COURSE OUTLINE Department: Special Education Course: Learning Strategies: Skills for Success After Secondary School Course Code: GLE 1O1 Course Description: This course introduces students to learning theories and strategies, prepares them to become effective independent learners, and helps them increase their personal management skills, both in school and other contexts. Some of the strategies taught will include reflective thinking, active listening, memorization, active reading, time and stress management. The Learning Strategies course will focus on three strands: learning, personal development, and interpersonal relationships. Students will acquire important skills in using assistive technology software such as Kurzweil, Inspiration, Write Out Loud, etc. throughout the course. The course will develop not only knowledge and skills for the learner, but also the values, attitudes, and actions that constitute a way of life rooted in the Christian call to discipleship and service.
