ENGL 8323: Master Workshop/Serpas 2:30 W There’s a crack in everything. That’s where the light gets in. Truth-telling is the poet’s sacred obligation and oblation. Books are the vessel, the form, for that offering. We will look closely at formal choices and try to discern the differences between what needs to be said, what’s absent, and what are powerful omissions meant to allow the reader’s enlightenment. Together we will try to distinguish thematic threads from failures in variation and strive to hear collections as musical compositions by . revisiting early influences • re-colmpiling a published collection toward new interpretations • reviewing drafts Final requirements are a revised collection and a press-ready book description. (One- to two-page description of the themes, style, and trajectory of the book intended for presentation to an editorial board, design team, and marketing directors.)
