only. The fall
progress report card encourages early and ongoing
communication between you and your child’s teacher.
It will tell you how well your child is developing the
learning skills and work habits we know are essential
for success. It will continue to report on all academic
subjects—such as language, math, social studies,
science and technology—but instead of assigning a
grade or mark, it will tell you how well your child is
progressing: “very well”, “well” or “with difficulty”. It
will highlight strengths and areas to improve before
evaluations are completed.

ST. JUDE DID IT AGAIN FOR
TERRY FOX!!
A BIG thank you to the entire St. Jude
community for supporting our Terry
Fox National School Run which took place here at St.
Jude on Wednesday, September 30th. On that day
students, staff and parents walked and jogged to
commemorate 35 years since Terry Fox’s Marathon
of Hope began in 1980. Thanks to the generosity of
the school community, we were able to surpass our
goal of $750 and we raised $788.15! All monies will
be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation on behalf of
St. Jude School. We received many pledges online
so thank you to those families too. We are proud of
our contributions to cancer research and we THANK
YOU for supporting us in keeping Terry Fox’s dream
alive!
PUPIL ACCOMMODATION REVIEW
POLICY PUBLIC CONSULTATION
The Ministry of Education released the new Pupil
Accommodation Review Guideline (PARG) in March
2015. This guideline sets expectations for all school
boards on managing and reviewing underutilized
school space, including potential school closures, and
for the greater coordination and sharing of planning
related information between school boards and other
community partners. The guideline requires all
school boards in the province to develop or revise
Pupil Accommodation Review Policies and to invite
public input into the policy before it is finalized.
A survey to collect feedback on the Dufferin-Peel
Catholic District School Board’s draft amended Policy
6.51 Pupil Accommodation Review will be available
for review and comment on the Board’s website at
www.dpcdsb.org until 4:30 pm on Friday, October 16,
2015. Supporting documents will also be available for
reference and review. Please consider reviewing and
providing input on this policy.
INTERNATIONAL
SCHOOL DAY
WALK
TO
On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, St. Jude will be
participating in the International Walk To School Day!
There are many advantages to walking to school,
including increased physical activity, reducing the
amount of traffic congestion around the school,
improving air quality, and helping to ensure that the
streets are safer for pedestrians. The website below
will help you to get an estimate of how long it will take
to walk to school, as well as tell you how much carbon
dioxide you will be eliminating from the air:

This is also the first of many initiatives of the St. Jude
ecoTeam. With your
help, we can improve
the environment and at
the same time improve
the health of our
children! Stay tuned for
more information from
the ecoTeam!

We Give Thanks
Our Father in Heaven,
We give thanks for the pleasure
Of gathering together for this occasion.
We give thanks for this food
Prepared by loving hands.
We give thanks for life,
The freedom to enjoy it all
And all other blessings.
As we partake of this food,
We pray for health and strength
To carry on and try to live as You would have us.
This we ask in the name of Christ,
Our Heavenly Father.
