Principal’s Message
Traditionally, the month of May is spent in prayer and reflection celebrating the mother of Jesus, Mary.
We are enjoying the re-opening of our field and the warmer weather we are now receiving. The kindergarten children are enjoying their outdoor learning centre and playground filled with interactive activities.
And fill our world, once again with colour
We ask you to be with us
On Tuesday, May 3rd, our Rosary
Apostolate Team hosted celebrations in the gym with the Primary students followed by the Junior/Intermediate students.
O God, Creator of the seasons
We thank You for the warm air that will
Awaken sleeping buds
The fairest of seasons,
The green season of hope,
The cool season of life.
We believe in Spring,
The season of seeds and flowers,
Of buds that burst into leaves,
Of bulbs that burst into tulips,
On Wednesday evening, we have our Welcome to Kindergarten night for our new JK ’ s for Sept. 2016 and their parents. This is a great way to expose them to our school in a funfilled activity based way. as we celebrate this season.
We believe in Spring,
Of caterpillars that burst into butterflies,
And of Jesus who burst from His grave and put death to an end.
On Friday, May 6th, our School
Council is organizing a Movie Night.
This is a Free event. Kernels popcorn is available for purchase for $1.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING TRANSPORTATION
ELIGIBILITY FOR STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN GRADES 1,
4 AND 8
Eligibility for transportation is determined based on distance criteria established in Board policy. For Dufferin-Peel Catholic
District School Board, these are:
JK – Grade 1
Grades 2 – 4
1.0 kilometer
1.6 kilometres
Grades 5 – 8
Grades 9 – 12
2.0 kilometres
4.8 kilometres
The purpose of this communication is to ensure that parents of students currently in grade 1, grade 4 and grade 8 are aware that transportation eligibility status for your child may change next year as your child moves, respectively, to grades
2, 5 and 9. As the distance criteria increases at the noted grade levels, students who are currently eligible for transportation in grades 1, 4 and 8, may no longer be eligible for transportation when they move to the next grade level.
Effective June 1, transportation eligibility information for 2016-
2017 will be available on our website. To confirm the transportation eligibility status for your child for the 2016-2017 school year, please access our website at www.stopr.ca
. Access the
“ Am I Eligible for Transportation?
” icon, select 2016-2017 and enter the required address, 2016-2017 grade level, and program information to obtain the transportation eligibility status for your child.
This notification is provided to advise parents of a potential change in transportation eligibility and, therefore, provide sufficient time for parents to make arrangements to get their child to school, if required.
Students not eligible may apply for a Courtesy Seat in September. If approved, access would begin in October.
Afirmation:
I am tolerant.
I forgive when other people make mistakes.
I appreciate differences.
I ask God to help me accept things I cannot change.
What is Acceptance and/or Tolerance?
Acceptance or Tolerance means being okay with things you wish were different and not getting upset about it. When you are accepting of others, you do not expect everyone to be just like you, but are glad and celebrate the differences that exist.
Acceptance and Tolerance bring about harmony. You show patience towards others and forgiveness when mistakes happen .
Why practice Acceptance and/or Tolerance?
People of different colour, countries, religions and ages are part of one race – the human race. We were all created by God.
Without Acceptance and Tolerance differences scare people and drive them apart. In many parts of the world prejudice causes disharmony.
In a family, these virtues need to be present so that you are able to help each other, listen to each other and enjoy the different ways of being a family.
How do you practice Acceptance and/or Tolerance?
Differences do not have to hurt. God loves diversity. Acceptance and Tolerance within a family does not mean to act or feel the same. When problems come up, you come together and discuss the issues. You need to be able to listen and accept ideas, decisions and feelings that others may have. At school, you need to be inclusive and make sure that everyone around you feels accepted and valued for who they are. You are a child of
God ’ s universe and you respect all life within it.
You are practicing ACCEPTANCE and/or TOLERANCE when you …
Treat all people as members of one human family
See the gifts in differences
Refuse to join in when others express prejudice
Solve conflict through listening, and finding solutions
You need more practice when you …
Develop an us-against- them attitude
Avoid people who are different because you are afraid
Always try to have your own way
Blame others when they have different points of view

Our Catholic School Heritage
The history of Catholic schools in Ontario since 1841 is one of dedication and perseverance in the face of financial hardship and adversity. Due to the commitment of the religious teaching
Orders, the bishops and priests, the teachers, parents, and students, our forebears have handed to us a great gift – a fully funded public Catholic school system.
The courts of Ontario and Canada have reinforced the rights of the Catholic school system with a number of judgments which affirmed the rights of separate school boards to:
(a) have their guaranteed powers in the Separate School Act of 1863 improved,
(b) receive equitable funding,
(c) prefer Catholics when hiring elementary and secondary school teachers,
(d) have their own buildings,
(e) have an exclusive Catholic school community.
The integration of religious truths and values with life is one of the most significant elements that distinguish the Catholic school from other schools. This is a matter of crucial importance today in view of contemporary trends and pressures to compartmentalize life and learning and to isolate the religious dimension of existence from other areas of human life.
The courts have recognized, over the years, that Catholic education is not a subject but rather a way to view the world that speaks to the interrelationship between faith, knowledge and action. The Catholic school is a unique setting within which this ideal can be realized in the lives of Catholic children and young people.
In our Catholic schools this reality can and is lived out.
